"Either You Will Survive Or I Will": Uddhav Thackeray To Devendra Fadnavis

Virtually kickstarting the campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) President Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday challenged Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying "Either you will survive or I”, triggering a protest from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking at a pre-election preparatory meeting of party workers and leaders from Mumbai, Mr Thackeray said, “We endured everything but stood firm and taught the BJP a lesson in the Lok Sabha elections."

“Our party was broken, we were targeted by central probe agencies, money power was used against us, and they even wanted to throw us in jail… But we survived everything and emerged victorious,” he said amid thunderous applause.

The former chief minister recalled how ex-Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had informed him that Mr Fadnavis was 'conspiring' to dump both Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray in jail.

Mr Thackeray warned Mr Fadnavis, saying, “If you act straight we shall be straight, but if you play crooked, we shall do likewise."

"Now either you will stay or I will," he added.

He also reminded the gathering how the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) unitedly won 4 out of 6 LS seats in Mumbai, adding that the opposition's performance made the top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, uncomfortable.

“Listening to PM Modi's speeches has become painful now…" Mr Thackeray said.

On BJP's charges of getting only minority votes in the Lok Sabha polls, Mr Thackeray narrated an incident where a large number of Muslims were present and he asked them if they had reservations about him being a Hindu or his idea of Hindutva, and they unanimously said ‘no'.

Referring to the BJP as a "party of crooks", Mr Thackeray claimed that in the recent past, he met many national Opposition leaders like Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav, who paid compliments to him by saying: “Uddhavji, you have shown a direction to the country”.

“I was never elected as a municipal corporator, I directly became the chief minister… I did everything possible. This (Assembly elections) is the last challenge for you. They broke the party. Sena is not a rusty sword, but a sharp weapon, and we must fight to save Mumbai and the state. They must be given a befitting reply,” Mr Thackeray said.

Claiming that those who split and left the party now want to return to the party fold, Mr Thackeray reiterated that those who want to leave can go, but “we will continue the political fight with our Shiv Sainiks as our name has put fear in them”.

Mr Thackeray also said that the dispute over the Shiv Sena name and poll symbol -- which were allotted to the group led by chief minister Eknath Shinde -- has created confusion among the people, “but the Supreme Court verdict will come in our favour”.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders, including state President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Ashish Shelar, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Pravin Darekar, Ashish Shelar, and others, lashed out at Mr Thackeray, accusing him of “sowing communal divisions among the people”, and saying “you will have to take 100 births before finishing Mr Fadnavis' politics”.

Mr Bawankule said Mr Thackeray has forgotten how he got his MPs elected in Narendra Modi's name, but when he was the chief minister, he backstabbed the BJP and even hatched a conspiracy to put Mr Fadnavis in jail, “but with people's blessings, he could not succeed”.

The state BJP chief alleged Pakistani flags were seen in Mr Thackeray's meetings in Nashik and Mumbai, but now he's talking about finishing Mr Fadnavis.

He also accused Mr Thackeray of provoking such elements and polarising different castes and religions that have lived harmoniously here.

Mr Mungantiwar said the late Balasaheb Thackeray would never have gone with the Congress, but Uddhav Thackeray did and abandoned Hindutva for power.

Slamming Mr Thackeray for making 'personal threats' against the deputy chief minister, Mr Darekar said his comments were manifestations of failure and helplessness, but “in the Assembly elections, PM Modi is not required as Shinde-Fadnavis are sufficient for you”.

Mr Shelar said, “We accept your challenge. The BJP will ensure that the masses show Shiv Sena (UBT) its place in the upcoming elections."

Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders like Chandrakant Khaire, Kishori Pednekar, Kishore Tiwari, and others lauded Mr Thackeray for his bold and no-holds-barred speech, as they took potshots at the BJP saying “don't forget, he is the scion of Balasaheb Thackeray”.

Israel Carries Out "Targeted" Strike In Lebanese Capital As Tensions Rise

The Israeli military said it carried out a targeted strike in Beirut on Tuesday against the Hezbollah commander it said was responsible for a strike in the Golan Heights that killed 12 children and teenagers at the weekend.

A loud blast was heard and a plume of smoke could be seen rising above the southern suburbs - a stronghold of Lebanese armed group Hezbollah - at around 7:40 p.m. (1640 GMT), a Reuters witness said.

