"India Tries To Ensure Ties Across The World, Except With...": S Jaishankar
Foreign minister S Jaishankar has said each of India's engagements has its own particular weight and focus, be it with United States, Europe, Russia or Japan, India is trying to ensure that all ties advance without seeking exclusivity. China, however, falls into a different category, Mr Jaishankar said in his address at the MIREX, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, where he was on a visit from April 27 to 29.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Mr Jaishankar said: "For the first time in 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi articulated a comprehensive view that spanned the entirety of the Indian Ocean and its Islands. These subsequently became the building blocks for the Indo-Pacific vision that emerged thereafter. To the north, India has been similarly pursuing a strategy of connecting to Central Asia more effectively and this has taken the form of structured engagements across multiple domains".
"These concentric circles of priority give you a conceptual sense of Indian diplomacy and one that we have pursued very assiduously over the last decade. But at a higher level, we are also practising the approach of engaging all significant centres of power, such multi-alignment reflects the reality of multi-polarity," he added.
Mr Jaishankar said each engagement has its own particular weight and focus.
"Whether it is the United States, Europe, Russia or Japan, we are trying to ensure that all ties, all these ties advance without seeking exclusivity," Jaishankar said without mentioning China.
But further, Mr Jaishankar added, "China falls into a somewhat different category because of the boundary dispute and the currently abnormal nature of our ties".
Making India's stand clear about China's activities at the Line of Actual Control, Mr Jaishankar said that is "an outcome of a violation of agreements regarding border management by them".
"The rise of China and India in a parallel time frame is also not without its competitive aspects," he added.
The minister said India's most pressing priorities are obviously in its neighbourhood. Given India's size and economic strength, it is very much for the collective benefit that India takes a generous and non-reciprocal approach to cooperation with smaller neighbours.
"And that's exactly what we have done in the last decade under Prime Minister Modi and this in our region has come to be known as the Neighborhood First Policy," Mr Jaishankar said.
India has seen a dramatic expansion in connectivity, contacts, in cooperation across the region.
"The exception to this of course is Pakistan in view of the cross-border terrorism that it supports. But whether it is the Covid challenge or more recent debt pressures, India has always stepped up for its neighbours," Mr Jaishankar said.
India has extended more than USD 4 billion of notable economic support to Sri Lanka.
"Beyond South Asia, India is developing the concept of extended neighbourhoods, extended neighbourhoods in all directions, with the ASEAN this has taken the form of what we call the Act East Policy, which has opened up a pathway to a deeper engagement with the Indo-Pacific that is being pursued amongst others, through a mechanism called the Quad," Mr Jaishankar said on the expansion of India's ties.
He also said towards the West, there has been a perceptible "intensification" of India's relationship with the Gulf and the Middle East. One reflection of that is a new grouping called I2U2, comprising India, Israel, UAE and the USA. These two regions on either side have emerged as major trade and investment hubs for India, he added.
About 8 million Indians live and work in the Gulf but the relationship is much more than economic, it encompasses security, technology and strong people-to-people ties. To the South, the outlook that shapes India's thinking goes by the acronym of SAGAR, which is an Indian word for oceans.

A powerful tornado flipped cars, uprooted trees and destroyed buildings as severe weather ripped through Florida, US, on Saturday. Several horrifying videos shared on social media captured the devastation caused by the strong twister.
One viral video showed cars stacked onto one another in an open parking lot and damaged buildings, including one with its facade ripped off and another with a falling gutter.

Another clip captured the moment a small vehicle was dramatically tossed into the air after the wind caught it, rolling it several times to the surprise of others on the highway. According to the New York Post, the National Weather Service confirmed the tornado touched down in the city. In a tweet, the agency said, "We are currently in the process of surveying damage along the path of the tornado and will release more information once our survey is completed."

In follow-up tweets, the weather page said a Tornado Watch would be in place for Sunday for much of Florida. "Another active weather day is expected in SFL with strong winds, hail, and even a few tornadoes possible. Main timing for activity would be sunrise-mid morning for NW areas, and late morning-early afternoon for the east coast," the weather service said.
Around 12 million people across the state have been placed under a level 2 risk for severe weather.
As per the outlet, the thunderstorms were travelling across the Gulf of Mexico from Texas, which was hit with hail and powerful winds on Thursday. Officials said that the peninsula could also be in for damaging winds, tornadoes, large hail and heavy rainfall through Saturday night.

