KKR Owner Shah Rukh Khan's Priceless Reaction To Russell's IPL Retirement

Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan shared a heartfelt post for Andre Russell after the latter announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday. After 12 seasons as a player in 'purple and gold', Russell confirmed that he will join KKR's support staff as the franchise's new "Power Coach" for the 2026 season. He will also continue playing in T20 leagues around the world and will remain part of the other Knight Riders teams globally.

Taking to social media after Russell's announcement, Shah Rukh Khan hailed the franchise legend for his contributions to KKR, adding that 'any other jersey would indeed look weird on him'.

"Thank you for the wonderful memories, Andre. Our Knight in shining armour!!! Your contribution to @KKRiders is one for the books... and here's to another chapter in your fantastic journey as a sportsman... The power coach - passing down the wisdom, the muscle and of course the power down to our boys in purple and gold... And yes, any other jersey would indeed look weird on you my man... Muscle Russell for life! Love u... on behalf of the team and everyone who loves the sport!!" the KKR co-owner posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Russell, who has not missed a season of the IPL since 2012, represented erstwhile Delhi Daredevils in his first two editions.

An all-rounder known for his brute force with the bat and a knack of taking wickets at key junctures, Russell played a total of 140 matches in the IPL and scored 2,651 runs at a strike rate of 174.18 with 12 fifties.

He also took 123 wickets at an economy rate of 9.51 with one five-wicket haul in his name.

Russell called time on his IPL playing career a day after Faf du Plessis, 41, announced that he would not take part in this year's edition as he will play in another league.

He was not retained by KKR ahead of the IPL 2026 mini auction.

52 'Sorrys' In 4 Minutes Ignored: Class 8 Boy Jumps From School Building

A Class 8 student, a national-level skating player, attempted suicide by jumping from the third floor of his private school in Dongre Nagar in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam on Friday. The boy, critically injured, was rushed to a private hospital where his condition is now stated to be stable.

According to the school, the student had brought his mobile phone to school on Thursday and recorded a classroom video, which he later uploaded to social media. The school administration discovered the video and called his parents on Friday to discuss the alleged violation of school rules.

School CCTV footage, now part of the investigation, shows the 13-year-old entering the Principal's office. Inside, he spent nearly four minutes repeatedly apologising for his mistake, saying "sorry" 52 times in fear and desperation.

The boy later said that the principal allegedly threatened to "end his career," suspend him, and "take away his medals." The child, already known for his achievements in skating, having represented at the national level twice, reportedly broke down after hearing this.

Moments later, he is seen rushing out of the office, running frantically through the corridor, and suddenly jumping off the third floor.

Shockingly, the boy's father was sitting in the school waiting area at that very moment, unaware of what was unfolding just a few metres away.

"I was invited to meet my son. When I reached the school, I found out he had fallen... He has been to nationals twice in skating. I got a call from the school, but then another call came from the school asking me to come straight to the hospital, the student's father, Pritam Katara, said.

SDM Archie Harit confirmed that the child had brought a phone to school, a violation of school policy, but emphasised that the situation spiralled unexpectedly. "The child is in Class 8. He had brought his phone. He ran and jumped. His condition is stable. An investigation will be conducted. Mobile phones are not allowed in school even teachers' phones are confiscated. He is a skater with a very good national-level position," he said.

The school stated that the administration intended to speak with the boy's father before taking any disciplinary action. However, the rapid chain of events, including the boy's repeated apologies and extreme reaction, has raised serious questions about how the situation was handled.

Pant Out, Tilak In: Gambhir's Philosophy Rejected In India's Predicted XI

Team India face a few selection dilemmas heading into the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. Injuries to captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer have created two major holes in India's top four, leaving room for fringe players to enter. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have brought wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant and top-order batter Ruturaj Gaikwad back into the ODI setup for the three-match series. However, former India cricketer Parthiv Patel chose to leave out both from his predicted XI for the first ODI.

Instead, Parthiv selected Yashasvi Jaiswal to open the batting in Gill's place, and opted for T20I regular Tilak Varma to fill Iyer's shoes at No. 4.

If Tilak does play, it will be his first 50-over international game in nearly two years, having last played in December 2023 against the same opposition. Tilak has played four ODIs till date, slamming one half-century.

Jaiswal, on the other hand, has played only one ODI in his career so far.

Another surprise in the BCCI's squad selection was the omission of Axar Patel and the re-entry of Ravindra Jadeja for the ODI series. Parthiv decided to pick Jadeja in his playing XI, and then suggested that India can choose either one of Washington Sundar or Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Parthiv then selected Kuldeep Yadav, and went with three pacers in the form of Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna.

Parthiv's selection went against head coach Gautam Gambhir's usual strategy of playing multiple all-rounders, as the former wicket-keeper batter chose three frontline pacers and a frontline spinner with only two all-rounders.

KL Rahul is set to lead India in Gill's absence.

Parthiv Patel's India predicted XI for 1st ODI against South Africa: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul (c/wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar/Nitish Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna.

3 Dead, 2 Injured After Fire At Four-Storey Building In Delhi: Cops

Three people died and two women were injured after a massive fire broke out at a footwear shop in south Delhi's Tigri Extension on Saturday evening, police said.

A PCR call about the blaze at the shop on the ground floor of a four-storey building was received at 6.24 following which police rushed to the spot, they said.

On arrival, police found the entire building engulfed in flames, with the fire believed to have started from the footwear shop on the ground floor before spreading upward, a senior police officer said.

Three people were found dead at the spot, while two injured women were rescued from the building and shifted to a hospital, the officer said, adding that their condition is being monitored.

Crime and forensic teams have been called to inspect the site, and evidence is being collected to ascertain the cause of the fire, police said.

