BJP Gets New State Chiefs, Moves Closer To Elect New National President

The BJP on Monday moved towards rolling out the exercise to have a new national president as the party elected chiefs in some states and is set to announce more on Tuesday that will put the requisite number of state heads at the helm for it to pick the replacement of J P Nadda.

The BJP's constitution requires the election of its presidents in at least 19 out of its 37 organisational states before the process to elect its national president begins, and the ruling party is set to cross the threshold on Tuesday.

V P Ramalingam and K Beichhua were elected BJP presidents of Puducherry and Mizoram respectively on Monday, while single nomination for the post was filed in states like Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, making their election a mere formality on Tuesday.

The BJP has now new state presidents, including some who were reelected, in 16 states, a figure that will rise on Tuesday. Some big states like Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh may also follow in the next few days.

The BJP has picked seasoned organisational men but with low public profile in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in Ramchander Rao and P V N Madhav respectively.

Maharashtra BJP working president and four-term MLA Ravindra Chavan is set to be elected president in place of Chandrashekhar Bawankule, a Cabinet minister in the BJP-led government in the state, while incumbent Uttarakhand president and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt is set to begin a new term.

The development has brightened the prospect for the BJP to elect its new national president to replace Mr Nadda, a Cabinet minister in the Modi government, in July.

Rao's choice, however, triggered a furious reaction from fiery Hindutva leader and MLA T Raja Singh, who resigned from the BJP. The elevation of Rao, a relatively low profile in the Telangana organisation riven with factionalism, is being seen as a balancing act and also a reward to old organisation hands.

The BJP's decision to replace its Lok Sabha MP Daggubati Purandeswari as its Andhra president with a seasoned organisation man is driven by its leadership's wish to build the organisation in a state where it is an ally of the ruling TDP but remains a minor electoral player.

Purandeswari, the daughter of towering Andhra leader N T Rama Rao and sister-in-law of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, enjoys a certain stature due to her family background and long stint in politics during which she served as a Union minister in the UPA government when she was in the Congress.

However, BJP sources said a thorough organisation leader like Madhav can be more helpful in building its organisation.

While Rao is a Brahmin, Madhav is from the Backward Classes, giving the party a toe hold in a community outside the ones that form the bulwark of all major political players in the state.

In Uttarakhand, the party, having made a Thakur leader in Pushkar Singh Dhami as the chief minister, has opted for a Brahmin face in Bhatt as its president. Chavan is a Maratha, a powerful community in Maharashtra.

"Like Absolute Butter": Trump On How US Struck Iran's Fordow Nuclear Site

Bombs dropped by American B-2 Stealth Fighter aircraft went through Iran's heavily-guarded Fordow nuclear facility "like butter", US President Donald Trump said.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said, "They were trying to seal up the entrance to where the bomb would most likely go in and they did that. They were working on that and the bomb went through it like it was butter, like it was absolute butter."

He added that the June 22 strikes, called Operation Midnight Hammer, on Iran's three nuclear facilities - Fordow, Natanz and Ifsahan - "obliterated" the country's nuclear program. Fordow was known as the country's most secretive and heavily protected site, hidden beneath a mountain and designed to resist airstrikes and foreign interference.

Trump said that the bunker-buster bomb strikes reduced Fordow to "just thousands of tons of rock". He went on to insist that highly-enriched uranium was not moved from the site before the attack, a claim made by Israeli officials to The New York Times.

"I think first it was very hard to do. It's very dangerous to do. It's very heavy, very, very heavy. It's a very hard thing to do. Plus, we didn't give much notice because they didn't know we were coming until just then," he said.

Operation Midnight Hammer came as the Iran-Israel conflict continued to escalate, with the two countries continuing strikes against each other since June 13. The US claimed it had given Tehran an ultimatum to stop enriching uranium, the failure of which led to the strikes, that used high-end weaponry, including the dreaded GBU-57 bunker busters and Tomahawk cruise missiles.

While Trump said a day after that Tehran's nuclear program has been set back by decades, UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi says Iran likely will be able to begin to produce enriched uranium "in a matter of months".

In Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures" program, Trump also said US trade talks with Canada will be stopped "until such time as they drop certain taxes".

He went on to say that a group of buyers had been found for TikTok, which faces a looming ban in the United States due to its China ties, adding he could name the purchasers in two weeks. "Very wealthy people. It's a group of wealthy people," the president said, without revealing more except to say he would make their identities known "in about two weeks."

Indian tourists flock to Southeast Asia

New Delhi: Short-haul destinations such as Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Nepal continue to see steady demand Indian travellers even as long-haul travel has slowed amid geopolitical tensions, travel companies said."While travellers have considered delaying or postponing plans, Southeast Asia has emerged as a go-to destination for those seeking familiar experiences," said Manjari Singhal, chief growth and business officer at Cleartrip. The booking platform has seen a 50% year-on-year rise in bookings to countries like Cambodia, Vietnam and the Philippines this summer season compared to last year. "Additionally, airfares to Vietnam and Indonesia have dropped, making these destinations more accessible for budget conscious holidaymakers," she added. And the spike in demand is continuing even after the end of summer vacation. 122146493"Our pipeline post reopening of schools shows continued momentum from the young professionals segment, especially for weekends and extended weekends," said Neeraj Singh Dev, executive vice president and head, ecommerce, and domestic and short haul holidays, at Thomas Cook (India) and SOTC Travel. The benefit of visa free or easy visa entry has only served to fuel demand from late booker segments for Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mauritius and Seychelles, he said.Affordable flight fares and steep discounts on accommodation are adding to the attraction in many destinations. Honeymoon Murder Case: Couple's Jewellery Recovered From Madhya Pradesh

The jewellery that Indore couple Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam took to their honeymoon in Meghalaya has been recovered by the police from Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam.

