Lockdown has been 'amazing' for Gautam Singhania

It would be safe to assume that car and boat enthusiast Gautam Singhania might be craving the need for speed. But on the contrary, the CMD of the Raymond Group is happy to stay put at his home in Mumbai. “I think it [the lockdown] has been amazing, to be honest,” he says. But he’s making sure his vehicles are being taken care of. “My babies are my babies,” he says. And he is not letting the restrictions dampen his spirits. “Everything has a place in life. So, take a break for six months and then come back with a vengeance,” Singhania tells ETPanache in a video interview from his home office.Pack it inWhile business takes up a part of his day, Singhania needs just a few things while working from home: “A phone, a laptop, an iPad and you’re set,” he says. A stickler for making plans, Singhania doesn’t like idle time. “I think the most sensible way to get through the lockdown is to have a very packed schedule. When you have idle time, that’s when it gets to you,” he says. However, a home of fice can never be a substitute for the real thing, says Singhania. “Human interaction is very important,” he says, adding that the power of interaction often leads to better ideas and solutions. “I think a Zoom call is a 1D experience — it’s flat,” he says.Find your equilibriumWork, working out and family take up the major portions of Singhania’s day. And part of his living life to the fullest motto includes upping his fitness regimen. “I spend about two hours in the morning at the gym, and an hour of either cricket or swimming in the evening. Pre-lockdown, I would get around just an hour,” he says. Does he work out at home with wife Nawaz, a fitness trainer? “No, no — her workouts are very different from mine.” Singhania swears by a mixture of cardio, boxing, high intensity training and agility training. Singhania is also happy to finally get the time to play cricket, where he averages around 36-odd overs a day. “This is something I would not have got the chance to do earlier. I am playing cricket with a machine, which is a lot of fun,” he says.65680693
