Airtel Africa reports 24% profit jump

Mumbai: Airtel Africa said net profit jumped 24% year-on-year to $210 million in the quarter to December, largely on margin expansion. The company had reported a net profit of $169 million in the year-ago quarter. Revenue rose 33% on-year in reported currency terms to $1,685 million as compared with $1,268 million in the year-ago period."Disciplined execution on cost efficiency, alongside accelerating revenue growth, has enabled another sequential improvement in our quarterly EBITDA margin to 49.6%, underpinning constant currency EBITDA growth of 31%," Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar said, adding "we remain focussed on driving further incremental margin improvements".The company continued its $100 million share buyback programme, completing the first $45 million tranche in April 2025 and returning $36.2 million through 14.6 million shares purchased in the second tranche as of December 31, 2025. Company statements said revised arrangements now include irrevocable instructions to Barclays for autonomous execution during closed periods. Airtel Africa's net finance cost fell 7% year-on-year to $202 million in Q3."Higher profit after tax in the current period was driven by higher operating profit and derivative and foreign exchange gains of $99 million, as compared to $153 million derivative and foreign exchange losses in the prior period," the company said in a statement.

Fastest Street-Legal Car In Video Of Bengaluru Tycoon Who Died By Suicide

A property tycoon and chairman of a Bengaluru-headquartered real estate firm who died by suicide today owned the world's fastest road-legal car, the Bugatti Veyron.

Confident Group founder and chairman CJ Roy allegedly shot himself dead in Bengaluru while a tax raid was going on at his office.

The company, founded over 19 years ago, has projects in Bengaluru, Kerala, and Dubai.

Videos of the tycoon that went viral on social media indicated Roy enjoyed a flamboyant lifestyle and made a splash on social media. One such video showed him driving away in a blue Bugatti Veyron. It is the world's fastest car outside of the race track.

In the video, Roy was seen standing near the left door, while a woman was seen standing on the passenger side.

"... Take care friends, have a beautiful evening," he said before driving away.

The camera followed the car till it went out of sight. The next frame showed a spacious house with a manicured lawn. The name plate on the gate read: E64, Dr Roy CJ.

The video's date and the location are not known.

Bengaluru Police chief Seemanth Kumar Singh, who went to Roy's house in Bengaluru's Longford Road today, said a case has been filed.

"... Prima facie, it appears that industrialist CJ Roy has shot himself... Ballistic experts and other officials are investigating," Singh said.

The income tax team that raided Roy's Bengaluru office came from Kerala, the police chief said. The income tax officers who conducted the raids were also questioned by the police.

The police took the handgun allegedly used by Roy for forensics analysis. The income tax team had been working on the raid for the last two-three days, reports said.

Roy's family owns multiple business ventures, and he was facing several cases.

Roy was known for his accessibility and for sharing his success story with youngsters through public interactions and reality shows. He was also active on social media.

Scientists Cure Pancreatic Cancer In Mice Without Major Side Effects

In a potential breakthrough for pancreatic cancer treatment, scientists have found a way to wipe out tumours in laboratory mice. The study published in the journal PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) states that scientists managed to overcome the tumour in mice using a triple combination therapy, which also avoids the common problem of treatment resistance. Currently, drugs for pancreatic cancer lose effectiveness within months because the tumour becomes resistant.

"These studies open a path to designing new combination therapies that can improve survival for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma [the most common pancreatic cancer]. These results point the way for developing new clinical trials," the study authors stated.

Led by Mariano Barbacid, the head of the experimental oncology group at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), the scientists combined an experimental drug, already approved for lung cancer, with a protein degrader, resulting in tumours disappearing without significant side effects in three different animal models.

The Embassy of Spain in the UK took to social media to highlight the achievements of the scientists, adding that the breakthrough could make a difference in the fight against the disease.

"A team of scientists from the Spanish Cancer Research Centre, led by the renowned Dr Mariano Barbacid, has achieved the complete and permanent disappearance of pancreatic cancer in experimental models. This discovery could make a difference in the fight against this disease."

Although the result could be a milestone in the fight against cancer, the study authors took a cautious approach, adding that human clinical trials were not underway yet.

"Very Significant Progress": India Says US Trade Pact Nearing Closure

India and the United States have made "very significant progress" on their ongoing trade deal talks and are "very close" to a positive outcome, government sources have told NDTV, underscoring that work on the US track continued even as India closed the political landing zone on the India-EU free trade agreement.

Sources rejected the suggestion that the EU deal was driven by bargaining tactics vis-a-vis Washington. "There was not a single mention" of the US in the final-day restricted India-EU discussions, the sources said, arguing that the EU agreement was pursued on its own merits and timeline rather than as a reaction to parallel negotiations.

At the same time, the government signalled it is keeping "eyes on the ball" with the US, describing the American market as "as important, if not more important," and indicating that the two negotiating teams remained in touch throughout the EU endgame. "The trade negotiators were in touch with their US counterparts as well," one source said, adding that engagement is continuing and Delhi remains "hopeful of a positive outcome".

Sources framed India's trade strategy as a response to an increasingly fragmented global trading system. With the MFN-based WTO order "under stress", countries are increasingly prioritising bilateral and plurilateral arrangements with major partners, sources said. In that context, India's approach is to secure large-market access and predictability for exporters and investors through a network of deals rather than treating any one agreement as a substitute for another.

Sources emphasised that India does not view exports to the EU and the US as competing objectives. The government's preference, they said, is for exports to "grow both places" because that ultimately supports jobs and investment at home. Sources pointed to the EU's scale, described as the world's largest import market, and suggested India sees the EU agreement as a template for how it wants to approach major markets: front-loaded tariff advantages where possible, mechanisms to address non-tariff barriers, and a structure that can be reviewed and expanded over time.

While the sources did not disclose the precise architecture of the India-US deal under discussion, sources characterised negotiations as "robust" and ongoing, suggesting the remaining issues are narrow enough to allow a near-term conclusion. The key message was sequencing, not substitution: India will continue to pursue "multiple bilateral negotiations" in parallel and expects partners to do the same.