A special investigation team (SIT) of the Meghalaya Police has been working on the case in Madhya Pradesh.

The SIT recovered the jewellery and other items including Sonam's laptop and pen drive from the house of the in-laws of an Indore-based property dealer, Silome James.

James had rented out a flat in Indore to one of the three men, Vishal Singh Chauhan, who allegedly helped Sonam in killing her husband. Chauhan moved into the flat after returning from Meghalaya following the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.

James was arrested earlier over suspicion that he tried to tamper with evidence and hide incriminating material linked to the case. The owner of the flat, Lokendra Tomar, and the security guard, Balveer, have been arrested too for tampering with evidence.

The suspicion turned out to be true when the Meghalaya SIT reached his in-laws house in Ratlam and also found cash and incriminating documents there.

During interrogation, James told the SIT that he moved the items to the house in Ratlam of his in-laws.

The SIT officers said that Sonam, the key accused in the murder case, is believed to have stayed in the Indore flat rented out by James between May 26 and June 8, before she surrendered to the police.

Raja Raghuvanshi was killed by Sonam and the three men while the couple was in Meghalaya for their honeymoon.

They were presumed missing when their family members could not reach them.

What initially started as a probe to find the couple turned into a murder investigation when Raja's body was found in a gorge on June 2. His preliminary autopsy report revealed that he was attacked twice - once each on the back and front of his head.

On June 7, the 'missing' wife was found in an unconscious state at a 'dhaba' in Ghazipur. She was taken to Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she surrendered before the police. The remaining three killers were also subsequently arrested.

"Poori Bhaji For Rs 15": Video Of Indian Railways' Economy Meal Goes Viral

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation collaborated last year with Indian Railways to offer hygienic meals and snacks at affordable prices to serve passengers, particularly those in General Class Coaches. Priced at Rs 15, the economy meals provide a basic yet fulfilling option for budget-conscious travellers. Now, a video showing what's inside the Rs 15 meal is going viral on social media, garnering mixed reactions from viewers.

Shared on X, the video shows the 'Janata Khana' comprising seven pooris and bhaji, along with pickle. The meal is available for Rs 15. The aim behind this initiative is to give passengers a cheap and filling food option during travel. In addition, there is also a Rs 20 version of the same meal, which comes with a 300ml bottle of water.

Watch the video below:

Since being shared, the video has accumulated more than 800,000 views. Several social media users responded positively to the initiative, appreciating the convenience and quality of the meals.

"Looks good honestly in this price, should be available on every railway station," wrote one user. "Good for people who run short on time, have less money available or cannot afford food otherwise," said another.

"A full meal for just Rs 15 - now that's what public service should look like! Janata Khana is a small price with a big impact, ensuring no one goes hungry on the move. Kudos to Indian Railways for putting dignity on a plate," commented a third user.

"Good initiative! We need to understand that trains are meant for travel, they are not a 5 star culinary restaurants on wheels. If you're that much concerned about food, bring it from your own home," said another.

"This is very good - I have eaten janata meal before it is tasty and fills your stomach fully. Should be available on all routes though," one user shared.

"I think it's pretty decent for the price. Anything more than that , it would actually need to be subsidized. You wouldn't get this much for 15 bucks at even the worst roadside stall," wrote another.

However, some users also criticised the meal, saying that the food looks average and of poor quality.

"There is no problem with the quantity of food in Indian Railways; the real problem is with the quality," said one user. "don't know why even give this thing. how is this shit healthy by any means, let alone hygenic and fresh," commented another.

AI venture sacks 4 for party after crash

Four senior executives at Air India SATS (AISATS) have been asked to resign after a video of an office party in Gurugram went viral, sparking widespread outrage. The video surfaced just days after the devastating Air India flight AI171 crash on June 12, 2025, which killed 259 people and left the nation in mourning. The clip, which featured AISATS Chief Operating Officer Abraham Zachariah and other staff members dancing to loud music, was widely circulated on social media. The timing of the celebration—held shortly after one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters—was widely condemned as tone-deaf and deeply insensitive. Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London, crashed into a hostel for medical students at Ahmedabad’s BJ Medical College shortly after takeoff. Of the 260 people on board, only one survived.— TheSquind (@TheSquind) As grieving families awaited the repatriation of victims' remains, the video drew sharp criticism for its perceived lack of empathy. Many users on social media slammed the company for insensitivity and poor judgment. In response, AISATS issued a statement saying, “At AISATS, we stand in solidarity with the families affected by the tragic loss of AI171 and deeply regret the lapse in judgment reflected in a recent internal video. The behaviour does not align with our values, and firm disciplinary action has been taken against those responsible as we reaffirm our commitment to empathy, professionalism, and accountability.” While AISATS did not specify when the party occurred, sources confirmed that four senior staff members were terminated for their direct involvement in organizing the event. AISATS is a joint venture between Air India, now owned by the Tata Group, and Singapore-based SATS Ltd., a global leader in airport services. The company emphasized that disciplinary action had been taken to uphold its ethical standards, but the damage to its public image amid a national tragedy has already drawn significant backlash.