"It All Went South": Jack Dorsey Criticises Musk Over Twitter Leadership
Almost a year after stating that Elon Musk is the "singular solution" he trusts to run Twitter, Jack Dorsey seems to have changed his stance on Mr Musk's leadership of the microblogging website. On Friday, the former CEO of Twitter issued his sharpest criticism yet of Mr Musk's leadership of Twitter, saying that the tech billionaire has not proved to be the platform's ideal steward and should have walked away from buying the site.
Mr Dorsey criticised Mr Musk in a series of reply posts on the social network Bluesky, a potential Twitter rival that Mr Dorsey helped to start. According to The Washinton Post, he responded to a question from a Bluesky user regarding whether he felt that Mr Musk proved the "best possible steward".
"No. Nor do I think he acted right after realizing his timing was bad. Nor do I think the board should have forced the sale. It all went south. But it happened and all we can do now is build something to avoid that ever happening again. So I'm happy Jay and team and nostr devs exist and building it," Mr Dorsey said.

According to Fortune, in another post, Mr Dorsey also stated that Mr Musk should have walked away by paying 1 billion dollars to the board. "If Elon or anyone wanted to buy the company, all they had to do was name a price that the board felt was better than what the company could do independently. This is true for every public company. Was I optimistic? Yes. Did I have final say? No. I think he should have walked away and paid the $1b," he stated.
Further, responding to a post in which a user said, "It's pretty sad how it all went down," Mr Dorsey replied simply: "Yes".
Notably, it was not long ago when Mr Dorsey had said that if Twitter had to be a company at all, "Elon is the singular solution I trust".
"In principle, I don't believe anyone should own or run Twitter. It wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a company. Solving for the problem of it being a company however, Elon is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness," he tweeted in 2022 before Mr Musk's Twitter acquisition had come to fruition.

"Provocative" Statue Of A Curvy Mermaid Sparks Outrage In Southern Italy
A curvy statue of a mermaid has caused a stir in the southern Italian town of Monopoli for being "too provocative". According to The Guardian, the artwork sits in a new square in the Puglia town called Piazza Rita Levi-Montalcini - named after a Nobel prize-winning Italian scientist. It was created by students from the Luigi Rosso art school in Monopoli and is located near a children's playground.
The artwork has become a target of ridicule after photos taken during its installation were shared on social media. Taking to Facebook, Bari-based actor Tiziana Schiavarelli said that a friend in Monopoli had "rightly expressed some perplexity about this 'monument'. It looks like a mermaid with two silicone breasts and, above all, a huge arse never seen before on a mermaid. At least not any I know".
Ms Schiavarelli further stressed that she did not have an issue with the art students or the local council, which had commissioned the work. "But I am very amused by this thing ...who knows if it will become a further attraction for tourists," she added.

Meanwhile, Adolf Marciano, headteacher of the Luigi Rosso art school, stated that the statue was a "tribute to the great majority of women who are curvy". As per Sky News, Mr Marciano also said that the council was shown the scale model, following which it was decided that the completed sculpture would be placed in the square.
He added that he did not want to cast judgement on the students' inspiration, but that he viewed the work "as a representation of reality, in this case of the female body".
"You see adverts on television with models who are very thin, but the mermaid is like a tribute to the great majority of women who are curvy, especially in our country. It would have been very bad if we had represented a woman who was extremely skinny," Mr Marciano said.
Notably, the statue is yet to be officially unveiled.