Pak Stars Mockingly Appeal After Controversial Call From Umpire vs SL - Watch

The T20I tri-series final between Pakistan and Sri Lanka witnessed a massive controversy over a catch by Fakhar Zaman on Saturday. During the 19th over of the Sri Lanka innings, Dasun Shanaka was foxed by a slower delivery by Shaheen Afridi and Zaman timed his jump perfectly to complete the catch. However, the third umpire decided that the ball was in touch with the ground when the Pakistan cricketer finished the catch. The Pakistan cricket team players were visibly stunned with Fakhar expressing his displeasure. Just one ball later, Afridi clean bowled Shanaka and both the bowler as well as Zaman mockingly appealed towards the third umpire before resuming their celebration.

Coming to the match, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field.

Kamil Mishara was the top scorer with 59 as Sri Lanka were bundled out for 114. Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz took three wickets each while Abrar Ahmed contributed with two dismissals.

Arjun Tendulkar Sends Big IPL Message With Brilliant Bowling Performance

Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, took three wickets in four overs as Goa registered a big win over Chandigarh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Friday. Arjun, who was traded to Lucknow Super Giants from Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2026, looked in brilliant form at Eden Gardens. The left-arm fast bowler troubled the Chandigarh batters constantly and, in his very first over, clean bowled Shivam Bhambri. He followed it up with the wickets of Arjun Azad and Jagjit Singh. The third dismissal came from a brilliant yorker that crashed into the stumps, leaving the batter stunned.

Chasing 174, Chandigarh were bundled out for 121 in 19 overs, with Arjun taking the final catch of the match. He finished with impressive figures of 4-0-17-3, a performance that left both fans and experts impressed.

Meanwhile, Ayush Mhatre's 53-ball 110 not out and India all-rounder Shivam Dube's unbeaten 39 powered Mumbai to a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Vidarbha in their Elite Group A match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.

The defending champions recovered from early blows riding on Mhatre's knock to overhaul the target of 193 with 13 balls to spare, making 194/3 in 17.5 overs at the Ekana Stadium.

The 18-year-old Mhatre peppered the on-side with eight sixes to make his maiden T20 ton.

Mumbai were rocked twice as Darshan Nalkande trapped Ajinkya Rahane (0) in the second over and then they lost Hardik Tamore (1) to slip to 21/2.

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav continued with his return to form with a strokeful 35 off 30 balls, while putting on 88 runs for the third wicket with Mhatre to lead Mumbai's revival.

However, Yash Thakur had Suryakumar caught by Yash Rathod in the 12th over which brought Dube at the crease.

Dube hit three sixes and three fours to make 39 not out from only 19 balls, adding 85 runs from only 35 balls with Mhatre.

Earlier, half-centuries from Atharva Taide (64) and Aman Mokhade (61) took Vidarbha to a formidable 192 for nine.

Openers Taide and Mokhade set the platform for Vidarbha with their 115-run stand inside the first 10 overs, but yet they finished under 200.

Taide made 64 off 36 balls with nine fours and a six, whereas Mokhade displayed his all-round game to hit two sixes and seven fours in his 61 off only 30 balls. But courtesy Dube's 3/31 and Sairaj Patil's 3/33, Mumbai were able to keep Vidarbha to 192 for nine.

UP Man Thrashes Wife, Leaves Home. Then She Video Calls Him, Hangs Herself

What started as a love story ended in a tragedy in Uttar Pradesh.

A woman died by suicide during a video call with her husband after a fight between them in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on Wednesday.

The man, Shubham Diwakar, was an alcoholic. When he returned home in the Ramlala Mohalla area of Rawatpur from work on Wednesday evening, he asked his wife, Mona, for money to buy alcohol. When she refused, an enraged Diwakar beat her up brutally. After the assault, he took the money from her and left the house to drink.

Sixteen minutes later, a weeping Mona allegedly made a WhatsApp video call to him and hung herself in front of him. Diwakar allegedly rushed home to save her, but the door was locked from the inside. The door was broken down by the police who arrived at the spot after being informed by the neighbours. By then, she had already died. The officials also gave her CPR in an attempt to revive her but to no avail.

Mona and Shubham Diwakar had a love marriage seven years ago. She is survived by her husband and two children. Diwakar used to work at a private company, and she worked as a 'welcome girl', who greeted guests at wedding functions, to support the family.

When her friends, who worked with her, received the news of her death, they rushed outside the postmortem house where her body was taken. The angry women surrounded Mona's husband and beat him up. The commotion continued for about two hours. Mona's friends also accused Diwakar of deleting all call history from Mona's mobile phone to destroy evidence.

Rawatpur police station in-charge Manoj Mishra said Mona's family has not filed any complaint so far. If any complaint is received, appropriate action will be taken, he said.

The neighbours of the couple, meanwhile, have claimed that Diwakar used to torture her often after drinking.

Gill Breaks Silence After Gambhir-Coached India's 408-Run Loss To SA

Skipper Shubman Gill, who missed the second Test due to a neck injury, struck a defiant tone of unity and resolve after India's 0-2 series loss to South Africa, saying the team would "rise stronger" despite the setback. The two-Test series ended in humiliation for India as South Africa completed a clean sweep, defeating the hosts by 408 runs in the second Test at Guwahati -- their first series win on Indian soil in 25 years. South Africa had defeated India in the opening Test in Kolkata by 30 runs.

The loss triggered widespread criticism and discussion around the team's performance and leadership with fans booing coach Gautam Gambhir. "Calm seas don't teach you how to steer, it's the storm that forges steady hands. We'll continue to believe in each other, fight for each other, and move forward - rising stronger," Gill wrote in 'X' on Wednesday.

Gill had retired hurt on four after suffering neck spasm in India's first innings of the Eden Test.

He was subsequently hospitalized and ruled out of the rest of the match.

Gill had travelled to Guwahati but was released on the eve of the Test.