The government's public signalling is also aimed at industry. By arguing that the EU agreement is not a geopolitical "one-upmanship" move and that US talks are nearing fruition, Delhi is trying to reassure exporters and investors that trade policy is being shaped around commercial outcomes - market access, stable rules and supply-chain integration - rather than tactical signalling.

After Toppling Sheikh Hasina, Young Bangladeshis Turn Back To Old Guard

Dhaka University student Sadman Mujtaba Rafid defied his parents and police to join protests that toppled former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, convinced the rallies were essential to ensure democracy prevailed over dynastic rule.

But ahead of the February 12 parliamentary election – the first since the upheaval – some of Rafid's optimism has faded. 

"We dreamt of a country where all people, regardless of gender, race, religion would have equal opportunity," the 25-year-old said. "We expected policy changes and reforms, but it is far away from what we dreamt of."

Tens of thousands of young Bangladeshis, frustrated by years of repression and a lack of jobs and economic opportunity under Hasina's rule, poured into the streets in 2024, eager for radical change and a "New Bangladesh".

But while the elections will deliver a government without Hasina for the first time since 2008, there has been no major reform and no new viable alternative party has emerged, according to many, leaving the battle for government mostly between former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami.

Opinion polls put the established, but tarnished, parties as frontrunners.

Reuters spoke to more than 80 students under 30, mostly in the capital Dhaka. Most expressed excitement about voting in a freer election but were disappointed with the choice of candidates. 

'Old Guard Vs Student-Islamist Alliance'

Under 30s, popularly known as Gen-Z, drove the uprising and make up more than a quarter of Bangladesh's 128 million voters.

"They are politically active and will in all likelihood go to vote and affect the electoral outcome," said political analyst Asif Shahan, who teaches at Dhaka University.

Most were expected to back the newly-formed National Citizens Party (NCP), spearheaded by some of the uprising's leaders, but it has struggled for their support.

An alliance with the hardline Jamaat-e-Islami may have further undermined its appeal.

"They have lost the moral high ground," said Shudrul Amin, a 23-year-old archaeology student at Jahangirnagar University. "Voters who wanted a 'New Bangladesh' free from the baggage of the past now feel they are being forced to choose between the old guard and a student‑Islamist alliance."

Shama Debnath, a 24-year-old Hindu, said politics remained "trapped in an 'either this or that' framework" with no new vision or choices.

'Spirit Of Revolution Lost'

The interim government of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has also disappointed many in Gen-Z after it failed to rein in mob violence targeting journalists and minorities.

"After a year, I feel the spirit of the July revolution is completely lost," said Hema Chakma, a 23-year-old Buddhist student. "I am not saying the previous situation was good, but I feel the violence has increased a lot and the interim government is not taking any steps."

Interviews with young Bangladeshis also betrayed unhappiness with the economy, the spark for the revolt that led to Hasina's eventual exile in India.

NCP's spokesperson Asif Mahmud, 27, who rose to prominence during the protests and served in Yunus' government, said the party was constrained by being new and having mostly younger members. It also lacked resources, grassroots organisation and financial muscle, he added.

Mahmud stressed the alliance with Jamaat was strategic rather than ideological and there would be no move towards sharia law.

"We will work to fulfill expectations of the youth in the present and also in the future as promised," he said.

People Eager To Vote

Despite their misgivings, most Gen-Z Bangladeshis told Reuters they remained hopeful about the election itself, where 300 seats are being contested.

There will be a simultaneous referendum on reforms to state institutions, including term limits for prime ministers, stronger presidential powers and greater independence for the judiciary and election authorities.

Willingness to vote was as high as 97% among those aged 18 to 35,  with an almost even split between BNP and Jamaat, according to a recent poll by the Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center, a youth‑focused leadership platform.

"People are going to vote and that is enough," said 26-year-old student activist Umama Fatema, a key figure in the 2024 uprising, adding that only a democratically elected "stable government" could steer Bangladesh.

For some, that means the BNP.

"Given that the new students' party has shattered our hopes, I have decided to vote for BNP," said 25-year-old Maisha Maliha, saying she believed the country needed a strong, united political party with enough people on the ground.

Others say the Islamists should have a chance. "We have seen BNP before, so Jamaat seems like a new option," said 20-year-old Erisha Tabassum.

'Not Ready To Give Up'

Tasnim Jara, a doctor who returned from Britain to join the NCP but quit because of the Islamist alliance, is now contesting as an independent, determined to help foster what she calls a "genuinely new political culture".

The 31-year-old spent two frantic days going door-to-door to collect the 5,000 signatures required to validate her nomination.

"The July uprising created hope that people like us, who were never part of the old political guard, could finally enter politics and change how it is practised," said Jara.

"I do believe there is hope for a genuine political alternative in Bangladesh. But it will not emerge overnight," she said.

Such efforts still resonate with some young voters.

H.M. Amirul Karim, a 25-year-old English literature student, said: "I continue to dream that even if not now, the desire for a new political structure will become a reality. I am not ready to give up."

Pressure is mounting on India's opening batter, Sanju Samson, as a string of poor performances at the top of the order has sparked a debate regarding his future in the side. Samson was selected for India's T20I squad ahead of Shubman Gill when the BCCI selection committee announced the 15-man roster for the T20 World Cup, which begins on 7 February. With only two matches remaining against New Zealand before the World Cup campaign commences, former India batter Mohammad Kaif has urged the Gautam Gambhi-led team management not to abandon the wicket-keeper batter just yet.

"I am telling you, there might be discussions within the group or the camp along the lines of, 'He's not scoring, should we drop him?' All these things come to mind. But right now, you have to stand by him. Sanju Samson has scored three centuries; it is not as if he hasn't proven himself. "Look at Suryakumar Yadav. He was the captain and out of form, but he maintained confidence in his game. He always used to say, 'I am not out of form; I am playing well and finding the middle of the bat, I am just out of runs.' He said this because he had faith in his ability. He knew that if he could just get one or two innings under his belt, he would be back on track. No batter reaches the number one ICC ranking without such self-belief. He demonstrated his skill, and everyone praised him for the player he is. The team continued to give him chances even during his slump, and he eventually found his rhythm again. The same will happen with Sanju Samson, I am certain of it," Kaif added.