Couple Living Apart For 25 Years Seek Divorce. What Supreme Court Said
The Supreme Court has dissolved the marriage of a couple who have been staying separately for 25 years, saying recognising them as married would be "sanctioning cruelty". The couple only lived together for four years.
A bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and JB Pardiwala said the "complete severance of all meaningful ties and existing bitterness between the two" should be read as "cruelty" under the Hindu Marriage Act.
"We have before us a married couple who have been together as a couple for hardly four years and have been living separately for the last 25 years. They don't have children and their marital bond is completely broke, beyond repair," the Supreme Court said.
"We have no doubt that this relationship must end because its continuation would be to sanction cruelty. Prolonged separation, absence of cohabitation, complete severance of all meaningful ties and existing bitterness between the two should be read as cruelty under the Hindu Marriage Act," the Supreme Court said.
It said the ending of their marriage will affect only them since they have no children.
The man makes more than Rs 1 lakh a month and he has to pay Rs 30 lakh to the woman within four weeks, the Supreme Court said.
The couple got married in Delhi in 1994. He alleged she had an abortion the same year without telling him. He alleged she did not like their house as it was small.
Four years into the marriage, the woman left and filed a case of dowry harassment against him. The man and his brother were arrested and later released on bail. He filed for divorce after that.
The trial court allowed the divorce petition on the grounds of cruelty and long separation. But the Delhi High Court rejected the divorce request, after which the man challenged the high court's decision in the Supreme Court.

Congress Compares Arvind Kejriwal With Sheila Dikshit Over 45-Crore Spend
The Congress on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party over the alleged expenditure of Rs 45 crore on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence, saying it was "shameful" and it was like the party slapping its voters in the face.
The Opposition party also addressed queries about it reaching out to the Aam Aadmi Party on one hand and attacking it on the other, saying there was "no good cop, bad cop" routine and both approaches can co-exist.
Asked about Congress leader Ajay Maken attacking Arvind Kejriwal on one hand and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge reaching out to the party as part of Opposition unity efforts, party's media department head Pawan Khera said Mr Maken has said the right thing.
Hitting out at the AAP, Mr Khera said, "You call yourself an 'aam aadmi (common man)', it is a different matter that nobody considers you an 'aam aadmi' now. During Covid when people were suffering and there was shortage of oxygen then what were you doing --expenditure of Rs 45 crore on renovating your house, building a swimming pool, draping curtains worth lakhs and crores, fitting tiles, is this Aam Aadmi's government?"
"These are astonishing facts. Some of you would be surprised but not us as we knew what the reality is. But we are still astonished that what kind Aam Aadmi government is this that used to trumpet about its honesty and simplicity," the Congress spokesperson said.
Mr Khera said Mr Maken has pointed to the affidavit that Mr Kejriwal had given, stressing that he will not stay in official residence, not take security and not use a red beacon car.
"Are you looking at his security now, can even an MLA enter the Chief Minister's house? Close to this place was Sheila Dikshit's house when she was Chief Minister and in the mornings, the common man could go and meet her without an appointment, MLAs, workers could walk in anytime," Mr Khera said.
"You can look at the budget of renovation of houses of Sheila Dikshit and her ministers during the 15-year rule and compare it with Rs 45 crore being spent on the house of a chief minister. This is shameful. It is sad that in a way, they are slapping their voters in the face. It is nothing less than that," he said.
Asked about Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge reaching out to the Aam Aadmi Party on one hand and the party attacking it on the other, Mr Khera said, "Kharge ji called the AAP which is a very good tradition and a good way to strengthen ties as we need to have good ties among each other for the fight we are fighting. But this does not mean that is such a mistake comes to the fore, no one comments on it."
"There is no good cop bad cop, both can coexist," he added.
In the wake of reports of spending Rs 45 crore for the "beautification" of the Delhi chief minister's official residence here, Mr Maken has raised questions on Arvind Kejriwal's right to remain in his position.
Ajay Maken alleged that Mr Kejriwal spent Rs 45 crore of public funds on his luxurious bungalow, including on extravagant items like Dior polish, Vietnam marble, expensive curtains, and high-end carpets.
Mr Maken had said Mr Kejriwal promised not to use a car with a red beacon or request additional security beyond what is necessary for a common citizen and refuse a large bungalow and instead live in an ordinary house like a common man.