"The IDF carried out a targeted strike in Beirut, on the commander responsible for the murder of the children in Majdal Shams and the killing of numerous additional Israeli civilians," the Israeli Defence Forces said in a statement.

It said it had issued no new instructions for civil defence in Israel following the strike.

A senior Lebanese security source said the commander's fate remained unclear.

Lebanon's state-run national news agency said an Israeli strike had targeted the area around Hezbollah's Shura Council in the Haret Hreik neighbourhood of the capital.

Beirut has been on edge for days ahead of an anticipated Israeli attack in retaliation for a strike on the Druze village of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights that killed a dozen youngsters.

Israel and the United States have blamed Hezbollah for the attack. Hezbollah has denied responsibility.

"Miracle": Lost Dog Travels From Maharashtra To Karnataka To Return Home

Yamagarni village in Nipani taluk of Belagavi district recently witnessed a strange sight. A jubilant crowd paraded a black indie dog covered in garlands and held a feast in its honour. For the villagers, the return of the dog, which had been lost, is a miracle.

Fondly called Maharaj, the animal which is well past its prime, was lost in the crowd in the pilgrimage town of Pandharpur in South Maharashtra, but made its way back to the village in Belagavi in North Karnataka, travelling nearly 250km on its own.

In the last week of June, Maharaj had followed its owner Kamalesh Kumbhar when he went on his annual 'Wari padayatra' trip to Pandharpur.

Kumbhar, a 'Warkari', said he visits Pandharpur every year on Ashadha Ekadashi and Kartiki Ekadashi.

This time, the dog too accompanied him, he said.

"Maharaj has always liked listening to bhajans. Once, he had accompanied me on another padayatra trip to Jyotiba temple near Mahabaleshwar," Kumbhar told PTI.

For nearly 250 km, the dog followed the master, who walked with a group of his friends, chanting bhajans.

After the darshan at Vithoba temple, Kumbhar said he noticed that the dog was missing. When he went looking for him, he said people over there told him that the dog had left with another group.

"I still searched for him everywhere and I could not find him. So, I thought maybe the people were right, that he left with someone else. I returned to my home town on July 14," Kumbhar said.

The very next day though, Kumbhar said, to his surprise "Maharaj was standing there in front of my house, wagging his tail as if nothing had happened. He looked well fed and perfectly fine."

Overcome with happiness, Kumbhar said, he and the villagers celebrated Maharaj's return with a feast. "It is such a miracle that the dog could find its way, although it was 250km or so away from home. We think it was Lord Panduranga who guided him."

PM, Biren Singh's First Face-To-Face On Manipur Violence: Sources

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his ongoing visit to Delhi. Mr Singh and PM Modi had discussed the situation in the state that was hit massive ethnic violence last year, sources told NDTV amid much speculation over the meeting.

The Chief Minister is in Delhi for a special conclave of Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states. But the 25-minute closed door session was specially scheduled to ensure that the state sticks to the Centre's peace plan for the state, sources said.

Union ministers Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh were also present for the meeting, but no officials from the Centre or the state attended it, sources said, underscoring its exclusivity.

The meeting comes amid massive Opposition pressure on the BJP over the Prime Minister's alleged silence on Manipur. Slogans of Manipur had rent Lok Sabha as the Opposition interrupted PM Modi's speech on the Motion of Thanks following President Droupadi Murmu's joint address for over two hours.

The BJP, though, has been especially focussed on Manipur after the two Lok Sabha seats in the northeastern state went to the Congress in the recent general election.

The meeting also comes on a day that Manipur governor Anusiya Uikey was removed and new Assam governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya was given additional charge of Manipur.

Over the last year, the clashes between the valley-dominant Meitei community and nearly two dozen tribes known as Kukis -- a term given by the British in colonial times -- who are dominant in some hill areas of Manipur, has killed over 220 people and internally displaced nearly 50,000.

The general category Meiteis want to be included under the Scheduled Tribes category, while the nearly two dozen tribes that share ethnic ties with people in neighbouring Myanmar's Chin State and Mizoram, want a separate administrative carved out of Manipur, citing discrimination and unequal share of resources and power with the Meiteis.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval meanwhile has gone to Myanmar, where ethnic pro-democracy rebels are fighting the junta. 40,000 Myanmar refugees living in Mizoram, and a few thousands in Manipur.