Gautam Gambhir didn't blame any individual for the debilitating 408-run defeat against South Africa in the second Test but dropped enough hints that he was livid with India's stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant for "playing to the gallery".

Gambhir's par-for-the course fiery post-match press conference had one anomaly though -- he was a bundle of contradictions through and through those 15 odd minutes.

India were 95 for one, but things went downhill from thereon with the hosts left stuttering at 122 for seven, largely due to Marco Jansen's exploits with the red cherry.

Pant gave charge to Jansen when he needed to show some discretion, and that shot possibly was the worst of all the dismissals.

After the 0-2 series defeat, Gambhir was asked if he would have expected better from Pant, who is now one short of 50 Test matches.

"You don't blame one individual shot. You don't blame one individual playing in a certain way. You blame everyone. So, me talking about an individual, I've never done that. I am not going to do it," Gambhir said in a no-nonsense manner after fronting up at the media conference.

He was very clear that he didn't want to "brush things under the carpet".

"Full Confidence In Security": Israel After Netanyahu's India Visit Deferred

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office has clarified that they are working to 'coordinate a new visit date' to India amid reports of his visit being postponed due to security concerns.

In a post on X, Netanyahu's office wrote that, "The PM has full confidence in India's security under PM Modi, and teams are already coordinating a new visit date."

The post explained, "Israel's bond with India" and the relationship between the prime ministers of both nations are "very strong".

According to an Israeli media report, the trip was delayed over security concerns after the deadly terror attack in New Delhi two weeks ago, the worst there in more than a decade, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens.

"Netanyahu, who last visited India in 2018 and was set to return for meetings with PM Modi, is now expected to seek a new date next year pending security assessments," i24NEWS had reported, quoting sources.

According to reports, Netanyahu was planning to visit India by the end of the year. However, this will be the third time this year that the Israeli leader has cancelled a visit to India.

The last time Netanyahu was in India was 7 years ago. On a six-day trip from January 14 to 19 in 2018, it was the second visit by an Israeli Prime Minister to India.

After the Red Fort blast, Netanyahu had offered condolences to PM Modi and to the people of India.

In a statement shared on X, Netanyahu called India and Israel ancient civilisations that stand on eternal truths and emphasised that terror strikes will never shake the strong resolve of people from both countries.

"To our dear friend Narendra Modi and to the brave people of India: Sara and I, and the people of Israel, send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims. Israel stands strong with you in sorrow and in strength in this time," Israeli Prime Minister's Office posted on X.

"India and Israel are ancient civilizations that stand on eternal truths. Terror may strike our cities, but it will never shake our souls. The light of our nations will outshine the darkness of our enemies," it added.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met Netanyahu on Sunday during his three-day visit to Israel.

"Arunachal Inalienable Part Of India": Foreign Ministry Slams China's Remark

India on Tuesday issued one of its strongest recent statements against China after an Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh was harassed, detained for over 18 hours, and denied normal transit procedures at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport.

The incident, which was already raising diplomatic concerns, was further inflamed by a controversial statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, which once again challenged India's sovereignty over Arunachal Pradesh.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi sharply rejected Beijing's claims. It condemned the treatment of the Indian citizen, calling the episode a clear violation of international norms as well as China's own immigration regulations.

"Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India"

Responding to media queries, the Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reaffirmed New Delhi's unequivocal stance on Arunachal Pradesh.

"Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India, and this is a self-evident fact. No amount of denial by the Chinese side is going to change this indisputable reality," he said.

The spokesperson confirmed that the Ministry had lodged a strong protest with China both in Beijing and New Delhi, pointing out that the Chinese authorities had failed to justify the arbitrary treatment of the passenger, who was legally transiting through the country on a valid Indian passport.

Violation of International Aviation Rules

The Ministry said China's actions were not only indefensible but also directly contravened internationally accepted protocols.

"Chinese authorities have still not been able to explain their actions, which are in violation of several conventions governing international air travel," the spokesperson said, referring specifically to the Chicago and Montreal Conventions that govern civil aviation standards.

He further highlighted that China had violated its own rules, noting that Chinese immigration normally permits visa-free transit of up to 24 hours for citizens of all countries.

In this case, however, officials inexplicably targeted the passenger's birthplace, Arunachal Pradesh, claiming it belonged to China, and declared her Indian passport "invalid."

The Ordeal: 18 Hours of Detention Over a Birthplace

The passenger, Prema Wang Thongdok, who hails from Rupa in West Kameng district and currently lives in the UK, was travelling from London to Japan on November 21 with a scheduled three-hour layover in Shanghai. Her routine transit turned into a harrowing ordeal.

Thongdok later took to X to detail what happened: "I was held at Shanghai airport for over 18 hrs on 21st Nov, 2025... They called my Indian passport invalid as my birthplace is Arunachal Pradesh which they claimed is Chinese territory."

Despite carrying all valid travel documents, she was allegedly denied free passage, given conflicting instructions, and only released after prolonged questioning during which she said her documents were repeatedly challenged and invalidated on political grounds.

China Denies Harassment, Repeats Territorial Claim

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning denied any wrongdoing, insisting the passenger "was not subjected to any compulsory measures, detainment or harassment." Mao said airport officials acted "according to laws and regulations," and claimed the airline had provided the passenger "food, water, and a place to rest."

However, Mao's comments escalated tensions when she reiterated Beijing's territorial claim:

"Zangnan is China's territory. China never acknowledged the so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally set up by India."

This remark drew immediate criticism from India, which said Beijing was once again attempting to distort established facts and politicize a routine travel process.

New Delhi's Strong Diplomatic Pushback

Government sources told NDTV that India issued a strong demarche in both capitals on the very day of the incident. The Indian Consulate in Shanghai also intervened and assisted the stranded passenger.

Officials stressed that the detention was based on "ludicrous grounds" and undermined efforts by both nations to stabilise bilateral ties.