On Vijay Varma's New Post, A Mention Of Tamannaah By Dahaad Co-Star
Dahaad co-stars Gulshan Devaiah and Vijay Varma's Instagram exchange pertaining to the latter's rumoured relationship with actress Tamannaah Bhatia is too fun to be missed. It so happened that when Vijay Varma posted the teaser of his upcoming thriller series Dahaad, on his Instagram wall, his co-star and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela star Gulshan Devaiah left a hilarious comment, hinting at his close bond with Tamannaah Bhatia. Uploading the video, the gully boy star wrote, “Here's a sneak peek into Dahaad! Dahaad on Prime Video. The trailer is out on May 3.” Under the post, with the intention of teasing Vijay, Gulshan Devaiah wrote, "“Meri Tammannah toh tu tha… achcha dhokha diya hai tune mujhe. Thank God meri izzat nai luti… nai toh... hey Ram (You were my hope, you betrayed me. Thank God my reputation is still intact)”.

Notably, this comes a few days after the couple was spotted in the city after they stepped out on a dinner date. The stars waved at the cameras as they were pictured together in a car last night in Mumbai. Tamannaah And Vijay Varma's dating rumours began last year after they attended Diljit Dosanjh's Mumbai concert together in December and shared pictures from it.

"A Personal Loss": PM, Political Leaders Mourn Parkash Singh Badal
Former Punjab Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal patriarch Parkash Singh Badal died at a private hospital in Punjab's Mohali today. He was 95. Badal was admitted to the Fortis Hospital in Mohali over a week ago after he complained of uneasiness in breathing.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Ministers were among political leaders who mourned him.
The Prime Minister termed Badal's death "a personal loss". He also recalled his "numerous conversations" with the political stalwart.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his deepest condolences to Badal's family. He said in a tweet, "Although we differed in our ideologies, he earned immense respect among the people of Punjab for his simplicity and loyalty to his cadre, as he served multiple terms as CM."
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said the news of Badal's death was saddening. He was a tall leader of the politics of India and Punjab, Mr Gandhi said.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann condoled Badal's death. "Received the sad news of the death of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. May Waheguru give place to the departed soul in his feet and give strength to the family to bear the loss," he tweeted.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal whose AAP is the ruling party in Punjab also condoled Parkash Singh Badal's death.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla termed his death as the "end of an era" for the Indian politics.
"Parkash Singh Badal fought for the interest of people and farmers. He had an important contribution in the development of society, state and country. His role was also important in strengthening democratic values. His death is the end of an era for Indian politics," he said.
BJP national president JP Nadda expressed sorrow over the death of the "towering personality". "The news of the demise of former Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal is very sad. He was a towering personality of Indian politics whose contribution to the development of Punjab is immense and will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and supporters," he said.
Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring tweeted: "Saddened by the passing away of stalwart of politics S Parkash Singh Badal ji. Union Minister Anurag Thakur hailed former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, who died on Tuesday, as a "great visionary leader". Mr Thakur also extended his heartfelt condolences to Badal's family.
The five-time Chief Minister was in the intensive care unit of the hospital where doctors had been closely monitoring his health condition. He was also hospitalised in June last year following complaints related to gastritis and bronchial asthma.
In February 2022, he was taken to a private hospital in Mohali for a post-Covid health examination during which he underwent cardiac and pulmonary check-ups.
He had tested positive for COVID-19 in January last year and was admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana.

Rahane "Wouldn't Have Got A Place...": Ex India Star On His WTC Final Call
Ajinkya Rahane's return to the Indian Test squad was the biggest news to have come out of India's World Test Championship final squad announcement on Tuesday. India will play its second WTC final against Australia at The Oval, London, from June 7 to 11. Rahane's comeback after 15 months was on predictable lines following Shreyas Iyer's back injury that ruled him out of the grand finale. Iyer recently underwent a surgery in the UK to treat stress fractures in his lower back. Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan also reckoned that Rahane's past performances in overseas conditions will bode him well.
Speaking on Star Sports' Cricket Live, Irfan Pathan said: "Had Shreyas Iyer been fit then Rahane would not have got the place in the WTC Final side. But as far as the current form is concerned, he is looking in great touch. The format in which he is playing now is completely different but Rahane's performance on foreign pitches has always been good and this has gone in his favour."
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh, however, opined that Suryakumar Yadav should have also been kept in the squad along with Rahane because SKY can accelerate his knock.
"I would have kept both Surya and Rahane in the team. I would have played Surya instead of Axar because you are not going to play with three spinners in English conditions. In such a situation, having Surya in the team would have given an additional advantage to the batting line-up," he said.

