Fake Flipkart Delivery Boy Tries To Scam Customer, What Happened Next

A Bengaluru resident narrowly escaped a scam when a fake Flipkart delivery agent attempted to hand over a sealed box, claiming it contained an iPhone 15 ordered by his sister. In a Reddit post, he explained that her sister had paid in advance for the phone and opted for open-box delivery, allowing inspection before acceptance. However, the fake agent refused to open the box, raising suspicions. The resident began filming the conversation as evidence, documenting the agent's reluctance to allow him to check the package. The resident later verified the order status on Flipkart's website and contacted customer support to report the incident.

Just minutes after the fake delivery agent left, the official Flipkart delivery executive arrived at the resident's home with the actual package.

''My sister brought an iPhone 15 with VIP on Flipkart sale, it was an open box delivery. This loser (guy in white) came with a big package to deliver claiming that he can't do open box. We have to accept like as is. I refused he called some random people they said there is no facility like that,'' he wrote.

''He was scared shitless because I recorded all this. Telling his partners in crime in kannada that I have recorded everything and all. I did not accept the package within two minutes other guy came to deliver a very small package and said that he will do the open box. We got the product because I recorded everything otherwise I am sure he would have gave me some random package,'' he added.

Flipkart scammers beware
byu/taau_47 inbangalore

The Reddit post, which garnered hundreds of views, sparked a wave of comments from others sharing similar experiences of distrust with online marketplaces. Many users chimed in, recounting their encounters with fake delivery agents, while some praised the man's presence of mind.

One user wrote, ''Nice bro. Glad you knew something was off and recorded everything. It's very hard to trust Flipkart now. Their association with insane amount of scammers in all delivery pipeline is really scary. It's really disturbing yo know that Flipkart can't do or doesn't do anything about the scamming happening during the delivery.''

Another commented, ''Kudos to your presence of mind, I keep telling anyone as soon as something sus happens, pull out your phone and start recording. Make this an instinct. This is required in city that is corrupt to the bone like Bengaluru.''

A fourth added, ''Bro you made a pro move and saved from getting a brick.''

This incident highlights the importance of vigilance when receiving high-value deliveries. To prevent similar scams, it's essential to verify delivery details with the marketplace, opt for open-box delivery when available, and inspect packages carefully before acceptance.

After Case Against Siddaramaiah, His Wife Offers To Surrender Plots

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's wife BM Parvathi has written to MUDA (Mysuru Urban Development Authority), offering to return the plots of land that are at the heart of the corruption cases against her family. Earlier today, the Enforcement Directorate filed a money laundering case against the Chief Minister.

The Central agency's case came on the heels of a First Information Report filed by the Lokayukta on the orders of a special court.

Besides Mr Siddaramaiah and his wife, his brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy, Devaraju and others have been named in the FIR registered by the Lokayukta police on September 27. Devaraju is the man from whom Mallikarjuna Swamy had purchased land and gifted it to Ms Parvathi.

The MUDA case involves allegations of illegalities in the allotment of Mysuru's 14 premium sites to Mr Siddaramaiah's wife by the authority. It has been alleged that compensatory sites allotted to Mr Siddaramaiah's wife -- located in an upmarket area in Mysuru -- is far higher than the land acquired from her by MUDA.

Social activists have alleged that the allotment has led to a loss of Rs 45 crore to the state.

"Only Patriotic Choice": NYT Endorses Kamala Harris For President

The New York Times editorial board on Monday endorsed Kamala Harris, calling the Democrat "the only patriotic choice for president" in the race against Republican Donald Trump.

But the paper did not even mention the vice president's name until the fourth paragraph of its written endorsement -- instead focusing attention on Trump's unworthiness for the presidency, calling him morally and temperamentally "unfit."

"This unequivocal, dispiriting truth -- Donald Trump is not fit to be president -- should be enough for any voter who cares about the health of our country and the stability of our democracy to deny him re-election."

It's an "anyone but Trump" approach that The New Yorker took one day prior, with editors at the magazine saying the Republican represents the "ongoing assault on the stability, the nerves, and the nature of the United States."

In its lengthy endorsement, the Times acknowledged Harris "may not be the perfect candidate for every voter, especially those who are frustrated and angry about our government's failures to fix what's broken."

"Yet we urge Americans to contrast Ms. Harris's record with her opponent's," the paper said. "Ms. Harris is more than a necessary alternative."

The Times editorial board has not thrown its weight behind a Republican for president since 1956 when it backed Dwight Eisenhower.

But the paper emphasized that this election is "about something more foundational" than "competing politics and principles" in a two-party system.

"Unless American voters stand up to him, Mr Trump will have the power to do profound and lasting harm to our democracy," the paper wrote.

The Times said voters are right to ask more from Harris when it comes to policy specifics: "Given the stakes of this election, Ms. Harris may think that she is running a campaign designed to minimize the risks of an unforced error... under the belief that being the only viable alternative to Mr. Trump may be enough to bring her to victory."

"That strategy may ultimately prove winning, but it's a disservice to the American people and to her own record."

Meanwhile, it called the Republican Party "little more than an instrument" of Trump's "quest to regain power" and claimed a second Trump term "would be much more damaging and divisive than the first."

"Kamala Harris is the only choice," the editorial board said.

France Submits Final Price Offer To India For 26 Rafale Marine Jet Deal

France has submitted the final price offer to India for the 26 Rafale Marine Jet deal just ahead of the scheduled visit of Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to the country.

