Hyderabad: Medha Servo Drives, which designs and manufactures high-tech electronics for locomotives, is setting up a railway coach factory at Kondakal near Hyderabad in Telangana, involving an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.The facility, touted the country’s largest private-sector rail coach factory, provides employment opportunity to 2,200 persons in the region, said the Telangana government in a statement.As the largest propulsion equipment supplier to the Indian Railways, Medha Servo currently caters with its high-tech electronics to the locomotives, trainsets, coaches, railway stations and yards.Telangana industries minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the facility, which will have a capacity of manufacturing coaches, locomotives, intercity trainsets, metro trains, and monorail, among others. The installed production capacity is projected at 500 coaches (of various types) and 50 locomotives a year.The Telangana government’s proactive approach and conducive policies have encouraged Medha Group to come forward to set up the world-class rail coach factory in the state, claimed the minister Rao. The proposed rail coach factory of Medha is expected to create an ecosystem for rail coach manufacturing in Telangana, he said.Telangana already houses units that manufacture buses, tractors, parts of aircraft, and helicopters, said Rao at a meeting where the Medha group managing director Kasyap Reddy and several lawmakers and bureaucrats participated.