RCB Stand-in Captain Kohli, Team Fined Heavily For Code of Conduct Breach
Virat Kohli, stand-in captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, along with other members of his team have been fined a hefty sum after his team's slow over-rate against Rajasthan Royals in an IPL 2023 on Sunday. Kohli was fined Rs 24 lakh as he was the skipper of the side in the game. "Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Mr. Virat Kohli as their Captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023," a statement from IPL read.
"As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs. 24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, was fined Rs. 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser."
Fiery half-centuries from Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, followed by a three-wicket haul from Harshal Patel guided Royal Challengers Bangalore to a victory by seven runs against Rajasthan Royals, in their IPL 2023 match on Sunday.

Zero Shadow Day In Bengaluru On Tuesday: Meaning, History And Significance
Bengaluru will witness a unique celestial event on Tuesday, April 25. For a brief period of time, vertical objects in the city will not be having shadows, due to a phenomenon are calling Zero Shadow Day. The phenomenon will take place at 12:17 pm. The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) at Bengaluru's Koramangala will organise events at its campus to mark the occasion. Several Bengaluru residents have started tweeting photos getting ready for the event where no shadow of the objects will be visible for a few moments.
What is Zero Shadow Day?
According to Astronomical Society of India (ASI), the Sun will not cast a shadow of an object at solar noon, when it is exactly at the zenith position, causing the phenomenon to occur.
The ASI further said that Zero Shadow Day occurs twice a year for locations in the tropics (between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn). For people living in these areas, the Sun's declination will be equal to their latitude both during Uttarayan and Dakshinayan.

Why does this happen?
The ASI said that the Earth's rotation axis is inclined at 23.5 degrees to the plane of its revolution around the Sun, which causes different seasons to occur. This means that the Sun, at its highest point of the day, will move from 23.5 degrees south of the celestial equator to 23.5 degrees north of the equator (Uttarayan), and back again (Dakshinayan), in a year.
Due to this rotational movement, one Zero Shadow Day falls during the Uttarayan (when the Sun moves northwards), and the other falls during Dakshinayan (when the Sun moves southwards). For people living between 23.5 degrees north and 23.5 degrees south latitudes, the Sun's declination will be equal to their latitude twice.
What is the duration of a Zero Shadow Day?
The actual phenomenon only lasts a fraction of a second, but its effect can be seen for up to a minute and a half.
Bhubaneswar in Odisha has also experienced Zero Shadow Day in 2021.

Row Over Pregnancy Tests On Brides Ahead Of Madhya Pradesh Mass Wedding
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's mass wedding scheme for women from economically weaker sections has landed in controversy after some of the brides were made to take pregnancy tests. Five of the 219 girls did not get married on Saturday after their tests came positive. The matter has generated a huge political controversy as pregnancy tests are not supposed to be conducted on the women. The Congress has questioned who ordered the tests.
The mass wedding under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana was conducted in Gadsarai area of Dindori.
One of the women whose pregnancy test had come positive, said she had started living with her fiance before the wedding. "My pregnancy test came positive. Possibly due to this my name was dropped from the final list, although officials have given me no clear cut reason," she added.
"Never in the past has such tests been conducted," said Medani Marawi, the sarpanch of Bachchargaon village. "It is an insult to the girls, who now stand maligned before their families," he added.
The Chief Medical and Health Officer of Dindori, Dr Ramesh Marawi, said normally, tests are conducted for age verification, sickle cell anaemia and to ascertain physical fitness.
"Pregnancy tests were conducted at the behest of higher authorities on some girls whose cases were suspected," he said. "We only conduct tests and report the findings. The decision on excluding the girls from the mass marriage scheme is taken by the Social Justice Department based on health department reports," he added.
The Congress has alleged that the local administration and state government had insulted the women by conducting pregnancy tests.
A rough translation of a Hindi tweet by former Chief Minister Kamal Nath read: "I want to know from the Chief Minister whether this news is true? If this news is true, then on whose orders was this gross insult done to the daughters of Madhya Pradesh? Do the daughters of the poor and tribal communities have no dignity in the eyes of the Chief Minister? In the Shivraj government, Madhya Pradesh is already on top in the country in terms of misbehavior with women. I demand from the Chief Minister that a fair and high-level inquiry be conducted into the entire matter and the guilty should be punished severely. This is not only a matter of pregnancy test, but also of a malicious attitude towards the entire female race."
The Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana was launched in April 2006. Under the scheme, the state government provides Rs 56,000 as financial assistance for marriage of women from economically weaker sections.