The Ishan Kishan Factor

With wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan capitalising on his international return, suggestions have been made for him to replace Samson at the top of the order, potentially moving Shreyas Iyer into the middle order. However, Kaif is not in favour of the idea. He wants Samson to be given at least two more matches.

"Even though Ishan Kishan is back and people are calling for him to replace Sanju, I believe we should give Samson at least two more matches before making a final decision. '1st Concern Is Investors': Top Court Warns Greater Noida Builder On Refunds

Days after a Supreme Court-appointed panel found that the Grand Venice project in Greater Noida is unfit for occupancy, extending the wait for buyers, who have already spent 15 years hoping to get possession, the top court came down hard on the builder, giving him a day to specify whether he could process refunds for those who want out. The court warned it would hear petitions seeking the cancellation of his bail if this was not done.

Hearing petitions related to the project on Tuesday, a bench led by Justice Sanjay Karol directed Satinder Singh Bhasin, the promoter of Bhasin Infotech and Infrastructure Private Limited (BIIPL), which is executing the Grand Venice Mall project, to file an affidavit stating whether he can repay the principal amount and interest to 121 allottees who now want refunds instead of possession of the shops they had paid for.

The bench asked Bhasin to submit the affidavit by Wednesday afternoon, stating that it would hear the matter again at 1 pm.

"Our first concern is for the gullible investors who have been stuck for several years," the bench emphasised.

The court also said it would give the promoter time to respond to proposed repair works at the project site and directed him to file a separate affidavit on this within a week.

The directions came after a committee appointed by the top court flagged that the commercial complex was unfit for occupancy and pointed to large-scale negligence by the developer.

'Done Nothing'

During the hearing, Justice N Kotiswar Singh, referring to the committee's report uploaded on the Supreme Court website last Friday, remarked, "It looks like you have done nothing. We would need videography to look further."

Justice Karol drew attention to portions of the report stating that the members of the inspection committee had to climb ten floors as lifts were not functional, and that the promoter had allegedly left the site while the inspection was underway.

"That is disturbing as it shows non-cooperation on his part," Justice Karol said.

Petitions On Bail

The Supreme Court had, on November 6, 2019, granted bail to Bhasin subject to a few conditions. Some aggrieved buyers, who are yet to get possession of shops in the Grand Venice commercial complex, have also sought the cancellation of his bail.

The bench warned Bhasin it would proceed to consider these applications.

"You should be ready to deposit money for refund, otherwise we are very serious," the court cautioned.

"We are mindful of your liberty and do not want to curtail it. But they (investors) are seeking curtailment of your liberty... We do not want these poor people to suffer. These gullible people are suffering. We are only saying let us begin with those who want money back," Justice Karol observed.

The court also flagged allegations by one allottee that his shop had been rented out by the promoter and that he was not receiving the rent.

Builder's Take

Appearing for Bhasin, senior advocate Shyam Divan told the bench that the promoter was willing to refund the principal amount, but there was a dispute over payment of interest.

Divan also assured the court that repair work at the premises would be completed under the committee's supervision within six to eight weeks and that Bhasin was committed to raising funds for the purpose.

However, he contested the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) report relied upon by the committee, calling it "false and incorrect", and said a detailed rebuttal would be placed before the court.

The CPWD report had flagged large-scale deviations from sanctioned plans at the Grand Venice commercial complex, noting that while approvals were granted for a 24-storey structure, the completion plan reflects only 14 floors, alongside major discrepancies in floor areas, layout changes, and the omission of a proposed sixth cinema screen.

It also found that essential services such as generators and transformers are inadequate, parking is shared across buildings, and basic amenities, including water supply, toilets and staircases, remain unfinished.

The CPWD report, attached with the Supreme Court panel report, warned that the structure has begun deteriorating, with facade stones and tiles falling and corrosion setting into reinforcements, concluding that the units are not fit even for partial handover as significant finishing work and core services remain pending.

The court-appointed committee, however, noted that the project is not beyond repair, adding that while the complex cannot be considered functional in its present state and suffers from serious quality concerns, its structural framework is intact and could be restored through a closely monitored technical and regulatory remediation plan.

These include blocking media and attachments from unknown senders, disabling link previews - the thumbnails that appear when a URL is entered into a chat - and silencing calls from unknown contacts. All three have been identified as potential vectors for surveillance and advanced hackers.

In a blog post, WhatsApp said that while all its users' conversations were protected by end-to-end encryption, "we also know that a few of our users - like journalists or public-facing figures - may need extreme safeguards against rare and highly sophisticated cyberattacks." 

Meta Platforms is the third major tech firm to offer a security boost for high-risk users.

In 2022, Apple launched "Lockdown Mode," which it describes as "an optional, extreme protection" designed for the "very few individuals" who might be targeted by advanced digital threats. Available on iPhone and macOS, the feature disables most message attachment types and link previews and includes restrictions on FaceTime calls and web browsing.

Last year, Alphabet's Android began offering "Advanced Protection Mode," for users with "heightened security awareness." 

Like "Lockdown Mode", Alphabet's more secure option trades some functionality for enhanced security, including restricting users from downloading potentially risky apps from outside its in-house Play Store.

A researcher who helps defend civil society figures from hacking said WhatsApp's announcement was "a very welcome development."

The feature will help protect dissidents and activists while encouraging other tech firms to up their game, said John Scott-Railton, who works at The Citizen Lab, a research group based out of the University of Toronto.

"My hope is that others follow suit," he said.

