Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people to make targets at personal, social and administrative levels to make the ‘Teeka Utsav’, a four-day nationwide Covid vaccination drive that began on Sunday, a success. In a message posted on the Narendra Modi App, the PM said the Utsav, launched on the birth anniversary of social activist Jyotiba Phule and to continue till April 14 (the birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar), “is the beginning of another major war against Corona”. He also emphasised on the importance of personal and social hygiene.“Each one, vaccinate one — that is help those who are less educated and elderly, who cannot go and get vaccinated themselves. Each one, treat one — that is help people who do not have the means or do not know about the facilities available for vaccination. Each one, save one — that is emphasis should be that I should wear a mask and in this way I save myself and save the lives of others also,” Modi said in his message to the nation. He said: “Family members and people of the society should create a ‘micro-containment zone’ wherever a Corona positive case has been reported.”The PM underlined the significance of micro-containment zones in a densely populated country like India. The Centre has indicated that lockdowns are not a solution and the way forward is containment zones and night curfews, both of which have to be decided by the local people and the administration.Modi said in the event of detection of a single positive case, it is important for those around to get tested. In his address to chief ministers last week, Modi had said that 30 people around one positive case should be tested. The PM also appealed to the society and the administration to make all efforts to vaccinate the eligible persons — all those above 45 years. He also dwelt on the need to prevent vaccine wastage, saying not a single dose should be lost and the aim should be “zero vaccine wastage”.“We have to move towards optimum utilisation of the country’s vaccination capacity. This is also a way to increase our capacity,” Modi said, adding that success will be determined by our awareness of the micro-containment zone, not leaving our homes unless needed, vaccinating the eligible and wearing masks and following Covid-appropriate behaviour.