A late charge led by a cameo from Dhruv Jurel was not enough for Rajasthan Royals as a century stand between captain Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell set up a thrilling seven-run win for Royal Challengers Bangalore in their Indian Premier League match here on Sunday.
Invited to bat, Maxwell (77 off 44 balls) and du Plessis (62 off 39 balls) shared 127 runs for the third wicket from only 66 deliveries to power RCB to 189 for 9 in 20 overs.
Devdutt Padikkal (52 off 34 balls) struck his maiden fifty of the season and Yashasvi Jaiswal made 47 for a 98-run partnership for the second wicket but the Royals were lagging behind in the run chase before gaining momentum in the last five overs.
Jurel played a small cameo of 34 not out off just 16 balls (2x4; 2x6) as the Royals scored 61 runs off the last five overs, losing three wickets in the process. But they fell short by seven runs in the end, reaching to 182 for 6 in 20 overs.
The Royals needed 20 runs off the final over bowled by Harshal Patel but could score only 12.
The Royals thus suffered their third defeat in seven matches but remained at the top of the points table due to a superior net run rate (0.844).
Harshal Patel (4-0-32-3) was the pick of the RCB bowlers while David Willey (4-0-26-1) and Mohammed Siraj (4-0-39-1) also played their parts.

Rahul Gandhi "Represents The Laziest Type Of Politics": Union Minister
Rahul Gandhi represents the "laziest type of politics" of making bizarre allegations and promises without any intention to improve people's lives, Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Saturday, days after the Congress leader created a ripple by pitching for caste census and pledged a slew of sops in Karnataka.
He also expressed confidence that the rebellion of some key BJP leaders in Karnataka will not come in the way of the incumbent party winning its first-ever majority in the coming assembly polls.
He said state BJP leaders have accepted the generational change after the "brave" decision of fielding 74 first-time candidates in the May 10 elections.
The BJP has come to be identified with the state's future, while the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) symbolise the "lazy, entitled and exploitative" politics of the past, Mr Chandrasekhar, a Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka, told PTI in an interview.
With Rahul Gandhi making a slew of promises, including allowances for the unemployed and women, and backing demand for caste census, a bid to woo politically important Other Backward Classes (OBC), at a poll rally in Karnataka, Mr Chandrasekhar took a swipe at him questioning the party's track record when it was in power for decades.
Mr Gandhi wants people to forget that his party has ruled for decades, he said.
"It is the laziest type of politics that Rahul Gandhi represents," the BJP leader said, adding his politics is all about saying something bizarre, and making a few allegations and promises and then going away without having any intention to work hard to improve the lives of people.
"They did nothing for the OBC is when they were in government. Look at all of the work done for the community under the prime minister and the double-engine government in Karnataka. To make promises and disappear is the Congress style," the minister said.
"They have gone and made promises in Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh that they never fulfilled," he claimed.
The BJP leader said that the defection of Lingayat leaders like former chief minister Jagadish Shettar and former deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi will fail to dent the community's support to the party, as he noted the BJP's historical "commitment, recognition and respect" to the leaders from the group.
"One or two leaders, who wanted to put their personal ambition ahead of everybody else and everything else, have gone to the Congress or to the JD(S). If you look at Shettar or Savadi, both leaders enjoyed a long stint with the BJP and always subscribed to its ideology.
"We will find that on May 13 they will not only lose (the election), but whatever respect they have earned over the last several decades as BJP members, they will have lost that as well," he said.
Asked about the Congress accusing the BJP of insulting Lingayat leaders, he said the opposition party has a history of creating divisions in the state's largest community, believed to be around 17 per cent of the total population.
In the 2018 polls, the then chief minister Siddaramaiah created "propaganda" about Lingayats not being Hindus, he said.
"This is the standing strategy of the Congress to try and divide those people who support our good governance. They've done this before as well. And like they have failed in 2018. They will fail this time as well," he said.
There's support for the BJP among various communities, be it Lingayats, Vokkaligas or Dalits, because of the "work of its government in the state and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government at the Centre, and this is based on their deep belief in our governance", he said.
Some tweets by Siddaramaiah or some other Congress leader will not affect one or another community's support for the BJP, he said.
"It is not affected if you take away one or two leaders through inducement or whatever. The basic support of the community doesn't change because of that," he said.
The Congress is fighting an existential crisis and is desperate as it knows that a loss in Karnataka will mean that the party will vanish from the state as it has from the rest of south India except Kerala where it has already lost back-to-back elections, he said.
The BJP, the Union minister said, is very clearly positioned to campaign on a pro-incumbency plank about the last three and a half years of its efforts during the "most difficult" time in Karnataka history as it was hit by floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the hung verdict delivered by the 2018 polls, the Congress and the JD(S) joined hands to come to power before the BJP, the single largest party, toppled the government and took the reins of power in 2029 after 17 alliance MLAs quit the assembly and joined the saffron party.
Now the state's economy is not only back on track but it is one of the fastest growing and performing economies, with the government under Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai delivering on Modi's plank of "maximum governance", he said, citing a slew of schemes for the welfare of various segments of society.
The BJP leadership's decision to field 74 new faces among the total 224 candidates is important and brave as it believes that it is the party for the future of Karnataka, he said.