JSW Infra plans Rs 16,500-cr capex in FY27–28

Mumbai: JSW Infrastructure has outlined a ₹16,500-crore capital expenditure plan for FY27 and FY28.In an analyst call, India's second-largest port operator also said its operating Ebitda is expected to double by FY28 from FY26 levels as new port and logistics assets become operational.The JSW Group company said it is targeting consolidated operating revenue of ₹5,400 crore and operating Ebitda of ₹2,600 crore for FY26. "Building on this FY26 base, we anticipate Ebitda growth of approximately 15% in FY27 and expect it to double approximately by FY28," said Rinkesh Roy, joint managing director and chief executive officer of JSW Infrastructure.He clarified that the doubling is measured from FY26 levels.Roy said the guidance factors in the commissioning of port expansion projects and the transition of logistics investments from the capital expenditure phase to earnings contribution. FY28 will be a "landmark year in our expansion journey," he said in the earnings call after the third quarter results.The guidance comes even as the company moderated near-term cargo volume growth and deferred part of its FY26 capital spending. Roy said JSW Infrastructure is now targeting cargo volumes of around 123 million tonnes for the current year. "For the coming year, it could be in the range of 6% to 7%, and then on, we will have a massive ramp-up to 165 million to 175 million tonnes," he said, referring to FY28.For FY26, JSW Infrastructure now expects capex of ₹3,500 crore, including ₹2,000 crore for ports and ₹1,500 crore for logistics, lower than earlier guidance. Chief financial officer Nagarajan J said the reduction is due to timing of payments rather than a change in project scope. "The purchase orders have been raised. The payout has been deferred because we have gone for bank guarantees and letters of credit," he said, adding that payments have been pushed into the next two years.The heavier investment cycle is slated for FY27 and FY28, when the company plans to spend around ₹13,000 crore on ports and ₹3,500 crore on logistics.As of December 2025, JSW Infrastructure's net debt stood at ₹1,888 crore, with net debt-to-operating Ebitda at 0.76 times. Nagarajan said the balance sheet strength and rising cash flows position the company to scale up capacity to 400 million tonnes while expanding its logistics business.In the December quarter, the firm's net profit increased 9.1% to ₹359 crore, while revenue rose 14.2% to ₹1,349 crore. Ebitda grew 10.1% to ₹643 crore, though margins declined to 47.6% from 49.5% a year earlier.

"Aircraft Upside Down": 7 Dead After Jet Crashes In Snowstorm In US' Maine

The Federal Aviation Administration says seven people were killed and a crew member survived with serious injuries when a private business jet crashed in a snowstorm at Maine's Bangor International Airport.

The Bombardier Challenger 600 carrying eight people crashed on takeoff Sunday night as New England and much of the country grappled with a massive winter storm. The airport, about 200 miles north of Boston, shut down after the crash. Snowfall was heavy at the time, as it was in many other parts of the country.

The jet flipped over and caught fire as it tried to take off, according to federal authorities and air traffic controller recordings. It crashed on the airfield around 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating. The NTSB said preliminary information shows the plane crashed upon departure and experienced a post-crash fire, but that it would have no further statement until after investigators arrive in a day or two.

The NTSB said it has no role in the release of information about victims and that such information is handled by local authorities. But airport director Jose Saavedra refused to comment, saying at a news conference Monday that he was "awaiting guidance and support from federal partners."

An audio recording of air traffic controllers includes someone saying "Aircraft upside down. We have a passenger aircraft upside down," about 45 seconds after a plane was cleared for takeoff. First responders arrived less than a minute later, Saavedra said.

Bangor International Airport offers direct flights to cities like Orlando, Florida, Washington, D.C., and Charlotte, North Carolina, and is located about 200 miles (320 kilometers) north of Boston. It was closed shortly after the crash and will remain closed until at least noon Wednesday.

The crash happened as New England and much of the country grappled with a massive winter storm. Bangor had undergone steady snowfall Sunday, though planes were landing and departing around the time of the crash, Saavedra said.

"We have crews on site that respond to weather storms on a regular basis," he said. "This is normal for us to respond to weather events."

Throughout the weekend, the vast storm dumped sleet, freezing rain and snow across much of the eastern half of the U.S., halting much air and road traffic and knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses in the Southeast.

Commercial air traffic was also heavily disrupted around much of the U.S. Some 12,000 flights were canceled Sunday and nearly 20,000 were delayed, according to the flight tracker flightaware.com. Airports in Philadelphia, Washington, Baltimore, North Carolina, New York and New Jersey were among those impacted.

The Bombardier Challenger 600 is a wide-bodied business jet configured for nine to 11 passengers. It was launched in 1980 as the first private jet with a "walk-about cabin" and remains a popular charter option, according to aircharterservice.com.

Patna NEET Student's Autopsy Confirms Rape, Mentions Horrific Injuries

The post-mortem report of an 18-year-old NEET student who was murdered in a hostel in Bihar's Patna has confirmed rape. It also mentioned she suffered horrific injuries before she died.

Injury marks were found all over her body, and her death was not natural, the report said.

She suffered injuries in her private parts, the police said. Her body and neck had bruises, and marks indicative of being subjected to strong pressure, the autopsy report said.

Seeing the nature of the injuries, it is said the student fought back hard and resisted the attack in every possible way.

The postmortem report mentioned the cause of death as strangulation or suffocation, which supports the allegation that she was murdered.

The biggest evidence came from a forensics report which found sperm samples on her clothes. DNA testing has confirmed sexual assault. Semen and blood samples were also recovered from the room where her body was found. There were blood stains too. Her clothes were found torn.

The sample will be used to match the DNA of the accused, who has been arrested, as well as the suspects identified by a special investigation team.

The Bihar government swung into action after the forensics report came. Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary has spoken with the police chief and other senior officers and briefed them to arrest those behind the rape and murder of the student.

The government said it will ensure the police solve the case in no time.

Two police officers - Roshni Kumari and Hemant Jha - were suspended on Sunday after they were found guilty of delayed action and failure to collect intelligence in a timely manner.

Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has said the Bihar government is taking all measures to ensure justice in the case. Apart from the SIT, the CBI has taken over the case.

Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor has said his party would provide all legal support to the family members of the murdered student. She had been living in a girls' hostel in Patna's Chitragupt Nagar, preparing for the medical entrance exam. She died on January 11, after remaining in a coma for several days at a city hospital.

Her death led to massive protests in Patna, following which the police arrested the owner of the girls' hostel.