"At a time when both sides are working on restoring normalcy, such actions by the Chinese side introduce unnecessary obstructions to the process," sources noted.

A Diplomatic Flashpoint with Wider Implications

The episode has reignited concerns about China's growing efforts to enforce political claims through administrative or immigration channels. Analysts warn that Beijing's decision to target travellers based on their Indian birthplace raises worrying precedents and risks escalating already strained relations.

For now, New Delhi has made its position unmistakably clear: harassment of Indian citizens, especially under the guise of territorial claims, will not be tolerated, and Arunachal Pradesh's status is not open for debate.

Celina Says She Was Forced Out Of Her Home Three Weeks After Childbirth

Actor Celina Jaitly has approached a Mumbai court with a detailed domestic violence complaint against her husband, Peter Haag. Filed under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, the petition outlines claims of emotional, physical, sexual, and verbal abuse.

Allegations Of Abuse

According to SCREEN, the petition, drafted by Karanjawala & Co., Celina has accused Peter Haag of repeatedly belittling her through racist comments. The document states that he allegedly referred to her as a "maidservant" and claimed she resembled his maid. These remarks, the petition notes, formed a pattern of humiliation that compounded the emotional strain she was already facing.

The petition also alleges that during a period marked by profound personal tragedies-including the death of her infant son, Samshera, in 2017, and the loss of both her parents-Peter exerted pressure on Celina to transfer her Mumbai residence into his name.

At the time, she was reportedly battling severe depression.

One of the most harrowing episodes detailed in the petition describes an incident that took place just three weeks after Celina gave birth.

According to the document, "Her stitches had not healed, she was barely able to walk... at three weeks post-partum, she asked her husband if he could consider extending his paternity leave until her stitches had healed and help her with the children. However, he once again flew into a rage and called Celina thankless. He grabbed her by the wrist and physically pushed her out of the apartment, saying, 'Get out of my life.' Celina was left stranded in the hallway in breastfeeding clothing... A neighbour saw the actress and rushed to her rescue."

Separation, Legal Battle, And Celina's Plea

The petition states that the alleged pattern of emotional and physical violence ultimately pushed Celina to leave Austria in the middle of the night, returning to India without her three children.

After coming back, she reportedly learned that Peter had initiated legal proceedings concerning the transfer of her Mumbai property, while also restricting her ability to contact their children. According to the petition, she has only been granted interaction with them once, on November 14 this year.

While Celina's husband has initiated divorce proceedings in Austria, the actress is currently seeking Rs 10 lakh per month in alimony, along with Rs 50 crore as compensation for loss of earnings. The couple, who married in a private ceremony in Mumbai, share three children-twins Viraaj and Winston, born in 2012, and their younger son Arthur, born in 2017.

Following the filing of her case, Celina took to Instagram with a deeply emotional message. "#courage #divorce | In the middle of the strongest most turbulent storm of my life I never imagined I would spend fighting alone, without any parents, without any support system I never thought there would come a day without all the pillars on which the roof of my world once rested, my parents, my brother, my children, & the one who promised to stand by me, love me, care for me, & bear every trouble with me," she wrote.

Celina has declined to comment further, maintaining that the matter remains sub judice.

Merit-Based: Omar Abdullah On Admission Of Muslims In J&K Medical College

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has defended the admission of Muslim students to Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College and said merit, not religion, must be followed by the college. The BJP has issued strong objections to the move.

Abdullah said the university has been established by an act of the J&K Assembly and doesn't restrict admission on basis of religion. "When the Assembly passed the bill to establish Mata Vaishno Devi University, where was it written that boys and girls of one religion would be excluded?" Abdullah said.

There is a raging controversy over the admission of Muslim students in the Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence. Following protests by right-wing groups in Jammu, the BJP has strongly opposed the admission of Muslim students and submitted a memorandum to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, urging him to roll back their admissions.

The BJP and several right-wing groups have argued that since the college has been established by the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and built through donations made by Hindus, seats should be exclusively reserved for Hindus who have faith in Vaishno Devi.

"It is not acceptable to the people of the country that students from a particular community get admission in the college," said Sunil Sharma, Leader of the Opposition in the J&K Assembly.
"We have conveyed the sentiments and anguish of the people to the Lt Governor. Only those students should be given admission in the medical college who have faith in Mata Vaishno Devi," he added.
42 Muslim students in Vaishno Devi Institute

Official sources say the Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence is not classified as a minority institution and therefore, the admission process was done as per the guidelines of the National Medical Council and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) list.

In Jammu and Kashmir, there are 13 medical colleges and the Vaishno Devi medical college has started its first batch this year.
While admissions are based on the NEET merit list, with 85 per cent seats reserved for domiciles, of the 50 seats, only 8 Hindu students from Jammu have taken admission.

The Chief Minister has cautioned that if religion becomes a factor in institutional decisions, it may well influence other areas of governance.
Abdullah asked the BJP to go through the Act and the bill passed by the J&K Assembly. Neither have any clauses that allows the distribution of medical seats on religious lines.

"In the Act, it is stated that admission will be based on merit, not religion. Now, when admissions follow merit, some people are unhappy," the Chief Minister said.

Bihar Over, Rahul Gandhi And BJP Clash Over Bengal's New SIR Frontline

After the intense battles fought on the plains of Bihar and in the Supreme Court, the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise frontline has moved to West Bengal, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress has already started opposing the Election Commission's initiative to clean-up the voter rolls.

The Congress, too, is one of the opposition parties that have severely criticised the SIR; some Congress leaders even faulted the SIR for the party's bad show in the Bihar assembly election.

On Sunday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi led the opposition's battle formation on the SIR in Bengal.

"Under the guise of SIR, chaos has been unleashed across the country - the result? In three weeks, 16 BLOs [booth level officers] have lost their lives. Heart attacks, stress, suicides - SIR is no reform, it's an imposed tyranny," Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X.