'What Kind Of Democracy?' Court Raps Cops For Seeking Action On Professor

The Bombay High Court came down heavily on Satara police for seeking action against a professor who referred to late activist Govind Pansare's book 'Shivaji Kon Hota' while pacifying agitated students during an event.

The court questioned the police as to what kind of democracy this was and asked whether an offence was made out against the professor.

The division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Prithviraj K Chavan was hearing a plea by Dr Mrunalini Aher who challenged a letter sent by the sub-inspector of a police station in Satara district in August 2023.

The plea was disposed of on Friday after police told the court the letter will be unconditionally withdrawn.

The professor claimed the letter "brazenly and in complete excess of its powers" asked the principal of Yashwantrao Chavan College in Pachwad to conduct a probe against Ms Aher and submit a report to the police station.

The plea, filed through her advocate, claimed that on August Kranti Din (August 9) last year a professor delivered a lecture on venerable personalities.

During the speech a segment of students got agitated as they felt that some disrespectful words were used about the said personalities.

Ms Aher, who was present during the lecture, claimed she attempted to pacify the situation and referred to Pansare's book to do so, the plea said.

Ms Aher claimed some "over-enthusiastic and unscrupulous" members of the audience then sought to attack her alleging she was supporting the fellow professor instead of condemning his behaviour.

The sub-inspector in question, who was also present on the spot, asked the principal to conduct a departmental enquiry against the professor.

Initiation of such an enquiry on the request by a police officer who was not an appointing authority was illegal, she said in her plea.

The high court bench asked the police sub-inspector if he had read the book and questioned if an offence was made out despite the petitioner's right to freedom of speech.

The police officer could not have exceeded his powers and asked or issued directions to the college principal to take action, the high court bench said.

The court then warned the state of passing strictures against the officer.

However, the plea was disposed of after the prosecution told the court the communication will be unconditionally withdrawn.

Pansare was shot at on February 16, 2015, in Maharashtra's Kolhapur and died of his injuries on February 20.

SL Spinner Bowls With Both Hands Against India - Here's What Rules Say

Sri Lanka spinner Kamindu Mendis left experts and fans alike after he bowled with both his hands during the first T20I encounter against India on Saturday. The ambidextrous cricketer bowled with his left arm against Suryakumar Yadav but when facing Rishabh Pant, he switched hands and bowled with his right arm. While people were quite impressed by the cricketer's talent, some were left wondering where the rule book stands when it comes to a bowler using both his hands to bowl during the same over. Here's a look at what the rules say -

21.1.1 The umpire shall ascertain whether the bowler intends to bowl right handed or left handed, over or round the wicket, and shall so inform the striker.

It is unfair if the bowler fails to notify the umpire of a change in his/her mode of delivery.  In this case the umpire shall call and signal No ball.

Coming to the match, Suryakumar Yadav was swift and brutal in equal measure on his first day in office as the Indian top-order plundered Sri Lankan bowling to post a commanding 213 for 7.

In his first match as permanent skipper of India's T20 team, Surya made a firm statement with a sparkling 58 off 26 balls, maintaining his aggressive approach that made him world's premier batter.

While Surya was at his dominant best while hitting eight fours and two sixes en route his 20th half-century, the foundation for a big score was laid by young stars Yashasvi Jaiswal (41 off 20 balls) and Shubman Gill (34 off 15 balls) in a 74-run opening stand in the powerplay.

Rishabh Pant (49 off 33 balls) struggled initially but did well to end just one short of half-century with some audacious shots both in-front and behind the square.

Samples Sent To Lab: Karnataka On Row Over 'Dog Meat' Meant For Restaurants

Responding to the row over the alleged supply of dog meat to Bengaluru hotels, the Karnataka government stated on Saturday that the meat seized from the railway station on Friday night had been sent to a food laboratory for analysis and action would be taken based on the results.

The Karnataka Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSA) Commissionerate on Saturday made the statement, according to an official release by the Karnataka Health department.

Some groups had alleged on Friday evening that dog meat was being supplied to Bengaluru hotels from Rajasthan, and protested.