Defence sources told ANI that the best and final price offer has been submitted to the Indian authorities by the French side for the project and a significant price reduction has been given after tough negotiations in the proposed contract.

India and France are negotiating the deal for buying 26 Rafale Marine jets which are going to be deployed on the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier and different bases.

The two sides had also held negotiations last week when a French team was in the national capital for finalizing the discussions with India.

The deal is scheduled to be taken up for discussion during the India-France Strategic Dialogue where the Indian NSA is scheduled to meet his French counterparts from tomorrow in Paris.

The deal is important for the Indian Navy as it is looking at strengthening its maritime strike capability.

India has also approved deviations in the letter of request, which is the tender document equivalent in government-to-government deals, like the integration of the indigenous Uttam radar in the jets for the Indian Navy.

Sources said that the integration would have taken a longer time of around eight years along with a high price to be paid to the French side for doing so.

India had also asked France for integration of indigenous weapons on the plane. This includes the Astra beyond visual range missiles along with the Rudram anti-radiation missiles.

The sources added that the price for the deal has been based on the agreements over rate it inflation to be taken into account and would be using the previous deal for 36 Rafale fighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force as the basis.

Some of the Indian Air Force requirements have also been incorporated in the naval deal which will include around 40 drop tanks and a small number of work stations for the planes.

The Indian side is also going to get more number of long-range air-to-air Meteor missiles and with the anti-ship weaponry in this project planned to be concluded before the end of this financial year.

India's "Inevitable Consequences" Warning After Shehbaz Sharif's UN Speech

India issued a stern warning to Pakistan today at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) following Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's speech, in which he raised the Jammu and Kashmir issue. India firmly responded by stating that Pakistan's continued support for cross-border terrorism will "inevitably invite consequences."

India's First Secretary to the UN, Bhavika Mangalanandan, delivered a pointed rebuttal alleging Pakistan's complicity in global terrorism and citing its long history of using cross-border terrorism as a state policy. Ms Mangalanandan's statement came in response to Mr Sharif's call for India to reverse its 2019 abrogation of Article 370, which revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, and his demands for a dialogue between the two countries.

"This Assembly regrettably witnessed a travesty this morning. A country run by the military, with a global reputation for terrorism, narcotics trade and transnational crime has had the audacity to attack the world's largest democracy," Ms Mangalanandan said. "The world can see for itself what Pakistan really is."

The First Secretary described Mr Sharif's speech as audacious, given Pakistan's international "reputation for terrorism", narcotics trade, and transnational crime. "A country run by the military, with a global reputation for terrorism...has had the audacity to attack the world's largest democracy," she said, referencing attacks orchestrated by Pakistan-based terror groups, including the 2001 Indian Parliament attack and the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Ms Mangalanandan said Pakistan's "fingerprints" are on many terrorist incidents across the world.  "Perhaps it should come as no surprise that its prime minister would so speak in this hallowed hall. Yet we must make clear how unacceptable his words are to all of us. We know that Pakistan will seek to counter the truth with more lies. Repetition will change nothing. Our stand is clear and needs no reiteration," she said.

India reiterated that any discussion of a "Strategic Restraint Regime" with Pakistan is moot unless terrorism is eradicated. Ms Mangalanandan noted, "There can be no compact with terrorism." She also spoke of Pakistan's past, including its hosting of Osama bin Laden and connections to various terrorist incidents worldwide.

Mr Sharif, in his speech, linked the Kashmir issue with regional peace. He also alleged that India's military expansion was directed against Pakistan. However, Ms Mangalanandan pointed out Pakistan's history of meddling in Jammu and Kashmir through terrorism, seeking to disrupt the democratic process in the region.

India's response extended beyond terrorism to Pakistan's internal issues. Ms Mangalanandan accused Pakistan of human rights abuses, referring to the genocide of 1971 in Bangladesh and its persecution of minorities. She called it "ridiculous" for Pakistan to lecture the world about intolerance, given its own record.

Pakistan responded with a Right of Reply, rejecting India's claims as "baseless and misleading," and reiterated its call for a referendum in Jammu and Kashmir, as per UN Security Council resolutions.

R Ashwin Continues Stunning Run, Breaks Anil Kumble's Mammoth Test Record

Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Friday achieved an elite feat as he became the first Indian to pick the most wickets in Asia in Tests. Ashwin achieved the milestone on the first day of the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur when he removed Najmul Hossain Shanto for 31 runs from 57 balls in the 29th over. In Asia, Ashwin bagged 420 wickets in Tests and holds the top place on the list. While, Anil Kumble stands in second place with 419 wickets in Asia. Harbhajan Singh holds the third place with 300 wickets in Asia. Ashwin made his Test debut in 2011 against West Indies. Following that, the 38-year-old appeared in 101 Test matches and 191 innings, where he picked 522 wickets.

Presently, in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, India raced to a 1-0 lead following their remarkable 280-run victory in Chennai.

Coming to the match, India won the toss and decided bowl against Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test.
Zakir Hasan (0) and Shadman Islam (24) opened for Bangladesh, but failed to give a solid start as India pacer Akash Deep picked up two quick wickets to dismiss the opening pair of the visitors.

After losing two quick wickets Mominul Haque (40*) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (31) took control of the game and powered Bangladesh to 74/2 at the end of the first session.

Rain disrupted the second session, and the game was stopped for a few minutes.

Ashwin was the lone wicket-taker for India in the second session. He removed the Bangladesh skipper in the 29th over and gave India an upper hand on the game.