"SIR is a calculated ploy - where citizens are being harassed and the deaths of BLOs from unnecessary pressure are dismissed as collateral damage. This is not a failure, it's a conspiracy - a sacrifice of democracy to protect those in power," Gandhi alleged.

The Opposition had done everything it could to stall or stop the SIR in Bihar, from going to the Supreme Court to mass protests. But it did not have much to say when the Election Commission gave a simple explanation that voter rolls have to be updated from time to time. There is no conspiracy in this, the EC maintains.

Not only Bengal, even states in the northeast that share borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh and have traditionally had issues with illegal immigrants are also getting ready to carry out the SIR.

The Trinamool Congress has scheduled a meeting on Monday to be chaired by general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for discussions on the SIR. Mamata Banerjee has said she will meet members of the Matua community in Bongaon, North 24 Parganas, on Tuesday to educate people about the SIR and to ensure no one gets left out unfairly.

The BJP in Bengal has attacked Mamata Banerjee and her party over their attempt to create a buzz of controversy around the SIR.

Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday asked BLOs in the state to follow the directives of the Election Commission in letter and spirit so that not a single unauthorised voter is included in the draft rolls after the SIR exercise ends.

At a public event in Nandigram, Adhikari referred to a "few BLOs" allegedly showing allegiance to the ruling Trinamool Congress and "trying to do things in favour of one political party".

"Not a single genuine citizen of the state, nor the BLOs or BLAs of political parties including the BJP, are apprehensive about SIR or fear being sent to detention camps as they see through the false narrative of Mamata Banerjee and her men," he said.

Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose took a more conciliatory approach with an appeal to all parties to let the Election Commission and the state government address the public's concerns over the SIR.

"There are various fears among people about SIR. Incidents like suicide have happened. In this context, the Election Commission and the state government should meet more to allay people's fears about SIR," the Governor said.

Boosted by the huge win in Bihar, the BJP has expressed confidence that the Bihar wave will sweep across Bengal in the assembly election scheduled early next year.

'You Have Votes, I Have Funds': Ajit Pawar's 'Threat' To Voters In Malegaon

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar set the cat among the pigeons while campaigning for local elections when he appeared to threaten voters, saying he would release funds he had promised only if all of his party's candidates were elected.

Addressing a rally for the Nagar Panchayat elections at Malegaon in Baramati tehsil on Friday, the NCP chief, who also holds the Finance portfolio, said the party had fielded 18 candidates.

"The Centre and the state have many schemes. The Prime Minister, chief minister and both deputy chief ministers have worked on these together. If all of us work together and implement these schemes properly, we can ensure development for Malegaon," Pawar said.

"I will ensure there is no shortage of funds if you elect all 18 NCP candidates. If you elect all of them, I will fulfil whatever I have promised. But if you 'cut' my candidates, I will also "cut" (the funds). You have the power to vote, and I have the power to release funds. Now decide what you want to do," he said.

The Opposition slammed the deputy chief minister's remarks and also wondered why the Election Commission has not taken any action.

"Funds are given from the taxes paid by the common people and not from Ajit Pawar's house. If a leader like Pawar is threatening voters, what is the Election Commission doing?" Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasheb BT) leader Ambadas Danve was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Elections for Nagar Panchayats will be held on December 2.

Earlier Remarks

This is not the first time Pawar has landed himself in hot water with his comments. In January, he was scheduled to address a public meeting in his Assembly constituency of Baramati when he was handed memoranda with demands.

An angry Pawar had then said, "You have voted for me, but that doesn't mean you own me."

In September, Pawar had sparked a controversy when he was accused of threatening a woman police officer who was cracking down on illegal excavation in Solapur.

The officer, who had been posted to Maharashtra only recently, was handed a phone by an NCP worker and told Pawar was on the line. She informed the deputy chief minister she did not recognise his voice and asked him to call on her cellphone.

"Main tere upar action lunga (I will act against you). Tujhe mujhe dekhna hai na? Tera number de do ya WhatsApp call karo. Mera chehra toh aapko samajh mein aaega na? (You want to see me, right? Give me your number or call me on WhatsApp. You will recognise my face, right?)... Itna aapko daring hua hai kya (How dare you?)," he asked the officer, before video-calling her and asking her to stop the action she was taking.

Pawar had later claimed he was not threatening the officer or interfering with the law, but was trying to prevent an escalation in the situation on the ground.

In 2013, the NCP leader had mocked a farmer who had been on a hunger strike for nearly two months, demanding water be released from a dam in the drought-hit state.

"There is this person from Solapur, sitting on hunger strike for 55 days, demanding water be released from the dam. But where are we going to get water from? Should we urinate? And when we don't have water to drink, it's hard to pass urine as well," he had said.

'What Are They Smoking?' India A Blasted For Suryavanshi's Super Over Snub

In a baffling turn during the semi-final of the Rising Stars Asia Cup 2025 in Doha, the management of India A left 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi stranded in the dug-out during the Super Over, even after his explosive 38 off 15 in the match proper. The decision saw India A crash out to Bangladesh A without scoring in the tie-breaker, prompting former India pacer Dodda Ganesh to publicly lambast the leadership with a blunt "What are these guys smoking?" reaction on X.

India A, captained by Jitesh Sharma, were knocked out of the tournament after facing Bangladesh A in what should have been a straightforward Super Over. The main match saw Bangladesh A post 194/6 in 20 overs, powered by opener Habibur Rahman Sohan's 65 and a fiery 48 off 18 from SM Meherob. India A responded with a blazing 50-run opening burst in just 19 deliveries, largely thanks to Suryavanshi's assault of two fours and five sixes. His wicket, however, swung the momentum back to Bangladesh's way. India A's chase came down to the last-ball, in which the side needed four runs but scored three.