Foreign Funds Used In Anti-Coal Cases: CBI Charges Environmental Lawyer
A case has been filed against environmental lawyer Ritwick Dutta and his non-profit by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleged violation of foreign funding rules.
Mr Dutta, who has co-authored a book on forest conservation with Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, runs the non-profit Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE).
The CBI alleged Mr Dutta got Rs 41 Lakh in foreign contributions in fiscal 2014 from US-based 'Earth Justice', a non-profit that funds environment lawyers in several nations to litigate against coal projects.
Mr Dutta then created LIFE Proprietorship, which subsequently received Rs 22 crore from Earth Justice during 2016 to 2021 as "professional receipt", the CBI said.
The CBI alleged Earth Justice and another US-based non-profit, Sandler Foundation, have been planning to fund legal activism and take down India's existing and proposed coal projects, which is a violation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
The investigators said these funds were meant to harm India's national and economic security.
They said the European Climate Foundation is also routing $120,000 via Earth Justice to Mr Dutta's LIFE for litigation, and so the cases that LIFE is fighting in India are actually funded by the foreign non-profits, which are not the litigants.

MS Dhoni Shatters Quinton de Kock's T20 Record To Claim Stunning Feat
One of the finest cricketers to ever play the Gentleman's Game, MS Dhoni continues to break records even at the age of 41. Up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Friday, Dhoni smashed T20 cricket 'world record' as he went on to become the wicket-keeper with the most number of catches in the shortest format of the game. It was Quinton de Kock who earlier held the record but he was surpassed by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper in the list.
Dhoni and De Kock were tied at the No. 1 spot before the match started, with both taking a total of 207 catches in T20 cricket. After Dhoni grabbed the catch of Aiden Markram on the bowling of Maheesh Theekshana in the match, he went past De Kock to make the numero uno spot solely his own.
Dhoni isn't the only Indian in the top 5. Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik is only three catches behind Dhoni in the list.

In the match against the Sunrisers, Dhoni also produced a stumping effort and a run-out. In total, the 41-year-old veteran of the game was directly involved in three different dismissals in the game.
The Super Kings produced a brilliant effort with the ball, limiting the SunRisers to just 134/7 in 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the superstar with the ball for the 4-time champions, bagging three wickets for 22 runs in the match.