The commissionerate stated that, on Friday evening, it was reported that mutton and other meat was being supplied to Bengaluru via train.

A police team and officials from the Karnataka FSSA went to the railway station and conducted an inspection.

During the inspection, it was found that parcels that had arrived by train from Rajasthan were being loaded into a vehicle on the outer premises of the station.

There were 90 parcels, and upon inspection, animal meat was found in them. Samples were collected and sent to the food laboratory for analysis.

“Detailed information about the FSSAI licences of the senders and recipients of the parcels is being collected. If any discrepancies are found, further legal action will be initiated as per regulations,” the statement said.

Hindutva activist Puneet Kerehalli and others protested near Majestic Railway Station in Bengaluru on Friday, alleging that dog meat, along with mutton, was being brought from Rajasthan to Bengaluru for sale.

A case was filed against them for obstructing police officers on duty. Later, around Friday midnight, the jurisdictional Cottonpet Police arrested them.

A case has been filed against Puneet Kerehalli under Section 132 of the BNS Act (obstruction of government officials' duties) and Section 351 (2) for disturbing the peace.

Sources state that the meat was meant to be supplied to fine-dining restaurants in Bengaluru.

Jaggery Tea Vs. Sugar Tea: Which One Is Healthier? Expert Weighs In

In today's era of health consciousness, we seek all kinds of ways to consume healthy food. But many of us, including myself, can't imagine starting our day without a piping hot cup of chai. This is why several methods have emerged to make our beloved tea healthier, one of the most popular being jaggery tea. Jaggery or gur is an unrefined sugar made from sugarcane and is often touted as a healthier alternative to sugar tea. But is it actually healthy? If you have the same question in mind, then you have landed on the right page! Let's find out if jaggery tea deserves the recognition it usually gets for being healthy.

Also Read: Kitchen Tips: How To Purchase Jaggery - Expert Tips To Avoid Adulterated Gud

Jaggery, an unrefined sugar made from sugarcane or palm sap, is often promoted as a healthier alternative to regular sugar due to its higher nutrient content and lower glycemic index. But is jaggery tea genuinely healthier than sugar tea? To provide clarity, we've consulted with experts to weigh in on the nutritional differences, health benefits, and potential drawbacks of both jaggery tea and sugar tea. Understanding these distinctions can help you make an informed choice for your daily tea ritual. Let's delve into the details and discover which one truly stands out as the healthier option.

Jaggery is said to be a healthier alternative to white sugar, but it is still high in calories. However, this drink has a range of other benefits.

Jaggery vs Sugar Tea: Let's discover which one truly stands out as the healthier option. Photo Credit: iStock

Is Jaggery Tea Healthier Than Sugar Tea?

According to nutritionist and dietician Shweta J Panchal, it is a common belief that jaggery tea, which contains small amounts of iron, calcium, and other minerals, is healthier. However, you need to keep two things in mind:

1. Tea contains compounds that reduce or nullify the absorption of minerals and nutrients. So, whether or not you add jaggery to your tea, your body will not benefit from it.

2. It does not matter where your body gets its glucose supply from, whether it's jaggery or sugar. This is because your body's response to glucose - which is an insulin spike - remains the same. So, you can choose jaggery instead of sugar, but you cannot avoid the insulin spike because the sugar levels in your blood will still increase.

Additionally, the expert points out that any kind of sweetener - be it jaggery or honey - is not a replacement for sugar. No amount of sweetener can increase the nutritive value of your tea.

Watch the full video below:

When Should You Avoid Consuming Tea?

Now that you know tea has compounds that can affect the absorption of nutrients, let's find out when you should avoid it. According to Ayurvedic expert Dr. Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya, you should avoid drinking tea at the following times:

1. First Thing In The Morning:

The Ayurvedic expert advises against consuming tea first thing in the morning. This is because consuming caffeine on an empty stomach can disrupt cortisol production, leading to anxiety and imbalance before the day starts.

2. With Meals:

Tea is acidic, meaning it can hinder digestion. If you are having protein in your meals, combining it with tea can make it harder to digest and interfere with iron absorption. This is why you should avoid drinking tea one hour before and after meals.