In the Super Over, the management went with Jitesh Sharma and Ramandeep Singh as the two hitters, leaving Suryavanshi out. Jitesh was dismissed first ball by a perfect yorker from Ripon Mondal, and Ashutosh Sharma - who came in next - fell on the very first ball he faced. India A thus set a target of one run and Bangladesh A reached home with a wicket in hand.

Ganesh didn't hold back in his social-media blast:

"Not sending Vaibhav Suryavamshi to bat in the Super over? What are these guys smoking?

This pointed critique puts pressure on India A's management to justify their game-time decisions in critical moments.

In the post-match remarks, captain Jitesh claimed the choice was made because he, Ashutosh and Ramandeep were "good hitters at the death". He said that factored into excluding Suryavanshi from the equation.

Bengaluru Man Kills Younger Brother In Car, Dumps Body In Lake

A 24-year-old man was killed by his elder brother along with the help of two others inside a car and the body was thrown into a lake in Bengaluru, the police said.

Dhanaraj, 24, had a history of violent and criminal behaviour, and his elder brother Shivaraj, 28, was no longer able to tolerate it, the police said. Both are residents of Kalaburagi district.

Shivaraj, who drives a cab to make a living, allegedly planned the murder along with his friends Sandeep, 24, and Prashanth, 26.

The police said Dhanaraj lived with his parents in their home district. He was involved in multiple thefts, drinking, and frequent fights, the elder brother told the police.

Dhanaraj often assaulted his parents and had even attacked his elder brother when questioned about his behaviour.

Their neighbours, too, frequently complained about Dhanaraj's thefts, including stealing mobile phones and livestock.

Unable to endure continuous harassment at home, Shivaraj reportedly decided to kill his brother. On November 2, he called Dhanaraj to Bengaluru on the pretext of helping him find a job.

The three men picked him up from Bannerghatta-NICE Road in Bengaluru. Dhanaraj was in the front passenger seat. While occupied with his mobile phone, Sandeep and Prashanth allegedly grabbed him from behind. At that moment, Shivaraj struck him on the neck with a machete, killing him inside the vehicle.

They dumped the body along the Bannerghatta–Kaggalipura road and got rid of the car's floor mat and the machete near the Electronic City-NICE Road,

On November 6, the decomposed body was discovered, initially leading police to suspect an unnatural but not necessarily criminal death. However, CCTV footage from a nearby private company showed the car stopping and the body being dumped, providing crucial evidence.

Tracing the vehicle number, Bannerghatta police arrested all the three accused. A case of murder has been filed, and the accused have been sent to judicial custody.

Sarfaraz "Not Even Being Allowed To Fail": Questions Raised On Selectors

Sarfaraz Khan's long absence from the Indian Test team has raised quite a few eyebrows. Several former players feel that the Mumbai batter, who has not played a Test since November 2024, deserves a chance in the squad. Former India player Aakash Chopra believes Sarfaraz has fallen victim to a perception battle. The 28-year-old has so far played six Tests, scoring 371 runs at an average of 37.10. He has three fifties and one century to his name.

"I think there is a clarity issue in the case of Sarfaraz. I think it is a case of perception and understanding. I am trying to think-they might have a perception that he may not do as well in swinging conditions or play fast bowling well. Maybe he is not our guy in SENA countries. So he did not get the chance. But even to make that perception, I have to allow him to fail. He is not even being allowed to fail. And now there is no place in the team as well," Chopra said on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel.

The former India star also spoke about Yashasvi Jaiswal not playing T20Is for India. With Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill being the first-choice openers, Jaiswal has not found a consistent spot in the XI. He said it was unfair. In 23 T20Is, the left-hander has scored 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and a strike rate of 164.31. He has one T20I century and five fifties.

"Jaiswal is a premier player in the Indian team as well. He will be there in the ODI and T20I teams in the near future too. You can cover the sunlight with some clouds for a while, but you cannot hide it. At this point in time, it is unfair to Jaiswal, I will agree (not being in the white-ball teams). I feel he will be in the T20 World Cup squad. I don't think the team playing now is the final team," he said.

He also suggested that Jaiswal should be made captain of the Rajasthan Royals. "You cannot ask for captaincy in your state team. It is not player-centric. But a franchise will have to be player-centric at times because it is a game of supply and demand. How many like Jaiswal are available? If you can maximise that asset and need to give him captaincy to do that, I would say please do it. As long as it is clear that the team will get better by that player becoming captain, give it to them even if they demand it," Aakash Chopra said.

US tourism expected to score big

International tourism to the U.S. could get a much-needed boost from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a sluggish 2025, when visitors stayed away amid unease over President Donald Trump's trade policies and concerns about tougher border scrutiny.Foreign visitation to the U.S. was down 4% year to date through July, according to visa data from the National Travel and Tourism Office. Travel data company Tourism Economics projects a full-year decline of about 6.3% in 2025.That could reverse next year, when the world's biggest sporting event is expected to draw over a million visitors as it kicks off across 16 host cities in North America, 11 of which are in the U.S.The World Cup, which will take place from June 11 to July 19, could account for roughly one in three additional foreign visitors to the U.S. in 2026, Tourism Economics estimates.FLIGHTS, LODGING FOR TOURNAMENT IN DEMANDSearches for flights and lodging around the tournament dates are up nearly 70% from the same period in 2025, said Jaroslaw Grabczak, head of commercial product at Poland-based online travel agency eSky.He also estimates that prices for stays could rise 30% in the early days of the event, and as much as 60% in the final few days of matches.Projections from various sources put the number of foreign visitors anywhere between 1 million and 6 million. A joint report by FIFA and the World Trade Organization is also expecting international travelers to stay for an average 12 days, buy two tickets per person and spend about $416 daily.Airbnb expects about 232,000 guests to use its platform to book stays in U.S. host cities, with each spending around $142 per night, a survey commissioned by the vacation rental company shows. But not every city will score equally. The official draw on December 5 will set the match schedule and venues for key games, which will shape demand patterns across host cities, especially as some of the 48 teams have far larger followings than others.ENGLAND, FRANCE, BRAZIL HAVE BIG FAN BASESAccounting for fan base size and historic visitation to events among other factors, matches involving England, France, Brazil, Argentina and Portugal are expected to generate above-average travel demand in host cities, Tourism Economics economist Laura Baxter said."If your city hosts one of these teams, expect heavy demand," said Sebastien Long, president of the Texas Short-Term Rental Association and CEO of vacation rental firm Lodgeur."Fans travel even without tickets because they want to be where their team is and watch the match with other supporters, whether in a fan zone or a bar," he added.Notably, nationals of 22 participating teams - including Brazil, Argentina and Mexico - do not qualify for the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, which could deter travel among their fans. However, President Donald Trump has said that the U.S. would expedite visas for foreign visitors with tickets to matches.