In the middle of the second session, the game was called off as rain played a spoilsport, and only 35 overs of play took place on Friday. At stumps, Bangladesh stood at 107/3 with Mominul Haque (40*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6*) unbeaten of the crease.

Bangladesh Playing XI: Shadman Islam, Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das (WK), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed.

India Playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

Alabama Set To Carry Out Second Execution Using Nitrogen Gas

Alabama is set to carry out the second execution in the United States using nitrogen hypoxia, a controversial method critics say is tantamount to torture. According to CNN, a previous attempt to execute Alan Eugene Miller, 59, using lethal injection was called off two years ago after state officials said they couldn't access his veins before the execution warrant expired. Now on Thursday, he will be strapped to a gurney where a respirator mask will be applied to his face through which pure nitrogen will be piped. The resulting oxygen deprivation will cause death by asphyxia.

Republican Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has designated a 30-hour window beginning Thursday morning for the 59-year-old's execution to take place, CNN reported.

Miller has been in jail for more than two decades. He was sentenced to death in 2000 for the 1999 murders of Lee Holdbrooks, Scott Yancy and Terry Lee Jarvis. He had worked with each of the victims and became upset when he believed the three "spread rumours about him", according to the outlet.

On August 5, 1999, Miller shot two of the three men at Ferguson Enterprises in Pelham, Alabama. "I'm tired of people starting rumours on me," Miller said, armed with a pistol while walking out of his employer's office. He then shot Scott Yancy three times and Lee Holdbrooks six times. He then headed to his previous employer, Post Airgas, where Terry Lee Jarvis worked and shot him "a number of times".

Miller was later captured on the highway with "a Glock pistol with one round in the chamber and 11 rounds in the ammunition magazine," per CNN

A forensic psychiatrist who testified for Miller's defence determined he was mentally ill and suffering a delusional disorder, leading him to believe the victims were spreading rumours about him. The psychiatrist concluded, however, that Miller's mental illness didn't meet the standards for an insanity defence in Alabama.

Notably, Miller's execution via nitrogen hypoxia comes nearly three years after Alabama officials tried to execute him by lethal injection, but failed because they could not access his veins within the required time limit. It also comes after a federal lawsuit filed by Miller over the use of nitrogen gas in his execution was settled last month.

Also Read | Secret Service Agent Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Kamala Harris Campaign Worker In Hotel Room

The 59-year-old had challenged the state's nitrogen hypoxia protocol, claiming it could cause him undue suffering, thus violating his Eighth Amendment protections against cruel and unusual punishment. The terms of the settlement are confidential, though state Attorney General Steve Marshall touted it as proof Alabama's nitrogen gas execution method - which was used for the first and only time earlier this year in the execution of Kenneth Smith - is constitutional, as per the outlet.

"The resolution of this case confirms that Alabama's nitrogen hypoxia system is reliable and humane," Mr Marshall said in a statement.

15-Member Team Makes History, Scales Unclimbed 20,900-Ft Peak In Arunachal

Proving that there really is no mountain high or treacherous enough, a team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports has scaled an unnamed and unclimbed 20,942-foot high peak in the Gorichen range of the Eastern Himalayas in the Tawang-West Kameng region in Arunachal Pradesh, close to the border with China.

The 15-member team, led by an Army colonel, has named the peak "Tsangyang Gyatso Peak"  in honour of the 6th Dalai Lama, Rigzen Tsangyang Gyatso.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Leaving from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) campus in Arunachal Pradesh's Dirang, the team led by Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal left to scale the peak on September 7 and the expedition took 15 days.

A statement released by the defence PRO said the peak was one of the most technically challenging and unexplored summits in the region and the team had to overcome immense challenges, "including sheer ice walls, treacherous crevasses, and a 2-kilometer-long glacier".

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

The statement said that by naming the peak after Rigzen Tsangyang Gyatso, NIMAS wanted to "pay tribute to his timeless wisdom and his profound contributions to the Monpa community and beyond". The Monpa tribe is one of the most populous tribal communities in the northeast.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

An official said NIMAS has informed the Indian Mountaineering Foundation about the successful expedition and the process to ensure that "Tsangyang Gyatso Peak" is recognised on official maps is underway.

Watch: Rohit's "Kohli Act" Caught On Camera Right Before India's Win vs BAN

Team India registered a thumping 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test of the two-match series on Sunday in Chennai. Bangladesh were chasing a mammoth target of 515 and on the fourth day, they got bundled out for 234. All-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was the star performer as he first scored a powerful century with the bat and then went on to register a memorable six-wicket haul. With this win, India have gained an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series.

During the first match, a hilarious moment involving India skipper Rohit Sharma also came to light. On the fourth day, Rohit was seen flipping the bails at the striker's end. Later, he walked away and hilariously casted a spell on the stumps.

For the unversed, star India batter Virat Kohli is popular for switching bails during matches.

The video soon went viral on social media and fans bombarded it with some funny comments.

"It was a great result looking at what lies ahead for us. We are playing after a long time, but you are never out of cricket. We came here a week before, we had a good lead up to the Test match and we got the result that we wanted. (On Pant's hundred) He's been through some really tough times. The way he has managed himself through those tough times was superb to watch. He came back in the IPL, followed by a very successful World Cup and this is the format he loves the most. For us, it was never about what is he going to do with the bat, we always knew what he had with the bat and with the gloves as well. It was just about giving him the game time," said Rohit during the post-match presentation.