3. After 4:00 PM:

The expert advises avoiding caffeine after 4:00 p.m. This is because caffeine can impact your sleep quality and health. Avoiding caffeine at least 10 hours before bedtime can enhance your sleep and promote better digestion.

Rahul Gandhi Makes Brief Stop At Cobbler Shop On Way Back To Lucknow

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday stopped briefly at a cobbler's shop on his way back to Lucknow from Sultanpur where he had gone to appear before a court in a defamation case.

The cobbler in Vidhayak Nagar at the outskirts of Sultanpur was pleasantly surprised over the unexpected visit of the Congress leader.

Mr Gandhi stopped at the shop of cobbler Ram Chet and spoke to him about his family and his problems.

Expressing happiness, Chet said Mr Gandhi visited his shop without any prior information and stopped for nearly half-an-hour during which he enquired about his family and the problems faced by him.

Chet said he offered cold drinks to Mr Gandhi. The two drank the cold drink and talked.

The cobbler said he told the leader about his meagre income and sought assistance to expand the work.

"Mr Gandhi said he will see what he can do for me," he claimed.

He said he had seen Mr Gandhi on TV and was surprised to find him at his shop.

The Congress leader had come to Sultanpur to appear before an MP-MLA court in a defamation case against him.

Local BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed the complaint on August 4, 2018 against Gandhi for his alleged objectionable comments against Amit Shah at a press conference in Bengaluru in May of that year during the Karnataka elections.

When 80% Andhra MLAs Stood Up In Response To This Question By CB Naidu

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly witnessed some lighter moments on Thursday as almost 80 per cent of the MLAs responded when Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wanted all those who were booked during the previous government of YSR Congress Party to stand up.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Human Resources Development Minister Nara Lokesh and several other ministers were among those who stood up.

One of the women MLAs heard saying she had seven cases booked against her.

"Cases were booked against all those who were fighting politically. He (former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy) did not want to see any of them out (of jail) but people sent all of them directly to the Assembly," Naidu said in the Assembly while presenting a White Paper on the law and order situation during the YSRCP rule.

Mr Naidu vowed to place Andhra Pradesh in the first position in the country in terms of the best law and order situation. He said all the politically motivated cases would be reviewed. The Chief Minister said the government was also ready to punish all those officials who registered illegal cases.

He said except the Babli case, he never had any other case against him but after the YSRCP came to power, 17 cases were booked against him while seven cases were booked against Pawan Kalyan.

Mr Naidu mentioned that about 60 cases were booked against TDP leader J. C. Prabhakar Reddy. Cases under the SC/ST Atrocities Act were registered against present Home Minister Anitha Vangalapudi and Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu. Then MP Raghurama Krishna Raju was tortured in lock-up, he said and alleged that then Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy drew sadistic pleasure by watching the video of the torture.

He alleged that under the YSRCP rule, people suffered physical and mental trauma. "YSRCP leaders with the police attacked the very roots of democracy," he said and recalled that the Legislative Council Chairman was not allowed to function when a bill for creating three state capitals was tabled.

Mr Naidu agreed to Pawan Kalyan's suggestion that another session be called for a thorough discussion on law and order. He also advised NDA members not to land the government in trouble and made it clear that the government would punish anyone disturbing peace and law and order.

The Chief Minister said law and order can be maintained when officials perform their duties in accordance with the law. He also assured the house that a separate wing would be created in the police department to monitor social media. He warned that those posting content derogatory to women would not be spared.

Hardik's Comments On Natasa's Latest Insta Post Has Internet On Overdrive

Hardik Pandya, Indian cricket team star allrounder, and Natasa Stankovic recently announced in a joint statement that they were parting ways.  For the last few months there were rumours that the celebrity couple were headed for separation, and with the announcement officially confirmed the development. Hardik Pandya recently played a crucial role in India winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. On the other hand, while Natasa, who hails from Serbia, has worked in movies. They got engaged in January, 2020 and have a four-year son Agastya.

Recently, Natasa flew to Serbia with the couple's son Agastya. The actor-cum-model posted images of her Serbian sojourn on Wednesday. Pandya reacted on the post with a series of emojis. That gesture has been well appreciated by social media users. "Respect for Hardik Pandya," wrote one user. Natasa has been the target of online trolling since she announced her separation with Pandya.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

In a joint Instagram post on July 19, Hardik Pandya and Natasa Stankovic wrote: "After 4 years of being together, Natasa and I have decided to mutually part ways. We tried our best together and gave it our all, and we believe that this is in the best interest for the both of us. This was a tough decision for us to make, given  the joy, mutual respect and companionship we enjoyed together and as we grew a family.