No Suit In White House, Zelensky Goes Formal For Latest Trump Meet

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has returned his wardrobe since a disastrous Oval Office meeting with Donald Trump in February, switching his typical khaki military-style tee-shirts and long-sleeved tops for more formal, but still rugged, black suit-style jackets and shirts.

The media-savvy leader had wanted to show solidarity with the troops fighting Russia on the frontline. But he was chided by a US reporter for not wearing a suit at the White House event, which descended into a shouting match over whether he was showing sufficient gratitude for U.S. wartime support.

Since then, Zelensky has worked to rebuild relations with Washington, whose military help Kyiv still badly needs, even though the U.S. president has shown no sign of resuming the donations of weaponry that his predecessor Joe Biden, had instituted.

When Zelenski met Trump at Pope Francis's funeral in Rome in April, he wore a heavy black field jacket and black shirt buttoned to the collar, with no tie.

He sported a similar look when meeting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London on Monday, and again at the dinner hosted on Tuesday by the Dutch king that preceded Wednesday's NATO summit in The Hague.

Although he was not invited to the meeting itself, he met with Trump afterwards, with an agenda including a wish-list of arms purchases.

The subtle switch, stopping short of a white shirt or tie, has captured attention on social media and from the Ukrainian edition of ELLE magazine, which on Wednesday described his changed look as "visual diplomacy of a new kind".

The negative focus on Zelenskiy's attire at the White House was widely criticised by Ukrainians, who have largely rallied around their leader since Moscow's February 2022 invasion.

A communications adviser for the president's office did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Bodies Of 259 Air India Crash Victims Have Been Identified: Officials

All the bodies from the Air India Boeing Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad have been recovered and several of the are still undergoing DNA matching, sources have said. Officials of the health department said all the bodies have now been recovered and so far, 253 bodies have been identified through DNA and six by facial recognition.

Since the flight to London crashed on June 12, there had been no official announcement about the total number of deaths. The authorities have said a figure could be arrived at only after the DNA matching took place.

256 bodies have been handed over to families so far. The DNA identification of the remaining bodies is still in progress.

The Boeing Dreamliner bound for London had started losing height and crashed seconds after the take-off, landing on residential campus of BJ Medical College in Meghani Nagar, located .just outside the airport perimeter. Only one passenger out of the 242 on board -- a British-Indian man seated in 11A -- had survived.

It is not yet known what caused the crash. The black box of the aircraft is being examined.

Asked about media reports suggesting the black box is damaged and could be sent abroad for data extraction, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu called it "speculation". "The black box is very much in India, and it is currently being investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau or AAIB," he said.

Air India has responded to the crash with a slew of safety and prevention measures that includes cutting down on the use of its wide-body planes for international flights by 15 per cent. The cuts will be implemented between now and 20 June and will continue thereafter until at least mid-July.

BJP MLA Gets Showcause Notice After Vande Bharat Assault Video Goes Viral

The Uttar Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a show-cause notice to Babina MLA Rajiv Singh Parichha following a disturbing incident aboard the New Delhi-Bhopal Vande Bharat Express, where a passenger was allegedly assaulted by individuals identified as the legislator's supporters.

The incident occurred on June 19 at Jhansi railway station and has since ignited a storm of criticism after CCTV footage of the assault went viral on social media, micro-blogging sites, and other media platforms. IANS does not confirm the authenticity of the video.

In response to the viral video and mounting public outrage, BJP state general secretary Govind Narayan Shukla issued a notice to Parichha, stating that the act falls under serious indiscipline and demanding a written explanation within seven days.

The 18-second clip shows a group of men slapping and hitting a passenger, identified as Rajkishore, with slippers inside coach E-2 of train number 20172.

The video also shows MLA Parichha standing nearby during the incident. According to reports, the altercation stemmed from a dispute over seat number 49, which Rajkishore had been allotted.

Parichha, who was travelling with his wife Kamli Singh (seat No 50) and son Shreyansh Singh (seat No 51), reportedly requested Rajkishore to switch seats, so the family could sit together.

When the request was declined, tensions escalated.

Upon arrival at Jhansi station, a group of men allegedly linked to the MLA boarded the train and assaulted the passenger.

Former Madhya Pradesh minister, Congress leader and media head Mukesh Nayak condemned the incident on Instagram, describing it as a grim reflection of "good governance".

He alleged that the elderly passenger was left bleeding from the nose after the attack.

While Parichha has denied involvement in the assault, claiming the passenger misbehaved and caused a nuisance, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Jhansi confirmed that a non-cognizable report (NCR) was filed by the MLA.

As of now, no formal complaint has been lodged by the victim, who reportedly disembarked in Bhopal and has expressed reluctance to pursue legal action.

The incident has raised serious concerns about passenger safety aboard India's flagship high-speed trains.

With the video continuing to circulate widely, the political and public fallout is far from over.