"Credit to him as well, he went on to play Duleep Trophy and got ready for this Test match and had an impact straightaway in the game. No matter what the conditions are, whether we play in India, whether we play outside, we want to build the team around that (strong bowling). Whatever the condition has to offer, we got to be ready for it. In the last few years, wherever we have played, we have managed to have that in our armoury, whether it is seam bowling options or spin bowling options," he added.

Both India and Bangladesh will be facing each other again from September 27 for the second Test of the two-match series in Kanpur.

Shoaib Akhtar "Is That You"? Bowler's Action Reminds World Of Pak Speedster

Pakistan pace great Shoaib Akhtar was one of the most lethal fast bowlers of his time. Known as the "Rawalpindi Express", Akhtar terrorised opposition batters with his raw pace, bounce and toe-crushing yorkers for nearly two decades. Akhtar, who played 46 Tests, 163 ODIs and 14 T20Is for Pakistan, retired from international cricket after the 2011 World Cup, owing to knee related issues. However, a video of Akhtar's lookalike, Imran Muhammad, has gone viral on social media. His reaction reminded fans of Akhtar, who is now enjoying a successful career in cricket punditry.

For the unversed, the video is from a Oman D10 League match between IAS Invincibles and Yallah Shabab Giants. The viral clip, which was posted by a user, highlighted the the uncanny similarity between the two cricketers.

Here's how internet reacted:

Imran was 18 when he left for his village in Dera Ismail Khan district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Now 30, he fixes CCTV cameras in Muscat for a living, and also plays franchise league cricket in Oman.

After drawing curtains on his illustrious international career, Akhtar started a YouTube channel, where he gives reviews on International and league matches and Pakistani cricket.

Akhtar, who made his international debut in 1997, took 178 wickets in 46 Tests, the last of which was against India at Bangalore in 2007.

He bagged 247 wickets in 163 one-day internationals and also took 19 wickets in 15 T20Is.

"One of the main reasons for my retirement was that I am not able to wake up early anymore. I have been waking up at 6 am for the past 25 years. And then to bowl to the likes of Sachin and Dravid, they used to tire me all day. So this was one of the main reasons for my retirement - that I can't wake up early," Akhtar recently revealed.

Rahul's Goofy Reaction Viral As Pant Gets Lifeline En Route To 6th Test Ton

Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill put on 167 runs in the second innings to give India a stronghold in the ongoing 1st Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. Pant slammed his 6th Test ton, which put on him on-par with MS Dhoni as the wicketkeeper with most centuries for India in the format. Gill, on the other hand, registered his 6th score of 100 or more, following a duck in the first innings. However, Pant got a huge reprieve after Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto dropped a sitter when the wicketkeeper batter was at 72.

The incident happened in the 49th over as the ball ballooned high in the air after Pant mistimed his pull. This led to a series of emotions from KL Rahul, who was sitting in the pavilion all padded up.

As the ball went in the air, Rahul left his chair in order to get ready for batting. However, fate had other ideas as Shanto dropped a sitter. Rahul had a wry smile on his face as he returned to take his seat.

Pant, who made 109, and Gill, unbeaten on 119, put on 167 runs for the fourth wicket to ram home India's advantage in the second session after they bundled out Bangladesh for 149 on day two.

Pant, a left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, smashed the bowlers to every corner before a double off Shakib Al Hasan got him his sixth Test century.

The 26-year-old, who survived a near-fatal car crash in December 2022, took off his helmet and raised his bat to acknowledge a standing ovation from the weekend crowd.

Pawan Kalyan Announces 11-Day Penance Amid Tirupati Laddoo Row

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Saturday said he will undertake an 11-day penance to propitiate Lord Venkateswara for the alleged adulteration of animal fats in Tirupati laddus.

The actor-politician said he will begin the ritualistic penance from Sunday at Sri Dasavatara Venkateswara Swamy temple at Namburu in Guntur district.

"After undertaking the 11-day penance, I will visit Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy," said Mr Kalyan in a post on 'X', and appealed to the deity to grant him the power to do the ritualistic sanitisation to undo the alleged sins committed by the erstwhile YSRCP government.

Further, the Janasena founder wondered how Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) employees and board members could be oblivious to these alleged irregularities.

TTD is the official custodian of Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati.

During a recent NDA legislative party meeting, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu claimed that the previous YSRCP government did not even spare Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple and used substandard ingredients and animal fats for making the popular Tirupati laddus, known for their unique taste.

Mr Naidu's allegations sparked a massive public outcry across the country.

"My Availability...": Ponting Breaks Silence On Split With Delhi Capitals

After his appointment as the head coach of Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting opened up on his exit from the Delhi Capitals (DC) coaching setup, saying that his availability had become an issue and the franchise wanted him to operate as a full-time head coach. Ponting has been named the new head coach of Punjab Kings (PBKS) starting from IPL 2025, following his departure from Delhi Capitals two months ago, ending a seven-year stint with the franchise. Ponting becomes the third head coach in four seasons for Punjab Kings, who finished ninth in the 2024 IPL season. The team has not made the playoffs since 2014, when they were runners-up. One of Ponting's initial tasks will be to identify players for retention ahead of the next season, pending the finalisation of the IPL's retention rules.

Ponting's IPL journey began as a player with Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural 2008 season. He later joined the Mumbai Indians, where he relinquished the captaincy mid-season in 2013, allowing Rohit Sharma to take over and lead the team to their first title that year. Ponting continued in an advisory role in 2014 and served as head coach in 2015 and 2016.