Robbers In Bengaluru Pose As Tax Officers, Loot Crores From Cash Van

In a major daylight robbery in Bengaluru, a group of armed men posing as RBI officers intercepted an ATM cash-loading vehicle near the Ashoka Pillar and looted more than Rs 7 crores.

The CMS cash van was transporting money from the JP Nagar branch of HDFC Bank when a Toyota Innova suddenly blocked its way. The occupants of Innova approached the CMS staff and claimed they were from the RBI and said that they needed to verify documents.

Before the cash van staff could react, the suspects forcibly shifted them along with the cash into their Innova car. The gang then drove towards Dairy Circle, where they abandoned the CMS staff and fled with the money. Police said the van had Rs 7.11 crores.

South Division Police have formed special teams and launched an intensive search to identify and arrest the culprits. Preliminary investigations indicate the involvement of a well-organised gang.

The CMS cash van staff who were inside the Innova had delayed in informing the police about the incident. Four of them have been taken to the police station and are being questioned.

"We have information that about Rs 7 crores have been robbed. Checkpoints have been put up across the city, and multiple teams have been formed, who are working on and off the ground," said Bengaluru police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh.

"Three DCPs and one joint commissioner is handling the case, I can share exact details later, but we know that cash was shifted from this CMS vehicle to another, we are awaiting clear cut details, we are trying to ascertain why the security didn't use their weapons and also why they delayed in informing the police, we are looking into all these angles," he added.

Al Falah University Founder Arrested In Money Laundering Case

Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, the founder of Al Falah University - the epicentre of terror module behind the Delhi blast, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a terror financing-linked money laundering case on Tuesday.

He was taken into custody under the criminal provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The probe agency investigation follows two FIRs filed recently by the Delhi Police Crime Branch against Al-Falah University, including cases related to cheating and alleged forgery concerning accreditation documents.

The university in Faridabad's Dhouj has come under scrutiny after the arrest of several doctors in connection with the November 10 blast near Delhi's Red Fort, which killed 15 people and injured many others. The suicide bomber, Dr Umar Un Nabi, a Kashmiri resident, was associated with the varsity.

The arrest follows a detailed investigation and analysis of evidence gathered during the search action conducted at university premises in connection with the Al Falah Group, the central agency stated in a statement.

The probe agency conducted search operations at 19 locations in Delhi, including the premises of Al Falah University and residential premises of key persons of Al Falah group.

"Evidence reveals that crores of rupees have been diverted by the trust to family owned entities. For example, the construction as well as catering contracts were given by trust/Jawad Ahmad to entities of his wife and children," the agency said.

During search, the agency said, cash of over 48 lakhs, multiple digital devices and documentary evidence were found and seized.

"Multiple shell companies of the group have been identified. Numerous violations under several other Acts have also been detected," the agency said.

The probe agency is examining alleged violations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), including possible diversion of funds and suspicious financial transactions routed through entities associated with the university.

"The entire Al-Falah group has seen a meteoric rise since the 1990s metamorphosing into a large educational body. However, the rise is not backed by adequate financials," the probe agency, which investigates financial crimes, said.

"Exhaustive evidence including recovery of cash from trustees' diversion of funds to family concern, layering of funds etc. clearly establish the pattern of generation and layering of proceeds of crime," the agency said.

The blast followed after the authorities recently busted the 'white-collar' terror module linked to terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, spanning Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The investigation led to the seizure of around 2,900 kg of explosive material from two rented rooms in Faridabad, and the arrest/detention of several individuals, including doctors connected to the Al Falah University, and a cleric linked to a mosque in Faridabad.

Sheikh Hasina Death Sentence Is Illegal, Unimplementable, Untenable: Sources

Serious legal, constitutional, and procedural lapses have raised profound concerns about the validity of the death sentence handed down to ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by the International Crimes Tribunal-Bangladesh (ICT-B).

According to sources, the proceedings were marked by constitutional violations, questionable judicial appointments, prosecutorial bias, restricted defence rights, rushed timelines, mass politically-charged cases, and an environment incompatible with a fair trial.

Fundamental Flaws In The Tribunal's Legal Basis

A Tribunal Built On An Outdated Framework

The ICT-B was created under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act of 1973, a law designed specifically to prosecute genocide and crimes committed during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. Its framework was never intended for events outside that historical context.

Invalid Amendments After August 5, 2024

The amendments made after 5 August 2024, through an Ordinance, are considered invalid ab-initio because the executive was not duly appointed and Parliament had not approved the changes, the President lacked constitutional authority to issue such an Ordinance under Article 93.

The dissolution of Parliament itself was procedurally improper, compromising the legitimacy of all subsequent legal actions.

Unconstitutional Appointment Of Judges

Judiciary Was Forced Into Resignations

On 10 August 2024, the Chief Justice and five Appellate Division judges were forced to resign after a student mob surrounded the Supreme Court and issued an "ultimatum."