Iran Attacks US Air Base: What We Know So Far

  1. Tehran said that with the strikes, it has sent out a clear message to the White House that "Iran will not leave its territorial integrity, sovereignty and national security unanswered under any circumstances."
  2. Iran's Supreme National Security Council said the number of missiles used in this operation was equal to the number of bombs the United States used in its assault on Iran's nuclear facilities.
  3. The US has confirmed the airbase in Qatar was targeted by the missile attack, with a military official telling Reuters that no Iranian attack was detected at any other US military base.
  4. The targeted base was also located far from urban areas and residential zones in Qatar, ensuring minimal risk to civilians, it insisted.
  5. Qatar has said that there were no casualties from the attack on the US military base, adding it reserves the right to respond following the Iranian attack. It said its air defences had intercepted missiles directed at the airbase.
  6. The Qatari Foreign Ministry has condemned the attack as a clear breach of Qatar's sovereignty, airspace, and international law.
  7. Iran, however, claimed that the operation posed "no threat whatsoever to our friendly and brotherly country Qatar or its people".
  8. Iran had issued threats to retaliate against the United States after US bombers dropped 30,000-pound bunker-busters on Iranian underground nuclear sites at the weekend, joining Israel's air war against Tehran, and President Donald Trump mooted the possibility of the Iranian government being toppled.
  9. Shortly before Iran launched missiles at the base, Qatar announced it had closed its airspace temporarily to ensure the safety of residents and visitors. Iran said it coordinated its strikes, prompting the airspace closure, as per reports.
  10. Al Udeid airbase is the largest US military installation in the Middle East, situated across the Gulf from Iran.

Punjab Property Dealer, Wife, 15-Year-Old Son Found Dead Inside Fortuner

A somber scene unfolded in the fields near a village in Punjab's Patiala district when three members of a family were found dead inside a Toyota Fortuner SUV under mysterious circumstances.

Police officer Manjit Singh said while it appeared to be a suicide case, all angles are being investigated.

The car was found parked on a deserted village road along the National Highway in Tepla Banur.

The bodies have been identified as Sandeep Singh Rajpal, 45, a property dealer from Mohali; his wife Mandeep Kaur, 42, and their son Abhay Singh, 15.

The bodies have gunshot wounds, and blood had splattered on the plastics inside the cabin. The property dealer's body was found in the driver's seat, his wife in the front passenger seat, and their son in the backseat.

Farm workers saw the vehicle and on sensing something off, they called the police. Police officers Rajpura Manjit Singh, Arshdeep Sharma, Hardev Singh, Jaswinder Pal, and forensic teams came to the spot.

The police said a handgun was recovered from the SUV. The bodies have been sent to a hospital for post-mortem, scheduled for Monday. The police said they have contacted the relatives of the family and they would be arriving from Mohali soon.

Preliminary investigation indicated Sandeep Singh may have shot his wife and son before taking his own life. The police noted the son had been struggling with mental health challenges.

Sandeep Singh, originally from Sikhwala village in Bathinda, has been living in Mohali for the last eight years. His brother lives in their Bathinda village, while his sister lives abroad, the police said.

Atomic Agency Veteran Warns of Global Nuclear Risk After US Attack On Iran

In a significant escalation of geopolitical tensions, the US launched a targeted military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, raising global concerns about the potential fallout and future implications. The attack, which focused on three key sites at Natanz, Isfahan and most importantly the Fordow enrichment facility, has prompted widespread speculation about the extent of the damage and the possibility of radiation leaks affecting nearby populations and neighbouring countries.

In an exclusive interview to NDTV, Peter Rickwood, former press officer of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna and founder of Atomic Reporters, shared his insights on the situation.

Mr Rickwood emphasised that the full impact of the attack would take time to assess, particularly due to the underground nature of the facilities. He noted that without direct inspections of the vaults and centrifuge areas, it would be difficult to determine the actual damage.

Importantly, Mr Rickwood pointed out that Iran had recently declared the removal of nuclear material from Fordow and other enrichment sites, raising questions about their current location and status.

Mr Rickwood expressed concern over the IAEA's ability to perform its verification duties in a conflict zone. The absence of inspectors means there is no way to confirm whether the nuclear material is being further enriched, potentially to weapons-grade levels. This uncertainty adds to the complexity of the situation and underscores the need for transparency and international oversight.

Add image caption here

Seven B-2 Spirit bombers were used to attack Fordow nuclear enrichment site in Iran

Satellite images of the attack have surfaced, but Mr Rickwood cautioned that these only reveal surface-level damage. He likened the scenario to a mine disaster, where the true extent of destruction lies beneath the surface. While acknowledging the military precision of the operation, he questioned whether the bombs penetrated deep enough to destroy the enrichment equipment and whether any of it had been removed prior to the strike.

The implications of the attack extend beyond immediate physical damage. Iran's status as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is now under scrutiny. Mr Rickwood warned that Iran might consider withdrawing from the NPT, following the precedent set by North Korea in 2003. Such a move would eliminate the legal framework for inspecting Iran's nuclear facilities, further reducing global visibility into its nuclear activities.

Mr Rickwood has a sombre reflection on the broader consequences of the attack. He expressed fear that the world is entering a highly risky and vulnerable phase, where diplomatic channels are strained and the potential for nuclear proliferation is heightened. The situation calls for careful monitoring, renewed diplomatic efforts, and a recommitment to international treaties that promote peace and security.

Mr Rickwood stressed on the urgent need for global cooperation and vigilance in the face of escalating nuclear tensions. As the international community grapples with the aftermath of the attack, the role of watchdog organisations like the IAEA becomes even more critical in ensuring accountability and preventing further destabilisation.

Sirens, Bodies, 450 Km-Evacuation Route: What Indian Students Saw In Iran

With an Indian flag clutched tightly in one hand and a dazed look in her eyes, Mizban stepped out of the airport visibly anxious and overwhelmed. "We saw dead bodies. Heard blasts. Saw airstrikes," she muttered, avoiding eye contact as she tried to make sense of the safety around her. "From Tehran to Qom to Mashhad, we were always on the move since the Iran-Israel conflict escalated. I'm just grateful to be home. If we're called back by my university, we'll have to decide carefully."

