NEW DELHI: Dairy giant Amul has started offering retailer margins to housing societies and resident welfare associations (RWAs) where it is supplying essentials directly amidst the ongoing lockdown, with the societies turning key consumption channels. The margins to the housing societies range anywhere between 8-12%, and Amul is directly supplying bulk orders of milk, cheese, ice-cream to over 500 societies across 10 cities, the company said.“Since we began the exercise, there has been unprecedented interest from residential complexes across cities. The retailer margins are being passed on to the housing societies on various products,” Amul managing director RS Sodhi confirmed.“Societies also interested as they earn good retailer margins,” he said. Sodhi added that bulk orders per distributor for large housing societies have been averaging anywhere between ₹75,000-90,000 each day in cities with large footprints of red zones such as Mumbai and Pune.Others like biscuits maker Parle Products said some retailers have begun sharing part of their margins with RWAs in case orders are in bulk.