"We are blessed with Agastya, who will continue to be at the centre of both our lives and we will co-parent to ensure that we give him everything that we can for his happiness. We sincerely request your support and understanding to give us the privacy during this difficult and sensitive time. Hardik/Natasa."

The first rumours that the two were dating came around 2018 and then in an instagram post in 2019, Natasa referred Pandya as 'best friend'. The two got engaged on January 1, 2020 and welcomed son Agastya same year in July. Pandya and Natasa renewed their vows in Udaipur on February 14, 2023.

The couple was often spotted together at social gatherings and they were loved by the cameras. Like Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma, the duo was yet another instance of an Indian cricketer marrying an actor. But from May, 2024, rumours started doing the rounds that all was not well in the marriage.

Earlier, the duo was pro-active in posting their images together. Suddenly, the last few months saw that getting stopped completely. While Natasa earlier went to IPL matches where Pandya played, in IPL 2024 no such thing was visible. It started rumours that the two were heading for separation. With Thursday's development, the rumours have been confirmed.

Pakistan Woman Asked To Spend "Quality Time With Boss" For New Job Role

A woman in Pakistan experienced a terrifying ordeal when looking for a job with the Giga Group in Islamabad. The woman was applying for a job as a fresher for a trainee and office assistant position via the Indeed app. Adina Hira said that she received "special" requests from the hiring manager. She took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared screenshots of her conversation with the person who contacted her regarding the job.

"Being a girl in Pakistan is too difficult! I applied for a job on the Indeed website, which was for fresh graduates, and this is the message I received. It's unbelievable!! Who knows how many innocent girls they must have taken advantage of. When a fresh graduate looks for a job," she wrote on X. The woman added, "They either encounter such disgusting people or those with wealthy parents who get in through references. This country is hell!"

As per the screenshots, an executive named Sadam Bukhari contacted Ms Hira on Indeed and informed her about the job description. Along with outlining the duties and requirements, he also told her about the pay, allowances and other benefits. Another snapshot of a WhatsApp conversation showed a person describing her job duties and telling Ms Hira that she would have to "cooperate" with her manager. When Ms Hira inquired about cooperation, the individual responded, "Have to spend some quality time with your boss." Ms Hira, enraged by the response, abused the guy and blocked him on the application.

Meanwhile, Giga Group of Companies took to LinkedIn to issue a clarification about the same. They said that it was a fake advertisement and the person was not associated with Giga Group. "A post is being circulated on different social media platforms regarding a fake advertisement where a person has shared a fake job post on an irrelevant job website representing himself as a Giga Group representative and trying to harass a girl. The person is not associated with Giga Group and we have already initiated legal action through FIA against him. The only authentic platforms for job opportunities in Giga Group are our official website and social media platforms," they wrote on the platform.

Since being shared, Ms Hira's post has amassed a lot of reactions online.

A person said, "Good to see you are speaking about this.... More Power to you."

Another wrote, "This is so sad and unfortunate. Can't you file a complaint against them in Women rights commission in your country?"

"This is shocking and straight up harassment! Would definitely be reporting the hiring manager and anyone else involved," a third person wrote.

Cops Involved In Anandpal Encounter Face Probe, Court Rejects CBI Report

The Rajasthan Police's role in the encounter of gangster Anandpal will be investigated, a special court in Jodhpur ruled today, rejecting the CBI's closure report of 2020. The four police officers who took part in the encounter will be investigated for murder, the court said.

On July 24, 2017, Anandpal was killed in a village in Churu, in what the police claimed was an encounter.

The gangster, who was hiding in a second floor room of a house, had fired on the police team with automatic weapons. He died in retaliatory firing, the police has contended.

As the matter became controversial, then Vasundhara Raje government asked the CBI to investigate. The CBI upheld the police report. But Anand Pal's family, led by his wife Raj Kanwar, filed a petition in the Jodhpur court against the agency's closure report.