Not far from her stood Zubeda, a single mother from Srinagar, holding a faded photograph of her son, a medical student in Tehran. "I only spoke to him once or twice during the crisis. He hid his fear to keep me strong. I want him to become a doctor, but not at the cost of living through war," she said, while scanning every face stepping through the arrival gate at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday evening, as Mahan Air flight IRM071A touched down with 256 Indian students, most of them from the Kashmir Valley, who had been stranded in Iran since the country began trading missile strikes with Israel on June 13.

This marks the third chartered evacuation flight under India's ongoing mission Operation Sindhu, launched to bring back citizens caught in the crossfire of escalating tensions in Iran, particularly around Tehran after Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Operation Rising Lion.

As part of Operation Sindhu, a total of three charter flights - two from Iran's Mashhad and one from Turkmenistan's Ashgabat - have successfully brought back 827 Indian nationals so far, including over 300 students, though the final count is still being verified. A fourth evacuation flight is scheduled to arrive in Delhi at 11:30 pm on Saturday, expected to push the total number of returnees past the 1,000 mark.

Junaid, whose younger brother and sister were among the evacuees, recalled, "She called from random numbers when she could. We were extremely worried as there was an internet shutdown and so we lost communication.  The university buildings were close to bombed zones. My brother made it home yesterday, but we were terrified for my sister. She's just in her third semester at college."

Sumarah Rahman, another Kashmiri student, said, "We were terrified. Nights were filled with sirens and blasts. But now we're home. God willing, we'll go back when it's safe to finish our studies."

Ahabashi, a final-year student from Shasherf Bishti University, added, "Tehran changed overnight. The fear was real. If death had come, it would have come so far from home. But the Indian government stood by us, every detail was handled with care."

From Tehran to Qom to Mashhad: A Risky Escape

The rescued students had first been moved from Tehran to Qom, 150 kilometers to the south, before being taken to Mashhad, from where chartered flights began the homeward journey. Despite its closed airspace due to ongoing conflict with Israel, Iran made a rare exception to allow India's emergency evacuations.

India's Deputy Chief of Mission in Tehran, Mohammad Javad Hosseini, confirmed, "Iran has been aiding evacuations despite its own crisis. It's a gesture of goodwill." He noted that the evacuation has included pilgrims and medical students, many of whom were spread across universities and seminaries in the region.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students' Association issued a statement expressing gratitude. "We thank the Government of India for their relentless efforts and timely coordination with Iranian authorities. We remain committed to the safe evacuation of all remaining students, especially those from vulnerable and remote regions," the statement read.

While the relief was palpable, a sense of uncertainty lingered. Many students had traveled to Iran in pursuit of affordable medical education, a path often unavailable in India's highly competitive academic system. Their futures now hang in limbo. "I want my son to follow his dream," Zubeda said as she waited, "but I never want to feel this fear again."

Kim Jong Un Sends 6,000 More To Kursk After Massive Troop Losses In Russia

North Korea is set to send 6,000 personnel, including combat engineers and military workers, to assist in reconstruction efforts in Russia's Kursk region, according to Moscow's top security official. The announcement was made during Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu's visit to Pyongyang, marking his second meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un this month, highlighting deepening ties between the two nations.

"Chairman of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un has decided to send 1,000 sappers to Russia to clear mines on Russian territory, as well as 5,000 military construction workers to restore infrastructure destroyed by the occupiers," Shoigu said, according to Russian state media TASS.

According to Shoigu, Moscow and Pyongyang also plan to create memorials for the Korean soldiers who died while liberating the Kursk Region.

"The heads of our states have decided to perpetuate the feat of the soldiers of the Korean People's Army who took part in the fighting. Specifically, we are talking about the unveiling of memorials in Russia and the DPRK in memory of the Korean soldiers who fell in the battles for the liberation of the Russian territory. In this regard, during the visit, the construction of a memorial complex with a museum in Pyongyang with the participation of the Russian side was discussed," he added.

According to news agency TASS, Shoigu is visiting Pyongyang for the third time in nearly three months. He explained this frequency by a high pace of implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Pyongyang. "First of all, it is related to the intensity of implementation of this agreement, which was actually signed a year ago," he stressed.

"The pace that has been set in the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement, of course, requires constant attention and regular adjustments and decision-making at all levels."

According to Business Insider, Kim initially sent some 12,000 troops in the fall of 2024 to Kursk, the oblast where Ukraine entered in August of that year and seized up to 500 square miles of Russian soil.

Aided by Pyongyang's soldiers, the Kremlin's forces recaptured almost all of those gains by March 2025, effectively ousting Ukrainian forces from the region by late spring.

On June 15, the UK Defense Ministry said in an intelligence update that it estimated that more than 6,000 North Korean troops had been killed or wounded in Kursk.