Banks seek talks on crop loan ECL norms

New Delhi: Banks want more deliberations on the expected credit loss (ECL) framework applicable to crop loans.Lenders have argued that the Stage 2 classification of crop loans should be linked to the crop season and pitched a classification similar to that of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans, which are linked to the agricultural crop cycle. "We have discussed this with other lenders, including private banks, and will make a representation to the Reserve Bank of India," said a bank executive aware of the developments. Under the proposed framework applicable from April 2027, a loan account will come under Stage 2 after it is 30-90 days past due.Banks had earlier argued that under existing norms, both SMA 1 and SMA 2 category assets require a 0.4% provision, but under the proposed ECL norms, they will be treated as Stage 2 assets, which require a lifetime probability of loss with a regulatory floor of 5%. "In the case of farm loans based on the crop cycle, there are frequent rollovers both backward and forward, therefore, this differential provision of 4.6% is quite steep and should be narrowed down," said another bank executive.127494220 In its draft norms the banking regulator has proposed that crop loan will be classified as non-performing or Stage 3 if it remains overdue for two crop seasons (rabi-rabi or kharif-kharif, as the case may be) in the case of short-duration crops and one crop season in the case of long-duration crops.Under the proposed norms, a financial instrument is said to be under Stage 2 when it has had a significant increase in credit risk (SICR) since initial recognition but is not considered to be 'credit impaired'. For such financial instruments, lifetime ECL will be recognised.Last year, in a research note, ratings agency ICRA had stated that banks, particularly those operating with thinner capital cushions and with higher overdue books, high sanctioned but undisbursed limits and high non-fund-based exposures, are likely to see more transitioning pain and would need to raise capital and/or avail the transition period till FY31 to phase out the impact on CET-1.It also noted that most of the impact will be visible in the Stage 2 segment, as currently these are classified as standard assets and carry lower provisions than the specified ECL floors. It estimated the impact of this to be in the range of 10 bps to 20 bps on the reported CET-1 ratio for the sector.

Trinamool, BJP Supporters Clash Near Kolkata, Makeshift Stage Set On Fire

Violent clashes broke out between Trinamool Congress and BJP supporters over putting up flags for a political programme in Sakher Bazar in Behala, roughly 11 km from Kolkata, on Sunday.

The workers and supporters of the BJP vandalised the local Trinamool councillor's office. A makeshift stage, where former Tripura chief minister and BJP election co-incharge Biplab Kumar Deb addressed a public meeting in the afternoon, was also allegedly set on fire during the clash. The BJP workers accused the Trinamool (TMC) supporters of setting the stage on fire.

Deb addressed a crowd during the 'Parivartan Sankalp Sabha' this afternoon. Soon after, TMC workers stormed the venue, vandalised the site and set the stage on fire after Deb left the venue. It is also being alleged that the BJP supporters were putting up flags in the area during the meeting. The BJP workers then allegedly vandalised the office of Trinamool councillor Sudip Polley.

Putting up a video of the clash, BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya posted on X handle, "Fearing an impending defeat, TMC goons have once again unleashed political terror on the streets of Kolkata. Moments after BJP election co-incharge and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb addressed voters at the Parivartan Sankalp Sabha in Behala Paschim, TMC workers stormed the venue, vandalised the site, and after his departure set the sabha stage on fire in the middle of a bustling market."

"TMC has reduced Bengal to a theatre of terror. Mamata Banerjee's goons are rampaging across the state, torching democracy in a desperate bid to cling to power," Malviya added.

Anupam Bhattacharya, BJP's South Kolkata District President, said, "Today we had a political meeting of Biplab Deb in Behala Paschim. Permission for which had already been taken two to three days before the programme. We wanted a peaceful meeting today. But since TMC prevented us from putting up party flags from the beginning. They intentionally provoked the violence today to disturb Biplab Deb's speech".

Upon receiving news of the clash between the workers of the two parties, Trinamool Congress MLAs Debasish Kumar and Ratna Chatterjee reached the spot and spoke with the Trinamool workers. Police have been deployed in the area.

TMC's Behala Purba MLA Ratna Chatterjee said, "I had come to attend a badminton tournament by our boys, and came to know that BJP supporters tried to disturb the game. The BJP does not know we have our leader, Mamata Banerjee,e with us. The more they attack us, the more we become stronger".

Rescue Team Left My Son To His Fate: Father Of Noida Techie Who Drowned

At 27, Yuvraj Mehta had a whole life ahead of him. This realisation is what added to the pain that his father, Rajkumar Mehta, has to live with, along with the knowledge that he will never see his son again.

Even the last glimpse of his bright son, a software engineer, gave him nothing less than true horror - a father saw his son trying to get out of a water-filled pit at a construction site in Uttar Pradesh's 'smart city' Noida, only to die with no help despite a long rescue window of two hours.

No parent should go through anything like this, the devastated father told NDTV.

Closure is uncertain for Rajkumar Mehta. He said his family will never get justice because his son is not coming back.

But if there is anything that he wants done in memory of his son, it is this: "We want the responsible people to face the harshest possible action and ensure that no other Yuvraj suffers such a tragedy in future."

Rajkumar Mehta said the negligent departments should not be spared.

"All those who were responsible for this tragedy should get appropriate punishment. My son was very brave. Even after falling into the water-filled pit, he struggled to get out and gave the rescue personnel a chance for two hours," Rajkumar Mehta said.

"But the rescue team showed only negligence and left my son to god's mercy," the father told NDTV.

He gave his regards to Moninder, a delivery rider who made the brave choice of tying a rope around his waist and going into the water in the pitch black night to look for Yuvraj. The delivery rider, who said he searched for at least half-an-hour, had also alleged that timely rescue would have definitely saved Yuvraj.

"I want to thank Moninder bhai for trying to save my son's life without caring about anything else," Rajkumar Mehta said.

He appealed to the UP government to ensure that all those who were responsible for his immense loss get punishment, and acknowledged the Yogi Adityanath government's decision to form a special investigation team.

The software engineer died in the early hours of January 17 after his car skidded in dense fog and plunged into the unbarricaded, water-filled pit in Noida Sector 150. The road, going over a large drain, turned a sharp 90-degree on his way home not far from the accident site.

Rajkumar Mehta had come there on getting a call from his son. Standing beside the police and fire department personnel, he could hear Yuvraj shout for help. He watched it all, helpless. Rajkumar Mehta said his son climbed to the roof of the partially submerged car and used his mobile phone's flashlight to signal his location in the thick fog.

Among the actions that followed after the software engineer's tragic end included the UP government removing the Noida Authority chief executive on January 19 and sacking a junior engineer.

So far three builders have been arrested and an investigation has begun against real estate developers MZ Wiztown and Lotus Greens. The case filed into the accident includes charges for murder and violation of environmental laws.