In 2018, Ponting took over as head coach of the Delhi Capitals, guiding them to three consecutive playoff appearances from 2019 to 2021, including their maiden final in 2020.

After his tenure with the Delhi Capitals ended in July 2024, Ponting led the Washington Freedom to a title-winning campaign in the Major League Cricket (MLC).

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Ponting said that he managed to create a "family environment" during his stint with the Capitals.

"I felt like we created a really good family environment there. As I said, I understand what they want; they said to me that my availability was becoming an issue. And they wanted to pretty much have a full-time head coach. I could not commit to that, so I was disappointed that it ended, but I understand the direction they wanted to head going forward," said Ponting.

"Everyone that I have been there with, has had a great time. You have only to look at some of the social media posts that Delhi put out straightaway to understand that a lot of the people involved in the franchise were disappointed that I wasn't continuing as well. But the decisions were made," he added.

Ponting said that the pressure of winning a trophy weighs heavy on a coach, but he wants that pressure.

"That is the thing that makes coaching inviting to me. I like having that pressure. It is as close to getting back to playing as you can possibly get. From the moment I finished playing, when that competition stops in your life, it is really hard to replace that again. The closest thing I could find to playing was getting back in the cricket team's changing room being a coach and feeling like you are actually playing again. And coaching against guys that I might have played against and guys that are coaching that I played against--I want to beat them. Simple. A cricket changing room is where I'm supposed to be," he added.

Ponting acknowledged that he made a lot of great memories during his IPL journey, calling coaching MI an "awesome experience." He also said that DC changing room was a "special place" even without a trophy.

"But we made a couple of big slip-ups in our mega-auction a couple of years ago [2022] and even probably our player retentions, and that set us back quite a way. And even this year [2024], little things went against us again, with Rishabh [Pant, DC captain] being suspended for a game that we had to win. We missed the playoffs on run rate. Little things like that add up. The results in T20 games are decided by really small margins. And then our season can be defined by really small margins as well. And we have been on the wrong end of those for a couple of years at DC," he added.

On the evolution of coaching in the IPL, Ponting said that coaching has become more specific now and teams are covering every base by appointing coaches for different roles.

"So you have a lot of the best coaches in the world there at once. And when you have the best coaches and the best players, you are guaranteed to have high-quality cricket. What the IPL has done by having all of these coaches is, I think, the reason that India are actually as good as they are. There has always been that talent in India, but to have that talent around the best coaches for two or three months every year has helped them become better players," he added.

Ponting said that a lot of IPL franchises are trying to have a full-time coaching staff, something he considered not doing because he would not have been available during the off-season due to other commitments and family time.

Key performers for Punjab last season included Harshal Patel, who won the Purple Cap for the second time, and the uncapped Indian players Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma.

The squad also features notable talents like left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma, leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, and a strong contingent of overseas players, including England's Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, and South African pacer Kagiso Rabada.

With the recent retirement of Shikhar Dhawan, identifying a new captain will also be a priority for Ponting and the team management.

President appoints Atishi as Delhi CM

Atishi To Take Oath Tomorrow, Will Be Delhi's Youngest Chief Minister

Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi will take oath as Chief Minister of Delhi tomorrow at 4:30 pm. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Raj Bhavan - the Lt Governor's residence - and five AAP MLAs will take oath along with Atishi as ministers.

Atishi will be the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj from the BJP and Sheila Dixit from the Congress. The AAP leader will also be the youngest Chief Minister of Delhi.

Atishi will take over the top post after Arvind Kejriwal - the party's convenor - resigned after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the liquor policy case which saw his former Deputy, Manish Sisodia, party MP Sanjay Singh being jailed for several months.

Mr Kejriwal walked out of jail after six months and said: "I got justice from the legal courts... now I will get justice from the people's court. I want to ask the people of Delhi, is Kejriwal innocent or guilty? If I have worked, vote for me."

Mr Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in March, and again by the Central Bureau of Investigation in June, on money laundering and corruption charges linked to the liquor policy scam.

Last week, while ordering his bail in the former case (after granting relief in the latter in July), the Supreme Court said his "prolonged incarceration amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty".

The bail conditions included Mr Kejriwal being barred from signing government orders or files without the consent of the Lieutenant Governor, with whom the AAP has had several aggressive run-ins.

BJP, Congress On AAP's Move

After Arvind Kejriwal announced her as his replacement, Atishi said, This is an emotional moment for the party and people of Delhi. At the same time, the people are resolved to make Kejriwal the Chief Minister again. And, till the election is held and we stake claim to the new government, I will look after Delhi."

BJP hit back, questioning if this decision was due to a "rift" in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that its leader cannot handle.

"You didn't resign when in jail, but are now announcing that you will resign in 48 hours? People want to know the mystery behind these 48 hours. You don't have to discharge duties of the Chief Minister, why do you need 48 hours?" BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi asked.

The Congress, which fought the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi in alliance with AAP, described the Chief Minister's resignation announcement as a "political stunt". Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav said Mr Kejriwal resigned because he has no powers as Chief Minister and is bound by the Supreme Court's conditions. "This is a political stunt and nothing else. This will have no impact on the upcoming elections. People want change now," he said.

UP Man Promises To Marry 50 Women, Including A Judge, And Cheats Them

He befriended women online and asked them to marry him. And once he had earned the women's trust, he would disappear with their money. This was the modus operandi of Mukeem Khan, a conman who had cheated over 50 women across the country, including a woman judge who failed to see through his lies.