Netanyahu Thanks "Friend Of Israel" Trump For Iran War "Support": 10 Points

  1. The Iran Military has confirmed in a statement on Telegram that it has begun a "new round of combined missile and drone attacks" on military sites in Haifa and Tel Aviv. "An escalatory and impact-focused trajectory of missile operations targeting military and military-industrial sites remains on the agenda," the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said.
  2. The Israeli military has said Iran used at least one missile with multiple warheads, posing a new challenge to its defenses, per the Associated Press. While descending, the missile warhead splits, posing a threat to a much wider area than other ballistic missile warheads. A submunition was found in central Israel, according to the IDF. On Thursday, IDF spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin, said that Iran had launched more than 450 ballistic missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel. He also added that Israel had destroyed about two-thirds of Iran's missile launchers.
  3. Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu said that "all of Israel is paying a price" for the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, as he visited the Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva which was attacked by Iran with a ballistic missile. Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that they had targeted an Israeli intelligence and command centre "near a hospital".
  4. Russia warned Israel against striking Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant, saying "it will be a catastrophe comparable to Chernobyl..." Russia has helped build Iran's only operating nuclear power plant and some of the workers there are Russian. Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian foreign ministry said that the Kremlin is "particularly concerned about the safety of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which employs Russian specialists."
  5. On Friday, Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi will meet European representatives from three countries for talks in Geneva, Switzerland, Iran's state-run news agency IRNA reported. According to CNN, the foreign office said that the meeting will allow "continued engagement with our greatest ally".
  6. Soroka Medical Centre, a major hospital in the southern Israeli city of Beer Sheva was extensively damaged in Iranian strikes. After the attack, Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the military to "intensify strikes against strategic targets" in Iran, in order to "destabilise the Ayatollahs' regime", apart from removing other threats.
  7. The Israeli Defence Forces confirmed that they struck military targets in Iran including the "inactive" Arak nuclear facility, although no major damage was reported. The military said that it was done in an attempt to prevent potential use for nuclear weapons development.
  8. Iran's foreign ministry in a post on X, warned Israelis to avoid being near "military and intelligence sites". "We call on Israelis to heed our evacuation orders before strikes and to avoid proximity to military and intelligence sites", he said.
  9. During a visit to the Soroka Medical Centre in Beer Sheva, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today that the US is "already helping a lot" in its conflict against Iran. He told CNN, "They're participating in the protection of the skies over Israel and its cities. I think it's a remarkable cooperation."
  10. Per Reuters, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi have spoken several times to find a diplomatic end to the conflict since the commencement of the attacks last week. Aragchi said that Iran will not return to negotiations till Israel stops attacking. A diplomat close to Tehran also said that the foreign minister told Witkoff that they "could show flexibility in the nuclear issue" if the US pressures Israel to end the war.

IIT Graduate Among 15 'Online Sexual Predators' Arrested In Telangana

In a major crackdown on online child sexual predators, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has arrested 15 people, mostly educated men in their 20s.

Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau director Shikha Goel told NDTV that in the last four months of the formation of the Child Protection Unit, 294 First Information Reports (FIR) were filed and 110 people were arrested. Whereas in the two years preceding that, only 37 FIRs and 34 arrests were made against those who committed offences of uploading, browsing, sharing child sexual exploitation and abuse material.

In a day-long special operation across the state, 15 people identified as habitual offenders linked to 57 cyber tipline complaints were arrested.

They were educated men from middle-income families, aged 19 to 50. One of them was an IIT graduate working with a reputed software firm, and another was an engineering graduate looking for a job.

The accused were uploading, storing and circulating nude and sexually explicit videos of girls, aged between 6 and 14 years.

Preliminary assessment suggests the victims may all be from outside the country. The origin of the videos is being investigated, and how it reached the accused.

Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau director, Shikha Goel, told NDTV, "All of them appeared to be part of closed user groups sharing such material. Whether they are part of any organised gang or cartel is still under investigation."

The special operation was conducted simultaneously from Hyderabad, Yadagirigutta, Karimnagar, Warangal, Jagtiuyal and Jagadgirigutta.

"Our Child Protection Units are patrolling social media and the dark web to keep a watch on suspected offenders," Ms Goel said.

In an earlier operation, the Child Protection Unit rescued a girl.

"Usually it is not easy to trace the victim or even the offenders from the cyber tipline complaints but we have used technology to track them down," the officer said, warning that while the responsibility of social media platforms and intermediaries needs to be fixed, self-regulation through awareness that even browsing such material is a serious offence, is important to curb the crime.

"We are keeping a strict watch on who is buying, watching, browsing, uploading, sharing or creating such illegal content," she said.

Ranthambore's Tigress Arrowhead Dies After Daughter's Move, Crocodile Fight

Tigress Arrowhead (T-84), one of Ranthambore's most celebrated big cats, passed away at the age of 14, forest officials confirmed in an Instagram post on Thursday. Her death came just hours after her daughter was relocated to another tiger reserve, marking an emotional end to a storied legacy in Indian wildlife history.

"With a heavy heart, we share the heartbreaking news from Ranthambore. Tigress Arrowhead (T-84), the pride of our forest, daughter of Krishna and granddaughter of legendary Machli, has passed away," read the heartfelt message posted by Ranthambhore National Park's official Instagram account. "Just hours after her daughter RBT 2507 was relocated to Mukundra, Arrowhead took her last breath. She had been bravely battling bone cancer for a long time."

"Arrowhead was more than just a tigress; she was a symbol of grace, strength, and motherly spirit. Her legacy will live on through her cubs and in the hearts of all wildlife lovers. Rest in peace, Arrowhead. The jungle will forever echo your roar," the post further reads.

Born to tigress Krishna (T-19) and the granddaughter of the legendary Machhli (T-16), Arrowhead was part of a famed tiger bloodline. She had been suffering from advanced bone cancer and had been under observation for weeks.

In a fitting farewell, Arrowhead displayed her trademark fierceness just two days before her death-taking down a crocodile near Padam Talab, a feat reminiscent of her grandmother Machhli, famously known as the 'Crocodile Killer'.