After seven years, the court has rejected the closure report in view of the evidence presented by the family.

Medical evidence suggested that Anandpal's body  bore injures indicating beating. The bullet wounds, 11 of them, indicated that he was shot from close range.

The police had suggested they never went to the terrace where Anandpal was hiding.

But Anandpal's lawyer presented his brother Rupinder as a key witness.

Rupinder had led the police team to his brother's hideout to get him arrested. He told the court that he went to the terrace with the police and asked Anandpal to surrender. At the time, his brother was unharmed, but later he was beaten and shot, Rupinder has claimed.

"Extra Special": Kargil War Hero On Son Commanding His Former Division

A quarter of a century after India secured a victory for the ages in the Kargil War, one of the most challenging high-altitude battles ever fought, the division which led the charge has another major reason to celebrate. Major General Sachin Malik is now commanding the 8 Mountain Division, which had led the charge in the Kargil War under the overall leadership of his father, General (Retired) VP Malik, who was the Army chief at the time.

General VP Malik had also once commanded the 8 Mountain Division and the father and son are now in Dras to mark the 25th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas on Friday. That is where NDTV caught up with them for an exclusive conversation.

"This is the 25th anniversary, which is a special occasion. I always come here to pay homage to the officers and men who were killed in action during the war and also to remember all the good work that our Army did. This year, it has also become special because Sachin is here and he is commanding the same division that I did, at the same place where we fought the war," General VP Malik said.

On the challenges in commanding the 8 Mountain Division, which works in difficult conditions right on the line of control, Major General Sachin Malik said he looks at it as a privilege as well as a huge responsibility.

"It is a huge privilege to command the 8 Mountain Division, which is known as the 'Forever in Operations' division - it has always been in operation right from raising (in 1963). While we are commemorating the Rajat Jayanti of the Kargil War, we have to remember that the bulk of my division remains committed and deployed on the line of control to ensure nothing of the sort ever happens again," Major General Malik asserted.

"The first thing that comes to mind is the huge responsibility. These peaks... a lot of blood has been shed on them and there is no way we will ever allow anybody to do that ever again. So we have to always remain absolutely alert, we have to remain ready for anything and we have to ensure nothing of that nature happens ever again," he added.

Major General Sachin Malik took over as the 42nd General Officer Commanding of the Mountain Division in February.

The Kargil War was fought between May and July 1999 when intruders from Pakistan occupied positions on the Indian side of the LoC. The Indian Army and Air Force valiantly fought them off and recaptured many strategic posts, forcing a withdrawal from the remaining ones.

Unhappy With Budget 2024, Congress Chief Ministers To Skip NITI Aayog Meet

Calling the Union Budget 2024-25 "discriminatory" and "dangerous", the Congress on Tuesday evening announced that the party's Chief Ministers -- Siddaramaiah (Karnataka), Revanth Reddy (Telangana), and Sukhvinder Sukhu (Himachal Pradesh) -- will not attend the Niti Aayog Governing Council meeting scheduled in the national capital on July 27.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin too has said that he would boycott the NITI Aayog meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 27 as a mark of protest.

"The Union Budget presented today was extremely discriminatory and dangerous, which completely goes against the principles of federalism and fairness that the Union government must follow. In protest, INC CMs will be boycotting the NITI Aayog meeting scheduled for 27th July," Congress General Secretary (Organisation), KC Venugopal said in a post on X.

"This government's attitude is completely antithetical to Constitutional principles. We will not participate in an event that is solely designed to hide the true, discriminatory colours of this regime," he added.

Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman announced a slew of measures during her 80-minute Budget speech, including a hike in standard deduction in the new tax regime from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000, revisions to tax slabs in the new regime, cut in Customs duty on gold and silver, three schemes under employment-linked incentives, and Rs 2 lakh crore for job creation, among others.

However, the Congress took a jibe at the Centre soon after the announcements, calling them nothing but a "Sarkar Bachao" Budget driven by the political compulsions for the survival of this "lame duck" government.

Taking to X, Mr Venugopal said, "The Budget will do nothing to address inflation or solve the farmers' crisis. It has absolutely nothing for the middle classes. Much like the 10 (previous) Budgets, this Union Budget is also far removed from the concerns of the ordinary Indian."