Khan, 38, a resident of Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch recently for extorting money from women on false pretexts.

He created multiple accounts on matrimonial websites with fake identities and trapped women in his intricate web of lies.

Khan told the cops he used to target Muslim women - unmarried, widowed and divorced - for marriage. He introduced himself as a government officer and enticed them with fake stories about his wife being dead and he being unable to take care of his daughter.

Khan, who is married and has three children, used to share photos of his wife and daughter with these women. He even met their families and fix the wedding date. Once he had earned their trust, he would ask for money to book marriage halls or for other wedding expenses.

And then, he would disappear.

During his interrogation, he revealed he had conned over 50 women across the country. A woman judge from Uttar Pradesh too was among his victims.

How it started

Khan created his first matrimonial website in 2020 - six years after his first marriage. It is where he found his first target - a Vadodara-based divorced woman with a five-year-old daughter - and proposed to marry her. She agreed.

Before leaving Vadodara, he faked a story about losing his wallet and took Rs 30,000 from her. He returned and started living with her, but the idea of earning easy money had him hooked.

In 2023, he married another woman - a widow - in Delhi with another fake story.

This continued - in different states, in different cities.

He received expensive gifts like mobile phones, jewellery and even two-wheelers from these women, and later sold those. If he couldn't manage to lure them into buying gifts for him, he would fake a story about his ATM card not working or a shortage of money.

In one such incident, he booked a two-wheeler as a gift for a woman, paying only a token amount. Citing shortage, he asked her to pay the rest, and disappeared during the first ride.

Live Updates: Walkie-Talkie Explosions Kill 14, Injure Over 300 In Lebanon

A series of walkie-talkie explosions caught Lebanon unawares today, killing at least nine people so far. According to Lebanon health ministry, over 300 people have been injured. This comes a day after the explosion of thousands of pagers sent shockwaves across the country, killing 14 people and injuring a whopping 2,800.

Today's blasts happened across southern Lebanon as well as Beirut's suburbs. At least one of the blasts happened near a funeral organised by Hezbollah for a member who was killed in yesterday's pager blasts. A video of the incident was widely circulated on social media platforms.

Iran-backed Hezbollah said today that it attacked Israeli artillery positions with rockets in the first strike at its arch-rival since pager blasts wounded thousands of its members in Lebanon and raised the prospect of a wider Middle East war.

Here are the live updates on the walkie-talkie explosions across Lebanon:

India's Likely XI vs Ban: No 3rd Pacer, 3 Spinners Are Ashwin, Jadeja And...

As India prepares to face Bangladesh in the first Test of their upcoming series, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has recommended a bold strategy for the Indian team. Raina suggested that India should deploy a spin-dominant attack with three spinners and two fast bowlers for the match, which begins on Thursday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Raina's strategy is driven by the nature of the Chennai pitch, which he expects to favor spinners due to its black soil composition. He proposed selecting Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav as the spin trio, alongside fast bowlers Mohammad Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah.

"I believe India should go with five bowling options, that is three spinners and two pacers. Mohammad Siraj has been doing very well in the past few years in Red ball cricket, we all know how good Jasprit Bumrah is, and what he has done for the Indian cricket team in the past few years barely any fast bowlers in the world of cricket has done. So with two pacers and Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav India should go ahead," Raina told IANS in the backdrop of the LLC press conference.

"Ashwin and Jadeja combination on Indian pitches is the most deadly combination so with the condition that Chennai pitch offers, the black soil, humid conditions and the winds they will just unsettle the opponents," he added.

India, currently leading the World Test Championship (WTC) standings with a 68.52 percent rating, is looking to solidify their position at the top. The series against Bangladesh is crucial as it precedes Test series against New Zealand and Australia.

Raina acknowledged that while his suggestion is based on pitch conditions and current form, the final decision rests with Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who will assess the best combination for the team.

Raina welcomed former teammates Shikhar Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik to the third edition of the Legends League Cricket. "I would like to welcome Shikhar Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik to the Legends League Cricket, we all have been playing cricket since 1998, and it's good that we will play cricket again."

The Legends League Cricket (LLC) is set to return for the third edition with former India stars Dinesh Karthik and Shikhar Dhawan, the two latest entrants taking part in the tournament, signed directly by the respective teams Southern Superstars and Team Gujarat.

Harbhajan Singh-led defending champions Manipal Tigers will take on the Konark Suryas Odisha (previously known as Bhilwara Kings) captained by Irfan Pathan at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium, Jodhpur on September 20.

Asian Champions Trophy: Hosts China Stun Pakistan To Enter Maiden Final

In a mega upset, China stunned Pakistan 2-0 (1-1) in the shootout to enter the final of the Asian Champions Trophy at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir, China. This will be the first time in the history of the tournament that the Chinese national team has made it to the title round while the second-highest number of title winners Pakistan will play for the bronze medal against the loser of the second semifinal between India and Korea. The Chinese goalkeeper Caiyu Wang was outstanding in his efforts to keep a clean slate in the shootout while Benhai Chen and Chanliang Lin scored for China. Earlier in the match, Yuanlin Lu had given China an early 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.

The first semifinal of the day truly lived up to its billing with China posing a mega threat to Pakistan's hopes of making the final right from the start. They were gritty in their pursuit, dominated the ball possession and created early chances. China were buoyed by the unprecedented support from the home crowd, who turned up in large numbers as it was a government holiday on Monday for the Mooncake Festival which marks the post-autumn harvest celebrations across China.