The incident occurred in Zone 3 near Jogimahal, in the Padam Talab Latab area, when tigress T-84, known as 'Arrowhead', ambushed a crocodile emerging from the water. Eyewitnesses say Arrowhead had been lying silently near the water's edge before springing into action. The attack turned into a fierce one-minute struggle, but the crocodile ultimately succumbed to her powerful bite.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Photos obtained by NDTV show the dramatic moments. Arrowhead leapt into the water, taking a chunk of meat out of the crocodile's neck, and finally dragging the lifeless reptile into the forest. A video clip captures the sheer strength of the tigress as she hauls the crocodile's body away from the lake.

Pics: Ranthambore Tigress Takes Down Crocodile In Rare Jungle Encounter

Her passing symbolises the end of an era for Ranthambore, where her lineage had long been a symbol of strength, beauty, and survival.

Amid Deepika's 8-Hour Work Demand, Genelia Says "It Is Not Impossible"

Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit has led to several industry people reacting to her 8-hour work demand.

Genelia Deshmukh who is gearing up for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, weighed in on how it might get tough for working mothers, but it is not unmanageable. The actress further added that she works for 10 hours.

What's Happening

  • After Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit over her 8-hour work demand, Genelia Deshmukh recently shared her opinion on the same.
  • Genelia told Zoom, "It is tough but it is not impossible. I do work for 10 hours a day and there are days when the director asks to extend it to 11 or 12 hours. I think it's fair but we just need time to make those adjustments. When you have a day or two where you have to overdo, it's also an understanding and a process that needs to be done."

About Sitaare Zameen Par

Sitaare Zameen Par is a sequel to the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par

The plot of the film revolves around a frustrated basketball coach played by Aamir. He serves community service by training Neurodivergent adults after a DUI. He gains perception in this journey and his outlook towards life changes as he trains these players.

The female lead is Genelia Deshmukh. There are 10 debutantes in the film - Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.

In A Nutshell

Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit had several reasons, some of them being a reasonable 8-hour shift demand, profit-sharing settlement, and a massive paycheck that did not sit well with the director. Since then several people from the film fraternity have been sharing their views on the fair work-hour debate, especially for new working moms. Genelia Deshmukh shared her views on how it can get difficult but is not impossible entirely.

What Pilot Of Delhi-Bound Air India Flight Said Before U-Turn To Hong Kong

A Hong Kong-Delhi Air India flight made a U-turn as a precautionary measure on Monday after nearly an hour of take-off. The captain of Flight AI315 suspected a technical issue and requested to land back at the Hong Kong International Airport.

An audio of the conversation between the pilot and the Air Traffic Control (ATC) was posted on the traffic control monitoring website LiveATC.net. The pilot told the ATC that "for technical reasons, sir, we would like to stay closer to Hong Kong, maybe we will come back to Hong Kong and sort out the problem," according to the audio clip.

"We don't want to continue further," the pilot is heard saying in the same audio clip.

The AI315 took off from Hong Kong at about 12:20 pm, reached a height of 22,000 feet, and then began to drop, as per AirNav Radar.

The aircraft, a Boeing Dreamliner 787-8, returned to Hong Kong International Airport after requesting local standby at 1 pm (0500 GMT) and "landed safely at around 1:15 pm", according to Reuters.

"AI315 operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 16 June 2025 air-returned to Hong Kong shortly after take-off due to a technical issue. The flight landed safely in Hong Kong and is undergoing checks as a matter of abundant precaution," Air India said in a statement.

Alternative arrangements have been planned to fly the passengers to their destination, Delhi, at the earliest, the airline added. "We are providing all necessary on-ground assistance to the passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption," it added.

The Delhi-bound Air India flight's U-turn came days after another Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft, carrying 242 people, crashed onto the doctors' hostel of a medical college in Ahmedabad. At least 274 people, including 241 of the 242 on board the London-bound flight were killed in what was the deadliest aviation disaster in India's history.

The Government of India has constituted a panel to probe the crash. The committee, with senior officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), and independent aviation safety experts, will investigate possible technical failures, maintenance records, and crew actions in the lead-up to the incident.

Denied Ambulance, Man Travels 90 Km In Bus With Newborn's Body In Carry Bag

Sakharam Kavar's voice trembled with deep anguish and helplessness as he recalled the 90-km agonising journey no parent should endure.

Denied ambulance by Nashik Civil Hospital, the tribal man travelled on a state transport bus, carrying the body of his stillborn daughter home in a carry bag.

"I lost my child due to the negligence and apathy of the health system," muttered Sakharam who couldn't get an ambulance to shift his wife, who went into labor, to Khodala PHC on June 11.

The 28-year-old daily wage labourer from the Katkari tribal community lives in a hut in Jogalwadi hamlet in Palghar district, around 200 km from Mumbai.

Until recently, he and his wife Avita, 26, worked at a brick kiln in Badlapur in Thane district with their two children. With their third child due soon, they returned to their village three weeks ago in hopes of a safe delivery.

But on June 11, when Avita went into labor, their ordeal began.

"We called for an ambulance since morning, but no one came," Sakharam said.

The village ASHA worker was initially unavailable. When she tried calling the emergency number 108, she reportedly received no response initially but later arranged a private vehicle to take Avita to Khodala Public Health Centre.

"There was movement in my womb on the way," Avita said, adding that she was kept waiting for more than an hour after reaching the PHC.