Improper Appointments To The Tribunal

The current three ICT-B judges were appointed in violation of constitutional procedures:
    •    Chairman Golam Mortuza Majumder, initially a retired district judge, was made a High Court judge only six days before the ICT announced it would take up the cases.
    •    Mohitul Haque Mohammed Enam Chowdhury, a retired District and Sessions Judge, and
    •    Shafiul Alam Mahmud, a lawyer newly made a High Court judge,
were both elevated to permanent positions without the two-year probationary requirement mandated by Article 98 of the Constitution.

22 judges aligned with Jamaat-e-Islami were elevated irregularly within a year.

Lack Of Relevant Expertise

None of the ICT-B judges have prior experience with international criminal law, an essential competency in crimes against humanity trials.

Questions Of Partisanship

Shafiul Alam Mahmud's known association with the Bangladesh National Party (BNP), including his 2019 election to the Supreme Court Bar Association on a BNP slate, raises further concerns of political bias within the tribunal.

Prosecution And Defence Were Engineered For A Pre-Determined Outcome

Prosecutorial Bias And Conflicts Of Interest

The appointment of Mohammed Tajul Islam as Chief Prosecutor raised immediate concerns.
He was earlier the chief lawyer for war criminals in trials before the International Crimes and appears to have been appointed by the Jamaat-e-Islami purely for retribution.

Similarly, the appointment of Toby Cadman, who also defended Jamaat leaders in earlier war crimes trials, as Special Adviser to the Chief Prosecutor of the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal suggests a punitive political agenda.

A Rushed And Pre-Set Timeline

On 18 November 2024, despite the gravity of charges, including genocide, the ICT ordered completion of the investigation within one month, reinforcing suspicions that both charges and verdict were pre-determined.

Denial Of The Right To Counsel

Sheikh Hasina consistently stated she was denied the right to lawyers of her choice.

The state-appointed defence lawyer, Md Amir Hossain, admitted openly, "I did not attempt to (communicate with Sheikh Hasina). There is no provision allowing such an attempt... They also did not try to contact me, nor did they provide any form of assistance."

He also has no background in international criminal law.

In August 2025, senior Bangladesh Supreme Court lawyer Z.I. Khan Panna attempted to represent Hasina at the International Crimes Tribunal, but the Tribunal rejected the application during the testimony stage.

Conflict Of Interest In Defence Representation

The same state lawyer was appointed to defend both Sheikh Hasina and the former Home Minister, raising serious ethical conflicts.

Insufficient Time To Prepare

The state lawyer received the full set of prosecution evidence only on 25 June 2025, about five weeks before trial. Despite voluminous evidence, no request for additional preparation time was filed, leading legal analysts to question the seriousness of defence attorneys.

Restrictions On Cross-Examination

Prosecutors used a 2013 judgment from the Quader Mollah case to bar defence attempts to cross-examine witnesses on contradictions.

Ironically, the same prosecutors had once argued against such limitations during Jamaat trials.

During the prosecution of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, when such an instance occurred, the defence team which included the Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam and others who are part of the prosecutors team, argued strongly against the defence.

Denial Of Appeal Rights

After the verdict, the defence lawyer stated he could not file an appeal as his clients are absconding. "If they are arrested or surrender before the tribunal, only then can an appeal be filed", he said. He also added that the Tribunal denied him access to a copy of the verdict.

Trial In Absence Of The Accused

Legal experts argue that conducting a trial without the accused present violates basic norms of justice, especially when capital punishment is awarded.

A Compressed Trial Timeline

The trial ran from 3 August to 23 October 2025, with testimony ending on 8 October, a surprisingly short duration for a case involving complex evidence, numerous witnesses, and allegations of crimes against humanity.

Specious And Politically-Charged Cases

Mass Murder And Abduction Charges Without Due Process

Since 5 August 2024, thousands of politically-linked murder and other serious cases have been filed against Awami League officials, activists, journalists, and lawyers.

These include:
    •    200+ cases against Sheikh Hasina alone
    •    1170+ cases naming almost 400 former ministers, Members of Parliament, and leaders
    •    Many cases filed against unnamed individuals and often the same people being charged in multiple cases at multiple locations on the same day

Suppression Of Free Speech

On 5 December 2024, the ICT sought to ban media dissemination of Hasina's remarks, even before trials began.

Arbitrary Arrests

Arrests were carried out without warrants or proper legal procedures.

No charges appear to have been filed against human rights violations and systematic excesses that have taken place after August 5, 2024 under the watch of the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement. Attempts appear to have been made to white-wash them under the specious plea of 'political violence'.

Meanwhile, individuals linked to Jamaat-e-Islami and extremist groups, including convicted terrorist Lutfozamaan Babar and Jashimuddin Rahmani, were released or granted bail.

Reports allege 11 custodial deaths of Awami League-affiliated individuals since August 2024.

Lack Of Forensics And Security Failures

Forensic inconsistencies were observed, including bullets not matching police weapons.
Multiple attacks on arrested Awami League leaders, accused persons and lawyers within court premises, such as on Salman Rahman and Dipu Moni, further restricted a fair trial.

Prosecutorial Statements Revealed Bias Before Trial

Before trial proceedings even began, senior officials made statements indicating Hasina's fate was already sealed.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammed Tajul Islam on 17 October 2024, said, "The court has ordered the arrest of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and to produce her in court on 18 November. Sheikh Hasina was at the helm of those who committed massacres, killings and crimes against humanity from July to August. It is a remarkable day for us."

IT Advisor Nahid Islam on 21 October 2024, said, "I want to tell everyone that Hasina will not be able to return to Bangladesh to do politics, but only to walk the gallows."

ICC Avoided Due To Inconsistencies

Despite being a State Party to the Rome Statute since 2010, the interim government did not take the case to the International Criminal Court, owing to inconsistencies in the case.