After a 0-0 stalemate in the opening quarter, China scored in the 18th minute through Yuanlin Lu's powerful dragflick to convert from the PC. The 1-0 lead for China put Pakistan on the backfoot. China also came up with brilliant defending in the second quarter to stop Pakistan from scoring a PC. They had created as many as five PCs this quarter but could not breach the Chinese defence.

Ahead of the start of the match, China Head Coach Jin Seung Yoo, who was a former player for Korea, said, "It's an important game for us and we are totally charged up. This is the first time China is playing the semifinal of such a prestigious event in front of home crowd. Tahir Zaman, the Head Coach of Pakistan, and I have played quite a lot against each other (when Seung played for Korea) including the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Pakistan used to crush us (Korea) in the matches."

Seung ensured this time, his team was not going to be crushed by Pakistan as they put up an inspired show. They punctured Pakistan's attack and kept the pressure on through tactful defending. Though Pakistan mustered a goal in the 37th minute through Ahmed Nadeem, China ensured they didn't concede another goal.

They played a disciplined game, tackled Pakistani attackers with strong man-to-man marking to ensure they didn't create scoring opportunities. Though Pakistan made a handful of circle entries in the following minutes in the third and the fourth quarter, China restricted their shots on goal quite effectively to keep the scoreline at a 1-1 stalemate.

Hero of the Match, Yuanlin Lu of China said, "We prepared for this match with great enthusiasm. We discussed strategies in small batches before we finally got together as a team and prepared for the match against Pakistan. It also helped that we had played a few test matches against Pakistan just before this tournament. We had won against them in some of those matches, so we were quite upbeat. This was the first time I was playing the Asian Champions Trophy and to win the Hero of the Match is special."

Indian Navy's Top Meet Amid Bangladesh Crisis, China's Aggressive Tactics

The top commanders of the Indian Navy will hold a meeting to review the security situation in and around the country from Tuesday amid growing instability in the region.

The regime change in Bangladesh and an increasing influence of extremist radical groups there is one of the emerging security concerns that is expected to come up for discussion at the meeting. Another key concern is growing Chinese activities and military support to Pakistan.

The meeting will be held in the new Naval Headquarters in Delhi from September 17 for four days, defence officials said according to news agency ANI. It will be the first conference since Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi took over as the Chief of Naval Staff in April this year.

The announcement comes after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's recent call to the defence forces to be ready for the unexpected at the Joint Commanders' Conference in Lucknow.

Creation of new theatre commands will also be taken up for discussion at the meeting.

The Admiral has instructed all commanders to maintain high operational preparedness at all times.

The Navy will also review its operations in the Gulf of Aden, where it achieved a lot of success against pirates and drone attacks early this year.

The force holds its commander's conference twice a year, where all senior officers give their inputs and presentations.

"I Can Breath Now": Lego Ejected From US Resident's Nose After 26 Years

Andi Norton, a 32-year-old resident of Arizona, United States, was surprised to discover a Lego piece that had been lodged in their nostril for 26 years while blowing their nose in the shower.

In an Instagram post on September 2, Norton, who identifies as they/them, revealed about the shocking discovery to their followers. They said that the incident happened when Norton was six years old during the 1990s. Despite their mother's efforts to recover the toy, a piece of the Lego stayed in Norton's nostril all these years. But the presence of the foreign object was only known recently.

The doctor suggested that Norton blow their nose in the shower, which Norton has been doing frequently these past dry, hot summer months. The steam may have helped dislodge their nasal passages, perhaps causing the eventual realignment of the Lego piece.

"Lego stuck in my nose for nearly 3 decades finally comes out? I CAN SMELL COLOURS NOW," the caption for the video reads.

"My doctor has told me, with the dry, hot summer months, it's really helpful to blow your nose while you're in the shower, because of the humidity of the steam and everything," Norton shared in the clip.

"It really helps kind of clear everything out," they added, saying they'd been "regularly doing this for the last six months or so."

"My whole life I've had sinus sensitivity, allergies, and issues with congestion," the social media user told Newsweek. "Since I am allergic to cats, dogs, grass, many of the native trees, and dust, and I've always been exposed to one or more of these things, I lived my life assuming any congestion issues were just simply caused by the allergies."

Mumbai Woman Arrested For Sending Indians To Cambodia As 'Cyber Slaves'

A 30-year-old woman from Mumbai has been arrested by Telangana's Cyber Security Bureau for allegedly trafficking youth from India to Cambodia to be kept as cyber slaves there. The woman, who worked with the director of a Chinese-owned company, was paid Rs 30,000 for every person that she managed to trick and send to the country.

'Cyber slave' is a term used for youth who are taken to a country by deceit, after being promised a legal employment opportunity, and are forced to participate in cyber frauds, sometimes under a threat of violence and confinement. Their passports are taken away, shutting off any way of returning home, and they are told there is a contractual obligation to stay. Sometimes, they are also 'sold' to other agents, often Chinese, for a price.

In July, the Indian embassy in Phnom Penh had said it had rescued 14 Indians who had been pushed into cyber crime in Cambodia. The embassy had said that, in collaboration with Cambodian authorities, it had facilitated the rescue and repatriation of over 650 Indians who had fallen victim to such scams so far.

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau in Hyderabad identified the arrested woman as Priyanka Shivkumar Siddu, a resident of Chembur in Mumbai, and said a case has been registered against her.

