Kolkata: India Inc is likely to see a gradual improvement in hiring sentiment in the next three months as economic recovery starts picking up pace, according to a ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook survey of 1,518 employers across the country. About 8% of the companies surveyed said they would hire more people in the January-March quarter, as per the results of the survey shared with ET. About 2% companies said they planned to slash headcount while 55% expected no change to their payrolls and 35% said they were unsure about the first quarter of 2021. This puts the net employment outlook – the difference between companies looking to hire and those expecting a fall in headcount – at +6%. Adjusting for seasonal variations, the net outlook is +5%, as compared to +3% in the October-December 2020 quarter. To gauge the impact of the pandemic, 810 employers were asked in October when they expected their companies to return to pre-Covid hiring levels. Nearly 65% employers reported that they might return to pre-Covid hiring within the next nine months, as compared to 44% in the previous quarter’s survey, indicating increased optimism and overall market recovery. Only 10% said they were unsure about returning to normalcy from the hiring perspective, compared to as much as 42% in the quarter to December.