She was later referred to Mokhada Rural Hospital. "They isolated me in a room. When my husband protested, they called the police, who beat him," she alleged.

Doctors at Mokhada advised a transfer to Nashik Civil Hospital after they couldn't record the heartbeats of the foetus. Since the ambulance was unavailable, an ambulance was summoned from Aase village, 25 km away.

Avita reached Nashik late in the evening where she delivered a stillborn baby girl around 1:30 a.m. on June 12.

In the morning, the hospital handed over the baby's body to Sakharam, but refused an ambulance to take the body home.

"I went to the ST stand, bought a Rs 20 carry bag, wrapped my baby in cloth, and travelled nearly 90 kilometres in an MSRTC bus," he said. "Nobody asked what I was carrying." The baby was buried in their village the same day.

On June 13, Sakharam returned to Nashik to bring his wife home.

"They again refused an ambulance," he claimed.

Weak and recovering, Avita made the journey back by bus. "They didn't even give her any medicine," Sakharam added.

Dr. Bhausaheb Chattar of Mokhada Rural Hospital confirmed the sequence of events.

"The baby was dead in the womb. The ambulance at our centre had broken down, so we arranged one from Aase. He indeed travelled with the baby's body on a bus," he told PTI.

Chattar also claimed the hospital had offered an ambulance for the return trip, but Sakharam allegedly refused and signed a waiver-something the father denies. He said all possible assistance was provided to the tribal couple.

"I lost my child because of their neglect," Sakharam said quietly.

Absolutely beautiful," Mere continued, adding, "I just feel everyone puts more insane things on the internet than it actually is. This is super nice."

In the caption, the couple wrote, "Welcome to the non-viral side of Delhi. With 22 million people and a heavy reputation, we thought we'd try and limit our time in the capital. Joke's on us. We loved it. (Although it was HOT when the heatwave came)."

Cummins Collides With South Africa Star, Then Uses DRS To Get Him Dismissed

Australia skipper Pat Cummins proved yet again why he is the man made for big stages. In the ICC World Test Championship final against South Africa, Cummins bagged a 6-for on Day 2 of the title-decider, pulling the game in his team's favour. However, en route to a heroic performance, Cummins also found himself in the center of an eventful episode that saw him collide with Proteas star Kyle Verreynne after hitting him on the pads in front of the stumps. However, shortly after, the two bumped against each other and fell down.

After an inswinging delivery from Cummins hit Verreynne, the batter ran for a single while the bowler turned his face towards the umpire and began appealing for LBW. Without realising that the South African batter was also running in the same line, Cummins bumped into him as both fell down.

While the on-field umpire ruled the LBW call in the batter's favour, Cummins decided to make use of DRS. With three reds on the screen, the Australia skipper was rewarded for his performance with another prized scalp.

Cummins finished with figures of 6-28 as he reached 300 career Test wickets and secured a coveted place on the Lord's honours board with a five-wicket haul.

"He does it time and time again," said fellow pacer Mitchell Starc of Cummins. "He led from the front before he was captain, and now as captain as well. The quality and skills he has in his pocket -- I'm thrilled for him to get a bagful. To go to 300 is a special effort."

South Africa lost their last five wickets for 12 runs as Cummins ripped through the batting order.

Only South Africa captain Temba Bavuma (36) and David Bedingham (45) offered meaningful resistance during a fifth-wicket stand of 64.

As the match starts on Day 3, Australia would start on 144/8, with a lead of 218 runs over South Africa.

Finance Ministry eases rules for bonus share issue by companies in FDI-barred sectors

The finance ministry has amended rules to allow Indian companies, engaged in sectors where the foreign direct investment (FDI) is barred, to issue bonus shares to their pre-existing non-resident shareholders. However, the stakes of such shareholders must remain unchanged even after the bonus share issue, the ministry said while notifying the Foreign Exchange Management (Non-debt Instruments) (Amendment) Rules, 2025. The new rules take effect from June 11.The move, experts said, will allow the companies flexibility to go for equity restructuring and also improve capital management without breaching the extant FDI policy. The notification comes after a similar relief was announced in the FDI policy in April by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in April. The ministry has now brought about the change by introducing a new sub-rule in the Foreign Exchange Management (Non-debt Instruments) Rules, 2019.The notification also said any “bonus shares issued to such shareholders prior to the date of commencement of this sub-rule shall be deemed to have been issued in accordance with the provisions of these rules” or some other related regulations. The move is part of the broader government efforts to further liberalise the rules on equity investments to enable India to attract more foreign capital.Sandeep Jhunjhunwala, Sandeep Jhunjhunwala, partner at Nangia Andersen LLP, said the notification makes it clear that “bonus issues done in the past would (also) get a retrospective benefit of this clarificatory amendment”. It also aims to remove any ambiguity over the retrospective application of such a relaxation introduced in the FDI policy by the DPIIT in April, he added. The ambiguity had arisen due to the fact that FDI rule changes are usually implemented prospectively.Finance secretary Ajay Seth had in February told ET that the finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India were in talks to further ease foreign exchange rules, especially with regard to non-debt instruments, and update them to modern standards.Given that sector-specific limits for FDI have already been substantially relaxed, the government is turning its attention to easing restrictive regulations to woo foreign investors amid global headwinds.Having scaled a peak of almost $85 billion in FY22, total FDI inflows into India fell over two years to touch $71 billion in FY24. It again rebounded to $81 billion last fiscal.
