Yamal Floors Football World With Rabona, RB Leipzig Star Goes A Step Further

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo still mesmerise fans with their skills on the field but a younger generation has gradually taken over. As the UEFA Champions 2026-27 season began, there was no Messi or Ronaldo in sight but the likes of Michael Olise, Lamine Yamal, Erling Haaland, etc. have taken over the charge. When Lamine Yamal pulled off a flashy rabona dribble against Galatasaray, social media went wild. It was sleek, stylish, and perfect for a quick highlight clip. Yamal is undeniably a rare talent, playing with the freedom of someone kicking a ball around with friends in his hometown. However, while everyone was replaying Yamal's trick, something far more impressive happened in Germany that went largely unnoticed.

Playing for RB Leipzig against PSV Eindhoven, Brajan Gruda produced a moment of absolute brilliance. Cornered near the box, he slipped the ball cleanly through a defender's legs before instantly shifting it from one foot to the other, a flawless nutmeg straight into a la croqueta, gliding past a second defender to setup the opening goal. Yamal gave fans a fun moment for social media, but Gruda delivered a double skill that was arguably even tougher to pull off.

One of the reasons why Gruda's move didn't draw a similar applause from fans across the globe is probably the fact that it didn't produce a goal at the end. Yamal, on the other hand, set it up perfectly for Anthony Gordon to score Barcelona's third goal.

Who Is Brajan Gruda?

For those who do not follow German football closely, the 2004-born Gruda's impact might seem sudden, but his quality has been clear for a while now. Raised in Mainz's academy, he won a prestigious Fritz Walter Medal in 2023 as one of Germany's top young talents. After a brief move to Brighton, he joined Leipzig on loan and was given the number 10 shirt and the freedom to create. He is compact, quick on his feet, and exceptionally clever at opening up space with his very first touch.

Yamal naturally gets more attention because he plays for Barcelona. He fully deserves praise, but football is far more interesting when we look past the viral trends. Yamal gave us a highlight-reel trick, which should be lauded but Gruda also delivered a masterclass in skill, vision, and ruthless efficiency. It is time Gruda gets the recognition he truly deserves.