Jay Shah Planning Strict Action Against Bangladesh Over Withdrawal: Report

The International Cricket Council Chairman Jay Shah will contemplate strict action against Bangladesh if they do not agree to tour India for the upcoming Men's T20 World Cup 2026, ICC sources said on Friday. The sources said the ICC Chairman is in Dubai for the final call on the issue. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had earlier requested that the ICC shift their ICC T20 World Cup matches outside India to Sri Lanka, citing "security and safety concerns" for its players.

There has been some strain in India's ties with Bangladesh over rising incidents of crimes against minorities in the country. Last year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their Indian Premier League 2026 squad amid growing demands in India, following atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh.

It is after Mustafizur's removal from the IPL that BCB started expressing concerns about the safety and security of the Bangladesh contingent as the reason for not travelling to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

ICC on Wednesday rejected the BCB's request to move their matches out of India for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Independent risk assessments, carried out by internationally recognised security experts, do not conclude that Bangladesh cannot play its scheduled T20 World Cup matches in India, ICC sources said on Monday, noting that the overall security risk for the tournament in India has been assessed as low to moderate, which is consistent with the profile of many major global sporting events.

The sources said that the assessments did not identify any specific or direct threat to the Bangladesh team, team officials, or match venues in India.

They said based on the professional advice received, the risk associated with Bangladesh's scheduled fixtures in Kolkata and Mumbai is assessed as low to moderate, with no indication of risks that cannot be effectively managed through established security planning and mitigation measures.

The BCB President Aminul Islam said on Thursday that the BCB stands firm in its decision not to play its ICC Men's World Cup matches in India, following the ICC's rejection of its request.

"We will continue to communicate with the ICC. We want to play the World Cup, but we won't play in India. We will keep fighting. There were some shocking calls in the ICC Board Meeting. The Mustafizur issue is not an isolated single issue. They (India) were the sole decision makers in that issue," he said

"ICC had denied us our request to shift our matches away from India. We are not sure about the status of world cricket. Its popularity is going down. They have locked away 200 million people. Cricket is going to the Olympics, but if a country like us is not going there, it is ICC's failure," he added.

Bangladesh's Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul on Thursday said that the ICC failed to convince them on security concerns in India.

"ICC has failed to convince us on the security question. ICC has not taken any stand on our grievances. Even the Indian government did not communicate with us, or try to assuage our fears," Asif Nazrul said

As per the current schedule, Bangladesh are scheduled to kick off their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on February 7 against two-time champions West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The Litton Das-led side is then scheduled to face Italy on February 9 at the same venue before facing England in Kolkata again. After facing England, Bangladesh are scheduled to travel to Mumbai to play Nepal at Wankhede Stadium.

Actor Alleges Music Composer Palash Muchhal Cheated Him Of Rs 40 Lakh

A 34-year-old actor and producer has approached police in Maharashtra's Sangli district alleging that he was cheated by composer and filmmaker Palash Muchhal of Rs 40 lakh, police said on Thursday.

No First Information Report has been registered in the case so far.

Vidnyan Mane, a local resident, on Tuesday submitted an application seeking an FIR against Muchhal to the Sangli Superintendent of Police, an official said.

As per the complaint, Muchhal met Mane in Sangli on December 5, 2023. As Mane showed interest in investing in film production, Muchhal said he could invest in his upcoming project 'Nazaria' as a producer, the complainant claimed.

After the film was released on OTT platforms, Mane can earn a profit of Rs 12 lakh on an investment of Rs 25 lakh, Muchhal told him, and also offered him a role in the film, the complaint alleged.

The two met twice after that, and Mane allegedly gave a total of Rs 40 lakh to Muchhal as of March 2025.

The project, however, did not get completed, so Mane demanded his money back but allegedly got no response. He then approached Sangli police.

India seen growing 6.5–7% in FY27: ET-PwC survey

New Delhi: India is likely to clock real gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 6.5-7% in the coming fiscal, supported by the continuing growth momentum, though policymakers should remain mindful of the looming geopolitical risks and weak global demand, according to an ET-PwC survey.As per the survey, 78% of respondents expect India's growth to remain in the 6.5-7% band in FY27, reflecting optimism arising out of the current growth momentum, which the majority of CXOs described as strong to stable, while 21% expect it to be between 6% and 6.5%, and only 1% of the respondents foresee it in the 7-7.5% range.Official advance estimates project India's economy to grow 7.4% in FY26 compared with 6.5% in the last fiscal.127027656 More than half the corporate leaders saw geopolitical shocks as the biggest downside risk to FY27 growth outlook, followed by weak global demand, and almost a fifth pointed to trade uncertainties, according to the CXO study."CXOs are signalling strong momentum and expect around 7% real GDP growth next year. "What The Hell Happened": Trump Mocks Macron's Sunglasses In Davos Speech

US President Donald Trump mocked French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday for the aviator sunglasses he was wearing during his own speech at Davos the day before.

"I watched him yesterday, with those beautiful sunglasses. What the hell happened?" Trump said, speaking to global elites at the annual World Economic Forum in the Swiss mountain resort.

Macron's office has said the choice to wear the dark, reflective sunglasses during his speech, which took place indoors, was to protect his eyes because of a burst blood vessel.

Memes flourished across the internet after Macron's speech, some praising him for sporting a "Top Gun" look as he criticised Trump over Greenland, some criticising him.

During his speech on Tuesday, Macron described as "fundamentally unacceptable" Washington's threat to impose new tariffs, including on French wine and champagne, to bend Europe's resolve and allow it to buy Greenland.

Macron promised France will stand up to "bullies". 

On Wednesday, Trump harshly criticised Europe and its leaders. 

And, while ruling out the use of force in his bid to control Greenland, he made clear he wanted to own the Arctic island.

NATO leaders have warned that Trump's Greenland strategy could upend the alliance, while the leaders of Denmark and Greenland have offered a wide array of ways for a greater U.S. presence on the strategic island territory of 57,000 people.

Can Poll Body Exercise Its Powers Like "Unruly Horse?" Supreme Court On SIR

Hearing arguments on the legality of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the Supreme Court on Wednesday asked if the Election Commission of India enjoys "untrammelled powers" to deviate from its own rules and provisions of the Representation of the People (RP) Act for the preparation of electoral rolls.

The bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymala Bagchi posed several tough questions to Senior Advocate Rakesh Diwedi, appearing for the EC, and said that the court will have to examine whether the poll body can exercise its powers like an "unruly horse".

The Chief Justice observed that the manner of the conduct of the revision of electoral rolls must conform to the principles of natural justice - that is, it should be just and fair.

The petitioners, including several opposition parties and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), have time and again argued in court that the Election Commission is not following its own rules while carrying out the SIR exercise in states.

The Chief Justice took a strict stance. "Revision of voter list can lead to some civil consequences for a person who is on the list, so if something will affect the civil rights of people, why shouldn't the process followed be in accordance with sub-section 2?" he asked.

The top court was referring to Section 21(2) of the RP Act, which provides for the preparation and revision of electoral rolls in a prescribed manner by the Election Commission.

Stating that no power can be untrammelled, Justice Bagchi asked that even if the top court holds that the EC has the authority, can it be said that such a power is beyond judicial review?

“No power can be untrammelled, no power can be completely unregulated. While the power should not be diluted, but it should not be left an unruly horse. Rule 21 has a shackle of some sort. It says if intensive revision is being carried out, rules have to be prepared afresh and rules 4 to 13 shall apply," he said. 

'Procedure Prescribed'

The observations came as a response to arguments made by Dwivedi.

When the Court asked if ECI is exempted from following its rules, the senior advocate responded that the Election Commission cannot come up with a new SIR process every time, and the RP Act itself prescribes a procedure that they are following.

"Are sub-section (2) of Section 21 and sub-section (3) of Section 21 of the same nature, either in terms of inquiry or in terms of the preparatory stage of the law? My humble submission is that they are not. Unless otherwise directed, the revision contemplated is to be carried out strictly in the prescribed manner," Dwivedi argued.

"Section 21 operates in a completely different domain. It is regulated by a distinct set of procedures. These procedures necessarily include fairness, reasonableness, and due process. If your lordships see Section 21 read with Rule 25, the framework becomes clear. The statute itself prescribes the contours, including the five-year period... We are on ease of rights of voters, and we cannot violate Article 326," he submitted.

BCCI Official Reveals Reason Behind Kohli, Rohit's Central Contract 'Demotion'

The BCCI is set to streamline the players' central contracts by doing away with the A category introduced back in 2018. As per the existing policy, a cricketer in A category is paid Rs 7 crore annually, Rs 5 crore in A, Rs 3 crore in B and Rs 1 crore in C. In the yet to be announced retainers for 2025-26, players will only be bracketed in A, B and C category. Only four players -- Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja -- were placed in the highest A category in the previous cycle.

Out of four, only Jasprit Bumrah remains an all format player. Kohli and Rohit play only the ODI format while Jadeja remains part of the Test and ODI set up having retired from the shortest format.

No paycut for Bumrah and other A contract holders 

The central contracts will be ratified at the next Apex Council meeting. However, a BCCI official told PTI there would be no pay cut for someone like Bumrah who remains the leader of the pace attack in all formats despite missing games here and there due to workload management.

Shubman Gill, who leads India in Tests and ODIs, too will feature in the A category.

Considering that superstars Rohit and Kohli are one format players, they are likely to be placed in B category.

"This is being done to simplify the contract structure. There are not many players who are part of all formats. Someone like Bumrah, who remains one of the few all format players, will continue to be placed in the highest category and there would be no paycut," the official said.

With players in the A category likely to be paid Rs 7 crore, there could be a rejig in the payment structure in the B category.

Besides Bumrah, some of the other players who remain active in all formats include wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, all-rounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. Axar and Kuldeep were in B category in the previous cycle while Washington was in C.

The set to be removed A category was introduced in 2018 when the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators governed the BCCI.

Jadeja Sent Worrying Message By Ashwin After NZ Flop Show: "Not Easy"

Former Indian cricketer R Ashwin urged his long-time partner in spin, Ravindra Jadeja to experiment instead of just sticking to his strengths, acknowledging that these are challenging times for the legendary spin bowling all-rounder in ODIs, with Axar Patel ready to take his spot in case of a major slip. Jadeja's struggles after the Champions Trophy 2025 continued as he registered yet another poor outing with both bat and ball during the final ODI against New Zealand at Indore, conceding 41 runs in six overs while bowling without a wicket, and scoring a sluggish 12-ball 16.

Since the ICC Champions Trophy title win last year, Jadeja has endured a rough patch with just one wicket in six ODIs at an average of 298 and an economy rate of 6.2. With the bat, he has made 99 runs in five innings at an average of 24.75 with a best score of 32, but his strike rate has dipped to 88.39, which is not a great number for someone assigned a role of finishing things well for his team with a bat in hand.

Speaking during 'Ash ki Baat', Ashwin said, "See, it is a very challenging time for Jadeja. We all know that Axar Patel is right back on his heels. The fact is that Jadeja has done well in ODIs; he is also playing the Test format. But it is not easy for Jadeja because it is more about his batting. There are talks emerging about his low strike rate against spinners. This is way too early to talk on anybody's cricket or future," he added.

Ashwin said that Jadeja will be playing in the IPL, and the performances there could lead to a decision, but it is too early to judge Jadeja's performances.

"We have the T20 World Cup and the IPL after this. Remember that Jadeja will play the IPL. The performances there will lead to a decision. It is too early to make a decision on anybody," he said.

He also pointed out that Jadeja's strengths are so strong that they turn into his weaknesses as he refuses to "flirt with new things". He urged him to "experiment" more, noting that he has "nothing to lose" as a legend in the sport.

"Jadeja's strength sometimes turns into his weakness. I sometimes get jealous. The kind of ability he has skills in batting, bowling and fielding. But he does not do one thing? He never goes out of his strengths. He has never really flirted with new things," said Ashwin.

"He is a bona fide legend. He has nothing to lose, so I would like to see him experiment. I have seen him bowling carrom ball in the net practice, but he has never done so in a match. Would love to see him get a bit funky," he added.