Branching Out

Officials said Priyanka had previously worked at a licensed overseas job processing agency named Maxwell, which shut down because its managing editor faced health issues. After gaining experience there, she started her own agency without a proper license. Since she lacked legal authorisation, she misled job seekers by offering visit visas, promising that they would be converted to job visas later.

As her agency expanded, she developed a connection with one Narayana, who also operated a similar agency in Mumbai. Narayana travelled to Cambodia and informed Priyanka about data entry job opportunities there, introducing her to Jithender Shah alias Amer Khan, the director of a Chinese-owned company named Zhan Zei.

Relative As Guinea Pig?

The officials said Priyanka also visited Cambodia to confirm the details and was offered $500 (approximately Rs 42,000) by agents as a commission for each candidate she sent to the country. Upon returning to India, she processed visas for her sister's son, Akshay Vaidhya, and his friend Danish Khan, who were the first two candidates she sent to Cambodia.

Once in Cambodia, the two travelled by road for 12 hours after which Jithender Shah alias Amer Khan explained their job, which involved cybercrimes. Priyanka advertised extensively through newspapers and social media, offering high-paying jobs in Cambodia, leading individuals like Vamsi Krishna and Sai Prasad from Hyderabad to contact her. She collected Rs 30,000 as commission for each candidate, processed their visas, and sent them to Cambodia, where they experienced severe physical and mental torture after refusing to participate in cybercrime activities.

Krishna and Prasad returned to India with great difficulty and the investigation into Priyanka's involvement in sending others abroad for cybercrimes is ongoing.

Officials said that not only are the victims of such scams coerced into committing cybercrimes and face abuse and psychological torture if they refuse, money is also extorted from some after a few months by threatening to kill them. The payment is demanded in cryptocurrency.

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau said those looking for jobs abroad should always demand a proper job visa, rather than a visit visa, and verify the credentials of travel agents through the Protector of Emigrants and the e-Migrant portal. Agents demanding large sums of money for processing fees, registration, or visa charges should be a red flag.

DMK Backs Siddaramaiah's Proposal To Discuss "Unfair" Sharing Of Taxes

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu has come out in support of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's proposal to convene a conclave of chief ministers to discuss the "unfair" sharing of taxes with states and fiscal federalism.

Siddaramaiah, in a letter to several chief ministers, including those of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, and Punjab, has highlighted what he called the unfair devolution of taxes by the Union government. He has argued that states with higher gross state domestic product (GSDP) per capita are being penalised for their economic performance and receiving disproportionately low tax allocations.

Echoing Mr Siddaramaiah's concerns, DMK spokesperson SAS Hafeezullah said the party has already raised these issues and pointed out that Tamil Nadu receives only 29 paise for every rupee of tax paid to the Centre.

Mr Hafeezullah further criticised the Union government for betraying states by bypassing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and collecting cess without sharing it with them, and failing to uphold the constitutionally mandated fiscal federalism. He also accused the Centre of allocating too little to non-BJP ruled states.

While welcoming Siddaramaiah's call in principle, Mr Hafeezullah rubbished the BJP's argument that states, including Tamil Nadu, receive a larger tax allocation than they did under the UPA. He emphasised that comparing the current funding to states against what it was during the UPA regime is like comparing apples to oranges.

He noted that the NDA government's budget has increased threefold compared to the UPA era, and that, at the time, states were able to levy taxes because there was no GST.

The DMK and the Congress are allies and part of the opposition INDIA grouping. The alliance swept the recent Lok Sabha polls winning all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, with the DMK and Congress emerging victorious in 22 and nine seats respectively

To a specific question on whether Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin should not have boycotted the Niti Aayog meeting in July so that he could have pressed these issues, Mr Hafeezullah called the boycott a protest to expose the BJP and said the DMK has no regrets.

Users can also now play music and podcasts directly on their smartwatch using the inbuilt speaker. The smartwatch offers up to 50m water resistance. Apple says Watch Series 10 is its fastest charging smartwatch yet, with up to 80 percent of charge achieved with just 30 minutes of charging.

Another notable upgrade this year is the inclusion of a sleep apnea detection feature. Apple Watch Series 10's accelerometer can measure breathing disturbances. Additionally, the smartwatch also checks restfulness in sleep. Using machine learning, Apple analyses this data every 30 days and shows this data to the user, informing them of any irregularities in their sleep cycle. This feature is said to be available in 150 countries.

Apple Watch Series 10 also carries features offered by its predecessor such as medications reminder and Atrial fibrillation (AFib) alerts.

Governor Directs Mamata Banerjee To Replace Kolkata Top Cop: Report

In the wake of the people's uproar demanding justice for the deceased woman doctor, West Bengal Governor Dr CV Ananda Bose on Sunday directed CM Mamata Banerjee to hold an immediate emergency Cabinet meeting and discuss the issue, a Raj Bhavan source said.

Governor Bose has also stated that the state government should decide on the people's demand to replace Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.

"Governor Bose has directed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to hold an emergency Cabinet meeting to discuss people's demand for justice for the deceased woman doctor," the source told PTI.

Governor Bose is on record that the government cannot evade responsibility and remain silent on the disturbing developments in the state, he said.

"According to the governor, the state should function within the Constitution and the rule of law. The ostrich-like attitude will not pay and the state must address the public demand to remove the Police Commissioner of Kolkata," the source said.

The body of an on-duty trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered, was found in the seminar room of state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, triggering nationwide outrage.

Protests were held by common people daily in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal.