"While the government has belatedly recognised that job creation is the need of the hour, its so-called announcements are totally insincere and non-serious. They could not even properly copy from our Nyay Patra."

According to Mr Venugopal, merely throwing large headline numbers while giving pittances in reality is nothing but a cruel joke on the future of India's youth.

"Every segment of the Indian society is going to be in an even worse situation after this Budget, and this government that is completely cut off from the pain of the people will simply be concerned about its survival," he said.

Body Camera Footage Shows US Police Shooting Dead Unarmed Black Woman

New body camera footage released by the Illinois State Police shows officers shooting dead an unarmed Black woman in her home after she called for help over a possible intruder.

In the United States, where police shootings of minorities have become painfully common and polarizing events, the killing has attracted national attention, with President Joe Biden saying Sonya Massey "should be alive today."

So far one of the police officers involved in this case has been charged with murder.

Massey, 36, called 911 to report a possible intruder at her home, with police arriving after midnight July 6, according to the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office.

In video footage released Monday, Massey is seen talking to two officers in her home, while they ask for ID and she searches through paperwork.

The sheriff's deputies then ask her to check on a pot of boiling water on her stove, saying "we don't need a fire while we're here."

When one of the deputies steps back, Massey asks why, and he responds with a laugh: "away from your hot steaming water."

Holding the pot, Massey calmly responds "Oh, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus" -- prompting a deputy to respond "You better fucking not. I swear to God I'll fucking shoot you at your fucking face," drawing his weapon.

Apologizing, Massey crouches behind a counter as officers scream "drop the fucking pot." They then round the corner of the counter and open fire.

Afterward, one of the officers said they were afraid of "taking fucking boiling water to the fucking head."

Officer Sean Grayson, who is white, has been charged with murder.

Biden on Monday called Massey "a beloved mother, friend, daughter, and young Black woman."

"When we call for help, all of us as Americans -- regardless of who we are or where we live -- should be able to do so without fearing for our lives," he said in a statement.

High-profile civil rights attorney Ben Crump, representing the family of Massey, called it "one of the worst videos of a police shooting ever."

Police shootings and brutality -- especially instances of white on Black violence in a country with a long history of discrimination -- often attract outrage and protests in the United States, as well as defenses and pushback from ardent police supporters.

America's decentralized policing system, where individual towns and counties are responsible for their own policing, means there are no national training requirements and this makes reform extremely difficult.

Adding to complications, the United States is home to more guns than people, meaning police often train for violent encounters with the general public.

"This Gave A Seizure To...": Musk On Microsoft CEO's Update On Outage

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has responded to the biggest tech outage in history after millions of Windows users worldwide experienced the Blue Screen of Death. The outage was caused by an update to CrowdStrike 'Falcon Sensor'.

Microsoft CEO posted an update on X and said, "Yesterday, CrowdStrike released an update that began impacting IT systems globally. We are aware of this issue and are working closely with CrowdStrike and across the industry to provide customers technical guidance and support to safely bring their systems back online."

X CEO and Tesla Founder Elon Musk was quick to take a swipe at Mr Nadella's update and said, "This gave a seizure to the automotive supply chain."

Mr Musk has been posting memes and reacting to posts on X on the global outage. He reposted his 2021 post on X in which he said, "Macrohard > Microsoft".

CrowdStrike On Outage

In a statement on X, CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz said that the company is working with customers who have been impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts, adding that Mac- and Linux-based systems have not been affected.

Emphasising that the outage is not a security incident or cyberattack, he wrote,  "The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website."

"We further recommend organizations ensure they're communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers," he added.

Speaking to the 'Today' programme on NBC News later, Mr Kurtz said his company would make sure every customer is "fully recovered".

"We are deeply sorry for the impact that we have caused to customers, to travellers, to anyone affected by this, including our company," he was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters.

Outages In India

In India, almost all air carriers -- Vistara, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Akasa Air -- faced technical issues that affected booking, check-in, and flight updates. The airlines were checking in passengers manually.

Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu said the ministry and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are actively managing the situation using manual methods to ensure minimal disruption. "Passengers are advised to cooperate with airport staff during this period of disruption. We have instructed all airlines and airport authorities to keep passengers informed about their flight status and provide necessary assistance," he said.