Kerala Man Kills Self After Influencer Alleges Assault On Bus In Viral Video

A 42-year-old man in Kerala's Kozhikode has killed himself after an influencer posted a video on social media accusing him of sexually harassing her on a bus.

The man, Deepak U, was found hanging at his residence on Sunday morning. 

The police said that around 7 am, his parents knocked on his door to wake him up, but he did not respond. They then broke into his room with the help of neighbours and found him hanging.

Relatives said Deepak worked at a textile firm and had travelled to Kannur in connection with his work on Friday. On the same day, a woman travelling on the bus recorded a video alleging that he misbehaved with her.

The woman, an influencer, then uploaded the video on her social media account. The now-deleted clip showed both of them standing next to each other in the crowded bus.

The video went viral and received more than 20 lakh views and was also spotted by Deepak.

The family said Deepak, the only son of his parents, had not eaten for two days after the video went viral.

Deepak's parents said he was innocent and could not bear the public humiliation caused by the video.

His father said the family will submit a complaint to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking justice.

The influencer later deleted the video and then shared another explanatory clip defending her stance, which again was made private.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death and will record statements of relatives.

Activist Rahul Eashwar has also submitted a complaint to the Kerala Police, seeking a case for abetment to suicide against the woman.

Govinda's Nephew Reacts To Actor's Rift Rumours With Wife Sunita Ahuja

Govinda's nephew Vinay Anand has spoken out amid rumours suggesting that things are not well between the actor and his wife, Sunita Ahuja.

Speaking to IANS, Vinay said that he hopes everything remains fine between his uncle and aunt.

"I sincerely pray that my Mama and Mami's relationship always remains strong and private. That is my only wish," Vinay said.

He added, "After all, who would want a father not to support his son? If my aunt has expressed something, then I would gently tell my uncle to pay attention, because I would never speak wrongly about either of them."

Sunita Ahuja, in several interviews, has spoken about how Govinda, despite being a star, never helped their children with their careers in Bollywood. She has also expressed disappointment over this.

He further added, "Regarding Yashvardhan, he has a very bright future ahead. He is extremely talented, and my best wishes are always with him. He is like my son, I love him dearly, and I pray to God that he gets a good film."

Vinay also spoke about Govinda being hospitalised following an accidental shooting incident.

"I will pray to God that everything goes well for Govinda ji. He has been a Member of Parliament and is also associated with the Shiv Sena, so politics being a part of his life is nothing unusual. He is at that level, and naturally, there can be concerns at times," Vinay said.

Rumours about Sunita and Govinda heading for a split have been doing the rounds for quite a few months now. It has also been alleged that Govinda was involved in an extra-marital affair.

Earlier, Sunita addressed the rumours surrounding her husband's alleged affairs in her YouTube vlogs. She said that she had heard rumours about Govinda's affairs and added that she would be the first person to reveal it to the media if she ever caught him cheating.

She said, "Problem yeh ki iski family main log hai jo mujhe aur Govinda ko saath nahi dekhna chahte. Wo sochte hain inki family itni khush kyun hai kyunki unke khudh ke biwi bacche mar gaye hain. Govinda acche logo'n ke saath uthta bethta nahi hai (The problem is that there are people in his family who don't want to see Govinda and me together. They wonder why our family is so happy, especially since their own wives and children have passed away. Govinda doesn't mix with good people)".

"I See It Differently": Shankar Mahadevan On AR Rahman's 'Communal' Remark

The controversy began after AR Rahman, in a recent interview, spoke about a noticeable slowdown in work coming his way from the Hindi film industry. 

The Oscar-winning composer reflected on a power shift he has observed over the last eight years, suggesting that decision making today rests with people who are not necessarily driven by creativity. 

His remarks quickly snowballed into a larger debate, triggering strong reactions across the Indian film industry, with many weighing in on the changing ecosystem of Bollywood and the music business.

Reacting to Rahman's comments, Shankar Mahadevan offered a more nuanced perspective, urging people to look at the issue through a different lens. “See, I've always been saying this, I look at it differently,” Shankar told NDTV, adding, “The person who creates the music is one. The person who decides what's going to happen to this music is a totally another team. This is a musical team; this is a non-musical team. Trump Invites India To Be Part Of Gaza's "Board Of Peace", Say Sources

US President Donald Trump has invited India to be a part of what he called "Board of Peace" meant to oversee governance and reconstruction in postwar Gaza, sources told NDTV.

The White House had said there would be a main board, chaired by Trump himself, a Palestinian committee of technocrats meant to govern the war-wracked territory, and a second "executive board" that appears designed to have a more advisory role.

Pakistan said it has also got an invitation from Trump to join the Gaza "Board of Peace".

India is a country acceptable to both Israel and Palestine because of historic ties with both. India enjoys strategic partnership with Israel and has given regular humanitarian aid and help to Palestine.

India was among the first countries to send humanitarian aid to Gaza through Egypt after the recent conflict began.

Israel's envoy to India Reuven Azar in an exclusive interview to NDTV had also mentioned that Pakistan would be unacceptable to Israel for any role for the future of Gaza.

This board, formed on January 15 as part of Trump's 20-point peace plan for Gaza, is seen as a potential broader mechanism to address other global conflicts in the future.

Governments, however, reacted cautiously today to Trump's invitation to his "Board of Peace" initiative aimed at resolving conflicts globally, a plan that diplomats said could harm the work of the United Nations.

Only Hungary, whose leader is a close Trump ally, gave an unequivocal acceptance in response to the invitations, which have been addressed to some 60 nations and began arriving in European capitals on Saturday, according to diplomats.

Other governments appeared reluctant to make public statements, leaving officials to express concerns anonymously about the impact on the work of the UN, news agency Reuters reported.

The White House did not detail the responsibilities of each member of the board. It said more members will be announced over the coming weeks.

The separate 11-member "Gaza Executive Board" would include Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, UN Middle East peace coordinator Sigrid Kaag, United Arab Emirates International Cooperation Minister Reem Al-Hashimy, Israeli-Cypriot billionaire Yakir Gabay and officials from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the composition of this board had not been coordinated with Israel and contradicted its policy - possibly a reference to Fidan's presence, as Israel objects to Turkish involvement. Israel's government also has a tense relationship with Qatar.
